Think I post a similar picture every year. My donkey Morgan (34) in his Silver Whinnys.

Every year the flies drive him nuts and make his legs bleed.

Not only do the sox keep the flies away they help heal up any wounds from bites. Due to me not getting them on quick enough.

Tape is just to help keep them in place because he will now wear these 24/7 for the rest of the summer.

News on the nose! Charlies didn't take long to heal which given what happened is impressive. We think his nose scars make him look like a big proud warhorse! His leg, that needs some work yet. One of our favorite preparations is a product called Wound Wonder for Proud Flesh. Again, prescription needed. Dr Erica Lacher turned us on to this amazing medication and she does not talk about anything that she has not tried and subsequently gained great results. http://www.woundwonder.com/ Kate DeQuatro knows the routine. It's seldom that proud flesh develops under the Silver Whinnys, but as you see, it can. When it does, call in your vet so you both can decide the tact to take. Dr Lacher, Springhill Equine, Newberry Florida, is our favorite "Wound Warrior". Seems her clinic sees too many of them! Remember, there aren't any nerve endings in Proud Flesh, also called Exuberant Tissue. Its granulation tissue that has gone crazy.(not a clinical term 😂 ) Your vet can remove it with very little pain or discomfort if that is the chosen strategy. It will be bloody so be ready for that but this is why the vets are called in to do it! Then back to the Silver Whinnys to bandage. Lets see how Charlie is doing next week. We should share some Proud Flesh stories with everyone. I don't believe Fb would be happy with some of the photos but they don't know that most horse owners have seen it all.

Mornings can be full of surprises for horse owners. Keep your cool, call in the vet and get the best bandaging. Who knew you could bandage a nose? We do. This isn't our first rodeo.

“After just 24 hours of wearing the Sox, the difference was very noticeable and after 48 hours the difference was remarkable. I just can't believe how good the Sox are. To say I am pleased is an understatement, they work on so many levels and I am genuinely gobsmacked 😃”

“Melody (Sheza German Melody) is my 20 year old quarter horse mare who I have been lucky enough to have in my life for the last 8 years. In all that time she has never been sick or lame and it came as a total shock a few weeks back when she came in from the field with a touch of mud fever, nothing serious but I opted to treat it with some gel I had been recommended just as a precaution ❤️

What followed was a cascade of worsening symptoms, soreness, skin irritation, lameness, bleeding, scabs, extensive swelling and an expensive vet call out and drugs/creams treatment (steroid drugs, antibiotics, steroid cream and antibiotic cream). She was not being fooled by any drugs in her feed and flat out refused to eat it, the steroid cream caused such a severe reaction I had to discontinue using it immediately and the antibiotic cream was tolerated for a couple of weeks before she started reacting to that too.

I stopped the creams and her sores improved some, so I turned her out in the daytime again and her legs flared up instantly like sunburn. I decided that it would be beneficial for her legs to be covered if she went out. My friend had lent me a pair of Silver Whinnys Sox to try and, if I am completely honest, I didn't really believe they would have much of an effect aside from stopping the UV a bit, and I knew I was going to have to put a fair chunk of preparation into getting her comfortable with ANY kind of boot/dressing/sock on her legs - 20 years of never having anything on them and being extremely sensitive and reactive when worried and about anything around her legs, would mean preparation was paramount.

So, that's what we did and after a week of preparation, she accepted and was totally happy about having the Sox put on (honestly, when I was given them I thought "there's no way on earth I'm going to be able to stretch these skinny things on easily!!!!" but I now have to admit that it was much easier and stress-free than I had anticipated) In fact she actually seemed to 'help' me with getting the Sox on.

I am so pleased my friend let me borrow her Sox, and then sold them to me. I have also bought a spare set of Sox so I always have some clean and ready.”
