Rural Animal Rescue Effort - RARE Non-profit organization helping animals in rural areas that have been abandoned, neglected or abused by finding them rescue, foster care and/or adopters.

Rural Animal Rescue Effort (RARE) is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit organization dedicated to helping find rescue, fosters and adopters for animals in rural shelters and pounds, both “no-kill” and “high-kill”. Although we are beginning our efforts in the west and middle region of Tennessee, we plan on growing our efforts to other areas and states as our organization and support for our cause grows. In th

e interim, we will focus on the shelters and pounds that we are currently helping and continue to network animals in need across the country via social platforms, including facebook, instagram pet adoption sites, etc. In addition to networking with other non-profit organizations, including rescues, RARE also looks for foster care and adopters for the animals in need and raises donations for veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccines, heartworm tests, heartworm preventative, and spays and neuters. For those who are not active in the animal rescue world, there are tens of thousands of companion animals, mainly dogs and cats, killed every single day across the United States. Although there are animals in need everywhere across the country, rural areas seem to have the worst cases of companion animal overpopulation and abandonment for a plethora of reasons. Almost all of the animals, that sit in rural shelters/pounds or are more commonly euthanized due to the lack of space, time and money it takes to care for them, are highly adoptable and friendly with children and other animals. We are asking that you help us give them their chance at the life they deserve. It takes time to accomplish change, but every stride in the right direction is worth taking. Balboa needs a foster!!! 💙

Balboa’s foster has to travel and had some unexpected work changes and needs him to move to another foster on Friday!

This sweet and affectionate boy thrives in the company of other dogs, enjoying fun play sessions that end with cozy nap time. He’s doing wonderfully with crate training and house training in his foster home, proving that he’s a quick learner and eager to please.

In addition to other dogs, he absolutely adores people. While he loves adults, he’s been a bit shy and timid around small children, so a foster home with older kids or adults might be the best fit for him.

He loves to go on walks, play, and take lots of naps - the perfect pup!

If you are able to help Balboa, please submit a foster application linked in our bio or at rarerescue.org/foster today!

New year, new Austin! ✨

One of Austin’s resolutions is to practice more yoga! Oh! And find his forever family!

His fosters say he is just such a sweet little angel. He’s very in tune with emotions and is a SUPER fast learner. He learned sit in one day and does it all the time now without being prompted because he is very food motivated and thinks sitting down means treats. He is so good at chilling and just hanging out and is learning to walk on a leash. He never misses a chance to cuddle and loves meeting new people. He gets along great with other dogs and it looks like he might be cat-friendly too! And he is currently in a foster with kids and loves them!

He currently weighs 36 lbs and needs to gain a few, but he will stay petite and we estimate he is around 2 years old! To learn more about Austin, head over to our website - rarerescue.org!

Our friends at CASA PAWS and CASA Transport just released this amazing children’s (and family) book helping children to learn about compassion and the do’s and don’t of dog guardianship. Cadence was a lovely, goofy “character” in life and was a treasured furbaby companion to my friend Laura. Even though she has crossed the rainbow bridge, her life carries on through this book written by Robin Plager Lapre to bring education and love to children and families.

If you have kids, or even if you don’t, you will want to get your copy asap! It’s also a perfect gift or stocking stuffer for the holidays!

We are so excited that rescues are embracing Doggie Do's and Don'ts as Told by Cadence the Dog. Here's what President and Founder of Rural Animal Rescue Effort - RARE Trisha Crowley had to say:

"I had the pleasure of knowing Cadence and considered myself to be her Aunt. She was larger than life with her huge personality and contagious smile. She is the perfect character to bring such important messages about companionship and pet guardianship.

This book is exactly what is needed for children of all ages, even adults! It is creatively written, easy to follow for any reading level and a great starter book for children just learning to read. The illustrations provide emotional connection and education to the reader.

I hope and pray that it will be in every school, library and home very soon!"

Thank you Trisha for that endorsement! We hope everyone will take a look and get a copy of Doggie Do's for the loved ones in your life!! Let's improve dogs' lives everywhere by Promoting Animal Welfare Stories!

Our monthly donation club is LIVE! We have different tiers that are related to a variety of needs, but even $5 dollars makes a huge difference in our day-to-day operations.

As our president said in her message last night, none of what we do is possible without you. Your monthly support means we can keep saying YES to the calls we get on a daily basis—yes to rescuing animals, yes to providing spay/neuter, and yes to creating futures full of love and hope for animals in desperate situations.

Jethro and Tanner are a father and son duo that were about to be dumped out on a rural back road by their “owner” a few nights ago. Luckily a community member brought them into her home and they are safe for the next few days, but she is unable to keep them past this Saturday.

We are hoping someone finds it in their heart to offer to foster these two boys so that we can accept them into our program.

Jethro (dad) is around 3 years old and approximately 5 lbs. Tanner is 2 years old and approximately 12 lbs. We do not know their history, but they are currently staying with 5 other dogs, 2 cats and a small child (Mom approves the use of his pictures in our post). They are total lap dogs, love to be cuddled with, and did great for their baths. They are so adorable together, but they would do fine separately if we are unable to keep them together. They can always be adopted together even if they aren’t fostered together.

If you are in Spring Hill, Columbia, Franklin, or Nashville area and able to foster:

• If you already are an approved Foster, text Trisha.

• If you have completed a Foster application but have not yet fostered, email [email protected]

• If you are not yet an approved foster, complete a Foster Application at rarerescue.org/foster

As we embark on a week of counting our blessings and giving thanks, we want to start the festivities by thanking one of our partners - ! This year, they have enabled us to save more dogs and take on more medically complex cases. 💙

Most recently, they have helped us get our sweet senior Cubs healthy! He needed a dental procedure, bloodwork, and a few tests, and 15/10 so graciously covered ALL his medical expenses! We are so incredibly grateful for them and are so thankful that through them we were able to give Cubs the medical care he needs to be his best self for when he meets his forever family!

Swipe through the pictures to see just a few of the pups they’ve helped us with this year! We can’t say “thank you” enough!
