Pupdate 🧡 Amelia (now Luna), Madras, Oregon, 2024. Amelia was one of the 50 dogs we took in this past June from a shelter in Madras, OR that closed down. From what we know about her background, her and her siblings had been living at the shelter since they were puppies - and when they arrived at Street Dog Hero, they were 1.5 years old (last video is from the day she arrived). Shelter life was all they had ever known 😢. But today, Amelia (now Luna) has been adopted by her foster family and they are over the moon in love with her 🥰 Here is her pupdate:

“Luna (nee Amelia) has been such an amazing addition to our family. She came into our lives when we decided to be a foster family for Street Dog Hero after becoming aware of the Madras Shelter Closue earlier in 2024. We came to an event at Street Dog Hero and met several dogs. There was a momma dog with and her pups from the Madras shelter. One dog in particular came to us as she was being walked around prospective foster/adoptive families. We knew immediately she was our foster.

Fast-forward about 6 weeks and Luna had become so well integrated to our family and especially our hearts, that we decided to adopt her and give her the forever home she so deserved. She is a wonderful dog that so sweet and loving. Her new-found joys include playing the lake or anywhere around water, rolling on grassy lawns, and especially runnning. She really loves to run.

She is now well-known in our neighborhood and has made a number of human and canine friends, having daily walk play-dates. Thank you Street Dog Hero for joy you have brought into our lives and most importantly, Luna’s life. We wish the same for her siblings and the other wonderful dogs hoping for their own forever homes.” - Luna’s dad, Rob.

$5 Friday 💔 We have some sad news to share with you guys. 2 of the bottle puppies that were surrendered to us from Madras, Louie and Turtle, have crossed over the rainbow bridge 🌈

Rest easy, little ones 🐾

We are absolutely gutted that these babies didn’t make it. We had dreams of them both living it up in their adoptive homes, snuggled up in warm blankets and surrounded by people who love them, but sadly, that just wasn’t their plan. But there is comfort in knowing that they at least knew what love was and that they are now together, playing in doggie heaven. They were just too good for this world 😔

Louie sadly passed from a parasite called coccidia. His immune system was just too weak and he couldn’t fight the infection. And Turtle unfortunately was born with cerebellar abiotrophy, which is a neurological disease where the neurons in the brain begin to die off. Her foster family and our medical team did everything they could and even built her a makeshift wheelchair, but sadly, her condition took a turn for the worst and we had to say goodbye.

Thank you to their incredible fosters, Bella and Becky, for taking such great care of them and for giving them all of the love in the world ♥️ Although this wasn’t the ending we envisioned for them, we will do everything we can to keep fighting for the underdogs and promise to save even more babies like them. Please consider donating today, if you can. Just put “Turtle and Louie” in the notes:

🎃 Happy Halloween from the cutest little pumpkins on the block - Dumpling, Chunk, Comet, Badger, Luna and Jett!! It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 6 weeks since we first took in this litter after they were surrendered from a home in Madras, Oregon when they were only 3 days old.

We don’t know what breed they are mixed with but we were told the mom was about 30 lbs. Dumpling, Chunk, Comet, Badger, Luna and Jett are very well socialized with other dogs and they have also been around lots of kids and people since they were very young.

We are now accepting applications for them on our website if you’d like to apply at streetdoghero.org!

Thank you to their fosters, who’ve bottle fed them, socialized them, and have taken such great care of them from the time they were teeny tiny. Puppies this small are a lot of work and these pups are lucky to have fosters who have set them up to have the very best lives 🧡

Look who’s back!! Curly’s adopter backed out because he was a little too rough with their little kids. So he’s now back on the market and is officially available for adoption (ideally, in a home with older kids and adults). And judging by his doodle appearance and super sweet personality, we don’t think he’s going to last long before the applications start rolling in!

Interested in meeting 1 year old Curly? Get your application in at streetdoghero.org! We process applications on a first come, first served basis so don’t wait if you’re thinking of taking this cutie home 😊🏡

P.S. fun fact about Curly: he almost didn’t even make it out of the shelter in Oklahoma because he started to develop kennel aggression after spending time in a stressful shelter environment. The shelter sent us a video of him looking extra scary in his kennel (last video 🫣) and they asked if we still wanted to take him. They also gave a side note that they really hoped we would because if not, he would’ve had to be euthanized due to this behavior 😔

Obviously, that’s not where Curly’s story ended though and he’s now safe and sound with his foster here in Bend but this is the sort of thing that’s happening at shelters all across the country. Shelters are having to make very hard decisions based on space and lack of resources, which is why Curly almost didn’t make the cut. This is just another perfect example of why rescue dogs need to be given a chance out of the shelter for them to truly SHINE☀️

Please give rescue dogs a chance!

