Rural Animal Rescue Effort

Rural Animal Rescue Effort (RARE) is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Organization based in middle Tennessee with a mission to rescue neglected and abandoned animals in rural areas with extreme overpopulation of companion animals. kill” and “high-kill”. Although we are beginning our efforts in the west and middle region of Tennessee, we plan on growing our efforts to other areas and states as our organization and support for our cause grows. In the interim, we will focus on the shelters and pounds that we are currently helping and continue to network animals in need across the country via social platforms, including facebook, instagram pet adoption sites, etc. In addition to networking with other non-profit organizations, including rescues, RARE also looks for foster care and adopters for the animals in need and raises donations for veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccines, heartworm tests, heartworm preventative, and spays and neuters. For those who are not active in the animal rescue world, there are tens of thousands of companion animals, mainly dogs and cats, killed every single day across the United States. Although there are animals in need everywhere across the country, rural areas seem to have the worst cases of companion animal overpopulation and abandonment for a plethora of reasons. Almost all of the animals, that sit in rural shelters/pounds or are more commonly euthanized due to the lack of space, time and money it takes to care for them, are highly adoptable and friendly with children and other animals. It takes time to accomplish change, but every stride in the right direction is worth taking.

Meet SILVIE!

Silvie is a sweet silver Pittie girl who is ready to find her forever! She came to us sick and in bad shape. With some much-needed medical attention and lots of TLC, Silvie is now totally healthy and ready to embark on life!

Silvie is incredibly sweet and never meets a stranger. She is great with other dogs and loves to play. Her friendly and outgoing nature makes her an ideal adventure buddy and she is an expert in a kayak! She loves to get out and about with her foster and lives for a social event.

Not only is Silvie the perfect puppy on the inside, she’s cute as can be on the outside! Her infectious smile and beautiful silver coat make her the belle of the ball!

The time has come…

Our very first Furever Friends litter is ready for adoption! Their mama went to her forever home today, so now it’s their turn!

These sweet babies came from the rural shelter we’ve been working closely with in recent weeks. They arrived very sick, and due to prolonged and untreated infection, two of the kittens passed. Two others (Fig and Mango) suffered permanent blindness in one or both of their eyes. BUT! We are so thankful that we got to give them a second chance and we are so excited as they now get to find their forever families and live happily ever after!

Fig, Mango, and Tangelo are a dynamic trio. You would never know they came from such a tough beginning because these kittens are full of LIFE! They love people, cats, AND dogs and want nothing more than to be someone’s best friend. Fig is the spunky tortie girl of the litter. She is so incredibly loving, too. Mango is so very brave! He may be completely blind, but you would never know! He navigates just fine and loves to play with his siblings and climb their cat tree. Tangelo is the leader of the group and has the cutest zoomies!

Although their blindness is permanent, Fig and Mango are NOT in any pain! Our vets will be consulting on whether eye removal might be the best option for their comfort in the future. If that procedure is needed, we’ll work closely with their adopters and RARE will cover all costs—ensuring Fig and Mango have everything they need to thrive.

We are so thankful to their foster mom, . When we brought back the 20 cats a few weeks ago, we were able to bring back more sick ones because Abby said she would foster this little family. Sick animals are always the first facing euthanasia, so having a foster for these guys since they were now healthy helped us save more lives.

Our Vampire Diaries puppies still need fosters!

They are cute as can be and get along great with dogs, cats (probably), and kids! They are fully vetted for their age and promise to be the cutest house guests you’ll have all year!

We are unsure of their breed, but 4 of them are around 15 lbs and the other 3 are at 20 lbs.

As always, we provide ALL supplies - food, medical, accessories, etc. We just need to borrow your space!

Meet Raf!

This sweet boy and his siblings and mom were on a euthanasia list at a rural shelter hours from Nashville. A good Samaritan saw them and knew she had to act. She saved this tiny family and then reached out to us! We were able to find fosters for the puppies and got mom accepted into another rescue!

You’d never know Raf had such tough start because he is the spunkiest little firecracker with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging. He is incredibly friendly and outgoing and never meets a stranger - dog or human! He has the quintessential puppy dog eyes, so the odds are high that he’ll get away with asking for extra treats or getting extra cuddles. His favorite snack is celery and he does the best sploots. He also is a big fan of toys and has several emotional support stuffies.

Raf brings a spark to everything he does. He’s silly, sweet, and full of energy — the kind of pup who keeps life interesting and hearts full.
