Southern Canine Services, LLC We offer Professional Dog Training Services to southern Louisiana. Better dogs and better owners. Thank you for visiting Southern Canine Services’ business page.

My name is Jade Burdick and I am a certified professional dog trainer. My mission is to teach people how to effectively communicate with and understand dogs so owners can get the most out of their dogs. I have had a passion for animals, particularly dogs, my whole life so there is no wonder why I chose dog training as a career. I have experience with dogs of all breeds and animals of all species,

having owned and worked with them my entire life. I worked as a veterinary assistant for nine years at a mixed animal practice, was employed at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine as a student worker while attending college and I have worked at an equestrian facility in Baton Rouge as an instructor teaching horseback riding lessons to the public. In 2011 I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from LSU. I then went on to receive my certification as a Canine Trainer and Behavior Modification Professional, Service Dog Trainer, Search and Rescue Dog Trainer and Detection Dog Trainer from Highland Canine, where I stayed to intern for a couple of months. I gained experience handling, training and working with pet dogs, working dogs and service dogs. I am dedicated to enhancing the lives of dogs and their owners, whether they are a beloved pet or working companion. I understand what it takes for people and animals to work together as a team. I offer a variety of training services to dogs regardless of age, size, breed and discipline. I am willing to customize training programs to meet the needs of dogs and their owners/handlers to ensure results. I treat any dog as if they were my own and realize no two dogs are the same. I think dogs and people should continue to learn from one another and grow together. You can feel confident choosing me as your dog trainer with my qualifications, dedication and passion for dogs. If you have any questions or would like to get started with a free evaluation to choose a training program for you and your dog, don't hesitate to call. Here’s a little training session of Dot doing scent work. There’s 10 containers and one box has the odor in it. Her indication (sign to tell me when she’s found it) is to point with her nose and freeze.

Dot completed her first AKC Scentwork trial in Houston this past weekend and did a great job! It’s such a fun sport for dog and handler. Pretty much any dog with a nose can do it!

MYTH: little dogs don’t need as much exercise. Small breed dogs can be full of energy, therefore require daily exercise like large breed dogs.

Calling your dog off from chasing chickens is a pretty great feeling. Evie doing some obedience and coming when called even though she really wanted to chase the chickens. 🐓

Our brush up class was a success yesterday. We went on a pack walk, worked on stays with distractions, let the dogs climb on some fun stuff, worked on their recall and ended with a game! We are so proud of these owners and their dogs. They’ve kept up their training and it shows.

Dog socialization. A topic that often comes up from clients. It’s not practical to expect all dogs to get along. Do you like every person you meet? Dogs have different play styles and personalities so certain dogs don’t jive with others. These four dogs demonstrate great skills and they’re different breeds, sizes and ages. I would not do this with just any dog. I got to know each one and gradually added a dog to the pack. They are very respectful of each other and play well. Being reactive is not acceptable but being neutral is.

LOOSE LEASH. Something you hear often from trainers and it’s what clients want to be able to attain when walking their dogs. It’s such a necessary concept when walking your dog or when taking them out in public. Your dog should not walk you and most dogs do. It can lead to so many issues. This was one of the complaints from Charlie’s owners but we have fixed it. Keep a short leash but not tight or tense. Walk your dog, don’t let them walk you!

Lady is staying cool in this heat! You can still exercise your pets in the summer. Just make sure you have ways to cool them off or do it early in the morning or late in the evenings.