Delia came to the shelter in California as a stray, along with her 5 young puppies. They were then driven up to Oregon so that this little family didn’t have to spend their days in an overcrowded shelter. Once Delia arrived though, it was clear that she hadn’t been socialized around people much in her life and she was capital T terrified when she first got off of the rescue bus 😢

Fast forward to today though, and Delia has been making HUGE strides in her foster home!! She’s even starting to show her playful side and does zoomies around the house and plays with her favorite stuffed octopus toy 🐙. She also now wags her tails when she sees people and other dogs - which may not sound like much but it’s actually a huge improvement as she used to hide under anything she could find in order to avoid eye contact.

All Delia needed was a little time and patience in a home for her true personality to come out 🧡 Here’s what her foster, Aimee, has to say about her:

“She walks perfectly on leash and is so good at listening when we’re outside. She has started playing with toys and doing short zoomies, but she chills out and sleeps nearby while I’m working. She asks for pets and cuddles and has been so sweet to everyone we’ve introduced her to. She also did great at her first BBQ at our friend’s house with new dogs and people. Overall she’s a quiet, chill dog that loves affection and is incredibly easy.”

Sound like a perfect match? Adopt 2 year old Delia today by filling out an application at streetdoghero.org!

Meet Liam and Nino - 2 brothers who were saved from a high-risk shelter in Central California.

At just 12 weeks old, they’ve already spent 3 weeks of their short lives stuck in a kennel in isolation after they (along with their siblings) tested positive for parvovirus, which they got from the shelter in California.

But today, these brothers have tested negative for Parvo and they are both happy, healthy and are ready to find their forever homes!

Here’s a little more about them from their foster, .kidd:

💙 Liam: “Liam is a sweet, loving puppy who’s done well with dogs of all sizes and ages and is respectful of their queues. He likes all people and has done well with women, men and loved the kids he’s met. He is a happy, silly, social puppy who is willing to try anything and would be the ultimate best friend/ adventure buddy for a lucky family or person!”

💚 Nino: “Nino is one of the sweetest puppies! Nothing makes him happier than playing until he’s tired and then finding a lap to nap in. He curls right up and will stay there being snuggled for as long as you let him. He’s great with his foster siblings and respects their space and boundaries. He just loves love and is happy to do whatever his people are doing. He’ll be an amazing addition to any lucky family!”

You can find more info on Liam and Nino on our website at streetdoghero.org under the Adoptable Dogs tab and you can apply to adopt there as well!😊

⛅️ Good morning from Carol 💖 Carol came to us from a shelter in Central California this past September. When she got off the rescue bus we noticed she was a little wobbly on her front leg when she walked, so we took her in to our vet. We learned that Carol has something neurological going on, likely from abuse or a past injury that never properly healed.

Although she may not be a long distance marathon runner, Carol is as happy as a clam just going for jaunts around the block or short hikes with her little boot on 🥾 (which is honestly the cutest thing ever 😊). She has the biggest heart and absolutely loves to be with her people. She’s quiet, easy-going, and gets along with just about everyone and everything.

Carol is also great with other dogs, she’s an A+ cudddle monkey, and her favorite things include: going for car rides, doing zoomies and finding sunny spots for a nap ☀️. She would be the perfect companion for a low-energy home and someone who wants a dog to curl up on the couch with and read a book with 📚

Want to set up a meet and greet with 5 year old Carol? Apply to adopt her today at streetdoghero.org and make it official! Or if you’re not looking to adopt right now, please SHARE this post to help get the word out! We know her forever family is out there, waiting to find her!

From hospice to HOME!! 🏡❤️ 14 year old Gertie stole our hearts when she arrived in Oregon from a high-risk shelter in California after she was found wandering in a parking lot in Central California with all of her paw pads burned off from the heat.

The shelter told us that she had some health issues but we couldn’t stand for this sweet senior to spend her days in a kennel. So she hitched a ride to Bend, where once she was in a foster home, she blossomed into a happy and spirited lady who proved that she had a lot more life to live.

One lucky family fell in love with Gertie and her story and wanted to give her the best golden years she could dream of, and it couldn’t be a more perfect fit 🥰 Gertie now spends her days being carried from room to room by her new dad AND she gets to hang out with her 2 canine siblings (who are also rescue Chihuahuas).

Thank you to her family for choosing to adopt and for giving Gertie her happily ever after! And thank you to everyone for rooting her on throughout her journey 💖

Did we mention we have a TON of dogs at the office right now looking for fosters? Can you give any of them a place to stay?

Fostering is the perfect way to help a rescue dog because it gets them out of a kennel and into a home where they can better adapt to life in a home. This then sets them up for success with their forever families!

Ideally, we are looking for fosters that can commit to 2-3 weeks (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer, depending on the dog). But any amount of time out of a kennel is better than nothing.

Please help us find them temporary homes in Bend or Portland! Apply to become a foster today at streetdoghero.org. Or if you are already an approved foster, please email [email protected].

