Hi everyone
I just wanted to put a post on because today, although minor in many ways to some it wasn't minor to me or more importantly our dog and his training/ socialising

So today we went for a lovely frosty walk in south cave, drewton estate, the Yorkshire wolds walk (it was lovely can recommend)
It was just over 7k and we'd had a lovely time.
We saw around 20 other walkers, maybe 10 other dogs all was fine.

We were on the last 2-3 minutes of the walk, I literally had my van in sight and 2 off lead red labradors appeared. The owner was not in sight to start but appeared within a few minutes.
The dogs approached. The man gave no recall or attempt to call the dogs. We have our dog *our dog. Male, great dane, 2 year old, intact, extremely well socialised, on lead*
My husband pulls him (our dog) to the side and I stand in front of him, keeping his head under control.
1 labrador walks passed (both still off lead)
The other quickly approachs his back end and sniffs, hackles up, I attempt to stand in between and try and give instructions for the dog to leave however he then appoachs my dogs face and beings to snarl, growl, jump and physically go for my dog.

While all this is happening the owner is not doing anything to get his dogs, I shouted at him to please get his dogs and he shouted there names but they took zero notice not one of them acknowledged him.

I had to stand in between, grab my dogs head collar and keep my 10 stone dog under control. The guy did literally nothing but walk on and eventually the dogs followed.

I shouted at him, asking him to take some responsibility for his dogs but he said not one word to me.

What had been a lovely walk then ended with a really negative impact. I know my dog will now be on guard with other dogs when they approach and my dog being the biggest will always be the one judged.

If youre out walking your dog, no matter how friendly you think it is, put it on lead. Any strange dog can be a threat.

I will now have to spend alot of time walking around strange dogs to get my dog to not assume everyone is wanting to attack. No matter what size your dog is, it shouldn't be off lead around strange dogs. If my dog had harmed those dogs we know who would be blamed.

Just because you think yours is friendly is doesnt mean a thing!

Every other dog owner we met had put their dogs on lead.

Please do the right thing.

Field access is by appointment/ booking only. Do not enter the field if other people are in the field. Do not enter the field without a booking.

Please clean up after your dog and do a check before you leave that there is no dog mess or toys in the field.
Please make sure all equipment is put back after use for the next field user.

Do not allow your dog to jump up at the windows in the shed as it is glass and they will break.

The field is very busy at the moment. So please book in advance so you don't miss out
