Rural Animal Rescue Effort (RARE) is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Organization based in middle Tennessee with a mission to rescue neglected and abandoned animals in rural areas with extreme overpopulation of companion animals. Rural Animal Rescue Effort (RARE) is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit organization dedicated to helping find rescue, fosters and adopters for animals in rural shelters and pounds, both “no-

kill” and “high-kill”. Although we are beginning our efforts in the west and middle region of Tennessee, we plan on growing our efforts to other areas and states as our organization and support for our cause grows. In the interim, we will focus on the shelters and pounds that we are currently helping and continue to network animals in need across the country via social platforms, including facebook, instagram pet adoption sites, etc. In addition to networking with other non-profit organizations, including rescues, RARE also looks for foster care and adopters for the animals in need and raises donations for veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccines, heartworm tests, heartworm preventative, and spays and neuters. For those who are not active in the animal rescue world, there are tens of thousands of companion animals, mainly dogs and cats, killed every single day across the United States. Although there are animals in need everywhere across the country, rural areas seem to have the worst cases of companion animal overpopulation and abandonment for a plethora of reasons. Almost all of the animals, that sit in rural shelters/pounds or are more commonly euthanized due to the lack of space, time and money it takes to care for them, are highly adoptable and friendly with children and other animals. It takes time to accomplish change, but every stride in the right direction is worth taking.

We’re so excited for this amazing opportunity! We’re teaming up with jogging paws to help find our adoptable dogs their forever homes with a new event: Promenade for the Pups!

Join us for a community walk with a purpose at our Promenade for the Pups event.

🗓️Saturday, December 6th
⏰10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍Meet at Sevier Park Community Center, 3021 Leeland Dr., then promenade through 12th South

You can bring your own dog, but we strongly encourage you to come empty-handed so you can walk one of our rescue pups! Each dog will be dressed up, wearing a name tag and a QR code to help promote adoption or fostering. Swipe through the photos to get a preview of the dogs who will be joining us!

We’ll stop at White Bison Coffee 🦬 for pup cups, and walk past high foot traffic areas to get these sweet dogs as much visibility as possible.

Please take pics & videos and tag and to help spread the word! Social Media is such a strong tool and the more we post about these babes, the better chances they have of finding their forever homes.

Please RSVP on our Eventbrite page via the link in bio! We’d love to get a headcount of how many people plan on coming empty-handed so we can match each pup with a walker. If you plan on coming as a couple or group, please each attendee register for a free ticket. It will ask if you plan on coming hands-free so that we may pair you up with a rescue dog or if you plan on brining your dog, select “No” for the prompt, that way we can get an accurate count as to how many rescue dogs will have available walkers.

Let’s come together, have fun, and get these pups seen, loved, and into homes. We’re so thankful for and their heart for rescue pups! We can’t wait to see you there!

Okay… one more happy update before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming - we’ve just had some really amazing things happening over here!

Ali’s story is one of second chances. He was first adopted from us back in 2022 when he was a puppy. Last year, his family returned him to us because they were moving out of the country and couldn’t take him with them. We take our forever return policy very seriously, and so Ali came back to us.

Over the last 12 months, Ali had very little interest and nothing was ever the right fit. He’d waited for so long, he was going to be a Home for Christmas feature.

But then the best thing happened… Ali got adopted right when we started the campaign! He’s been in his forever home now for a month and his adoption has been finalized! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy. He is loved beyond measure and is living his very best life!

We know we share a lot about dogs in need and dogs who have been waiting a long time for their forever home, so we wanted to share some amazing news…

BOBA IS ADOPTED!

This sweet boy came from one of the worst pounds in Tennessee. A foster said “yes” to him and he and his brother Rocky got their freedom ride! Rocky was quickly adopted, but Boba didn’t have any interest for over 6 months (we honestly couldn’t believe it - he’s perfect!). He was as being fostered by the amazing when we got a very exciting app…

And it turned out to be Boba’s forever! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy and know that he is loved beyond words!

This is the face of 822 days in rescue.

822 days of waiting.
822 days of hoping.
822 days of showing up every single day with a wagging tail and a heart that never gives up. 💙

Meet Balzey, the black Lab mix who has been with us longer than any other dog in our program—not because he’s difficult, not because he’s broken, but because somehow the right person just hasn’t seen him yet.

And that’s hard to believe, because Balzey is one of the best dogs we’ve ever met.

He’s 4 years old, the perfect age — past the puppy chaos but still full of life.
He’s 55 pounds of pure devotion and joy.
He’s crate trained, house trained, and wonderful on a leash.
He loves a good walk, a good cuddle, and any game involving a ball.
He adores people deeply — he’s a “people dog” through and through.
He’s playful, smart, affectionate, and not afraid to put on a costume if it means making his humans smile.

822 days is far too long for a dog this incredible to wait. This Christmas, we’re hoping it’s finally his turn to go home — to the yard he can run in, the humans he can love, and the life he has deserved for so long.

💙 Apply to adopt Balzey at rarerescue.org

Our Home for Christmas feature for the week, Balzey, had a Doggy Daycation this weekend! He participated in the x Doggy Daycation collab and gave him the time of his life and made a little vlog about their day together!

Balzey is such an amazing dog and is very special to us. He’s 4 years old, 55 lbs, and a Lab mix. He’s incredibly playful and affectionate and loves to play with his ball. He’s great on a leash, crate trained, house trained, and just the right balance of adventurous and homebody.

He loves people so much and has a big heart and it breaks our heart that he’s been waiting 800+ days for his forever home.

Will you help us share his story and help us get him home for Christmas?

Our pups had THE BEST time today at the x Doggy Daycation collab! We will be sharing more about this, but just wanted to say that our dogs loved getting a day out and felt so very loved by all the incredible volunteers who took them out for a “normal” day.

Thank you so, so much to for reaching out to us and getting us involved in this incredible opportunity!

We can’t wait to show you all the JOY on our pups’ faces!
