Hollyhock Farm is a holistic horse boarding & training facility! Here we focus on holistic living across the board - from ourselves to our animals!

Hollyhock Farm focuses on keeping our horses as close to their natural environment as they can get in domesticity. Our horses are turned out 24/7 in a wide variety of footings with run-in sheds. We offer the same type of turnout for our boarders! Each boarder rents a run-in/storage combo with individual turnout & grass. Run-in combos are either 12x12 with 12x12 storage, or 12x20 with 12x12 storage

. HHF has access to miles of trails! We have a few main focuses here at Hollyhock Farm!

1) To train horses with their owners. We believe that the owner should be 100% involved with the training of their horse. We use least resistance training with all of our horses, and our client's horses. We believe in creating a partnership between owner and horse - a true friendship. Our goals are your goals - we will work towards any type of goal you have, whether it be long term or short.

2) To showcase the American Mustang. We truly believe this is the breed of all breeds! Hardy, versatile, trusting, loving, and committed. We wish to help people adopt these amazing horses, whether it be from the BLM or a local rescue. We will be incorporating mustangs into our programs much more in the future!

3) To teach others about innovative and alternative methods to horse-keeping and training. The horse world is ever-changing, and it is time for all of us to change along with it. Natural horsemanship is becoming the primary training method for starting horses, and classical dressage is becoming the focal point for all disciplines. Horse men and women are beginning to use essential oils, herbs, and natural methods for healing and overall health. We are starting to put our horses back in their 'natural' habitat - or as close as we can get with domestication. We practice all of these things at HHF - we are a holistic facility. We use homeopathy, essential oils, herbs, and other natural methods in our medical practices. We focus on utmost natural horsemanship and least resistance training, specifically using clicker training. Once horses are trained to ride, we focus on classical dressage theories for optimum performance and proper fitness.

Here are some interesting facts about the dandelion flower:

The dandelion is the only flower that represents the 3 celestial bodies of the sun, moon and stars. ☀️ 🌙 ⭐️. The yellow flower resembles the sun, the puff ball resembles the moon and the dispersing seeds resemble the stars.

The dandelion flower opens to greet the morning and closes in the evening to go to sleep. 😴

Every part of the dandelion is useful: root, leaves, flower. It can be used for food, medicine and dye for coloring.

Up until the 1800s people would pull grass out of their lawns to make room for dandelions and other useful “weeds” like chickweed, malva, and chamomile.

The name dandelion is taken from the French word “dent de lion” meaning lion’s tooth, referring to the coarsely-toothed leaves. 🦁

Dandelions have one of the longest flowering seasons of any plant.

Dandelion seeds are often transported away by a gust of wind and they travel like tiny parachutes. Seeds are often carried as many as 5 miles from their origin!

Animals such as birds, insects and butterflies consume nectar or seed of dandelion.🐦 🐛 🐜 🦋 🐝.

Dandelion flowers do not need to be pollinated to form seed.

Dandelion can be used in the production of wine and root beer. Root of dandelion can be used as a substitute for coffee. 🍷 🍺

Dandelions have sunk their roots deep into history. They were well known to ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, and have been used in Chinese traditional medicine for over a thousand years.

Dandelion is used in folk medicine to treat infections and liver disorders. Tea made of dandelion act as diuretic.

If you mow dandelions, they’ll grow shorter stalks to spite you.

Dandelions are, quite possibly, the most successful plants that exist, masters of survival worldwide. 💪

A not so fun fact: Every year countries spend millions on lawn pesticides to have uniform lawns of non-native grasses, and we use 30% of the country’s water supply to keep them green.

Fiona would love to share her Doc & Phoebe's Feeder she got for Christmas! We can fill it with as much or as little food as we want (although she would always like the most possible), and hide them around the house for them to be “hunted” and eaten! Kitties do best with smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. These feeders allow for that plus play time 🐱
