Rural Animal Rescue Effort (RARE) is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Organization based in middle Tennessee with a mission to rescue neglected and abandoned animals in rural areas with extreme overpopulation of companion animals. Rural Animal Rescue Effort (RARE) is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit organization dedicated to helping find rescue, fosters and adopters for animals in rural shelters and pounds, both “no-

kill” and “high-kill”. Although we are beginning our efforts in the west and middle region of Tennessee, we plan on growing our efforts to other areas and states as our organization and support for our cause grows. In the interim, we will focus on the shelters and pounds that we are currently helping and continue to network animals in need across the country via social platforms, including facebook, instagram pet adoption sites, etc. In addition to networking with other non-profit organizations, including rescues, RARE also looks for foster care and adopters for the animals in need and raises donations for veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccines, heartworm tests, heartworm preventative, and spays and neuters. For those who are not active in the animal rescue world, there are tens of thousands of companion animals, mainly dogs and cats, killed every single day across the United States. Although there are animals in need everywhere across the country, rural areas seem to have the worst cases of companion animal overpopulation and abandonment for a plethora of reasons. Almost all of the animals, that sit in rural shelters/pounds or are more commonly euthanized due to the lack of space, time and money it takes to care for them, are highly adoptable and friendly with children and other animals. It takes time to accomplish change, but every stride in the right direction is worth taking.

🌞 It's the most wonderful time of the year! 🌞

Join us on Saturday, July 12th, from 12-4PM for Christmas in July! 🌴 There will be some local vendors, as well as food and drink specials in the 🍻🍔

We'll be there with some pups and are asking folks to pick-up some early holiday gifts for our RARE cats & dogs 🎁 Since we are living that we rely on the support of our amazing community to help us care for these special animals! 💙

Owen is officially available for adoption!! 🎉🎉💙

Owen is a young Beagle who was found as a stray in rural TN. He was going to be euthanized since the city doesn’t have an animal control, but an amazing foster stepped up and we were able to take him in! 

His fosters report he is the best boy - he gets along great with their resident dog and he absolutely adores their kids. He is both gentle and playful, making him a dynamic dog and great for families with children! He does good on a leash and is house and crate trained. Meet Grizzly – Your Pocket-Sized Shadow & Snuggle Buddy! 🐾

Grizzly is a precious, tiny 6-year-old Chihuahua who weighs just 6.5 lbs—but don’t let his small size fool you! This little guy has a big heart and is ready to share it with a forever family. Grizzly is a classic Chihuahua: loyal, loving, and sometimes a little possessive of his favorite person. Once he bonds with you, he’s your devoted shadow, happiest when cuddled under the covers on the couch or snuggled up in bed at night. He thrives on affection but is also perfectly content napping on the sofa while you’re away. He gets along great with other dogs and even cats, making him a wonderful companion. ADOPTION UPDATE: The ACOTAR Cane Corso Puppies

We shared this news in our newsletter, but also wanted to share it here - 8 out of 9 Cane Corso puppies have been adopted and are now in their forever homes! Their lives started out as a nightmare, but they’ve all found their ways to where they were meant to be. Each puppy is adored and treasured and we couldn’t be happier for them! Just thinking about their journey makes us so incredibly grateful for our community that empowers us to do what we do.

We have nine (9!) precious kittens in need of foster! They CAN be separated into groups of 2 or more!!!

Our rescue is working to help a member of the community who has found herself overwhelmed with over 30 cats. What started as just two unfixed cats quickly became an unmanageable situation — something that can happen so easily when spay/neuter isn’t accessible and why are our RARE Fix program is a vital part of our mission.

We’re stepping in to help, but we can’t do it alone. Right now, we’re trying to take in 9 kittens to give them the chance at a better life — but we need foster homes to make it happen.

By fostering, you’re not only saving these kittens — you’re also helping this person get back on track and giving her cats a better future. We are also working with her to get the adult cats spayed and neutered to prevent this from happening again.

📍 We provide supplies and support — you provide love and a safe space.