In order by photo we have:
✨Benny - 1 year old, male, Shepherd mix
✨Worm - 2 years old, male, shepherd mix
✨Puffin - 2 years old, female, terrier mix
✨Brownie - 2 years old, male, Chihuahua mix
✨Avery - 4 months old, female, Shepherd mix
✨Truffle - 4 months old, female, Shepherd mix
✨Alice - 2 years old, female, Pitbull mix
✨Chip - 1.5 year old, female, pug mix
✨Precious - 1.5 year old, female, pug mix

28/10/2024

Dogs were not meant to live isolated in kennels for 23 hours a day. They were not meant to live in a loud and stressful shelter environment, surrounded by hundreds of barking dogs for days, months, or years on end. That is no way for any dog to live.

The worst part is, many dogs that are at risk in our shelters, likely entered the shelter as a well-rounded dog. But combined with the stress of a shelter and their confusion as to why they are there, they can develop bad habits that can put them at risk - such as jumping, barking, fear, etc.

That is why we planned a large transport with our rescue partners, Dog Is My CoPilot, Inc. and Norman Animal Welfare in Oklahoma last week, to bring in 33 shelter dogs and cats to Oregon, where they have a better chance at getting adopted and are able to live in foster homes.

How to help shelter dogs: Adopt, Foster, Volunteer, Donate, Share!!

No matter how big or how small, every little bit helps. ♥️ streetdoghero.org

Pupdate 🧡 Oreo, Washington, 2024. Oreo came to us this past spring as part of a horrible backyard breeding situation where he was living tied to a short chain and was covered in matted hair. There was no room for him to walk around or even go to the bathroom so poor guy was living on top of his own f***s. Luckily, he was rescued by 3 brave women who took 6 dogs from the home in exchange for cleaning the owners house (last two photos are from the day he arrived with his rescuers 🥹). That is where Oreo got his fresh start at Street Dog Hero and his foster, Pat, ended up adopting him! 🥰 Here is his pupdate:

“Oreo, now known as Walter, was one of the Seattle Six. Surprisingly, before I became a foster failure and adopted him, he was a cuddly, loving guy, but frequently shy and fearful. He has completely come out of his shell and is now confident, cuddly and loving.

Gone are the days of fear and shyness. He is affectionate and extremely playful with dogs and people. I love to see him sleeping on his back while listening to his snore, knowing his life is now secure. It is so amazing to me that for a dog that had such a horrendous beginning, he has become such a fabulous and confident dog in so many ways. He only needed a home.

He is many things, but being a great traveler surprised me. He has been to California as well as many beaches along Highway 1. He adores children. A friend on a home trial took him to the bus stop with her children each morning. As a result, strangers still come to me to ask if this black dog is Walter because they heard about him from their children at the bus stop! He goes nuts when he see kids.

All in all, I’m enjoying being a foster failure! If you had never considered fostering a dog, there is no time like the present. There is such a feeling of satisfaction for me that I have actually changed Walter’s life for the better, and I know that he is grateful for the love and companionship that he now experiences in his life with his new family, as he had never had a family. Contact Street Dog Hero to volunteer and do a good thing for yourself and a dog!” -Oreo’s mom, Pat.

$5 Friday! Darla arrived this week from a shelter in Oklahoma, where she was brought in as a stray and had a horrible gash on her head. She is also covered in demodectic mange, which is a parasitic skin infection caused by mites that causes itchy skin and hair loss. It also looks like she has had a few litters in her lifetime so she might have been dumped after not being able to have any more litters. But we can only guess the circumstances that got her to this point 😢

The good news is that her story doesn’t have to end here. We’re going to get her fixed up and feeling better in no time! ❤️‍🩹

We have started her on treatment for the mange, which includes whole-body treatments with benzoyl peroxide, along with ivermectin. With these daily treatments, Darla will hopefully start to grow hair back in places that are currently bald, such as her nose, ears, tail and paws.

It is thanks to your donations that we are able to take in dogs like Darla. So THANK YOU for always being there to support the dogs who otherwise would not have been given a chance. She is worth it and we know her happily ever after is right around the corner ♥️✨

Please consider donating towards her treatments if you can:

🥳 Happy Birthday to our founder, !! Without her and her passion for helping street dogs around the world, Street Dog Hero would not be here today. Her unwavering love and commitment to helping every animal is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. She has the biggest heart of anyone we’ve ever met and we can’t imagine a better person to be an advocate for the voiceless 🐕♥️

Happy Birthday, Marianne. Thank you for always standing up for the underdogs. Over 3,600 lives have been saved since you started this organization in 2017, and we hope to continue to save thousands of more lives in the years to come.

✈️ 33 dogs and cats arrived in Oregon yesterday from a shelter in Oklahoma, thanks to our rescue partners, Dog Is My CoPilot, Inc. and Norman Animal Welfare, and we are over the moon in love with them all 🧡

They were sitting isolated in kennels for 23 hours a day. But now, they have an entire new life ahead of them. They get to experience love. They get to experience life in a home and sleeping in a warm bed. They get to experience all of the happy things that exist outside of the kennel - and for that, we are so grateful.

A HUGE thank you to Summit High School’s, Summit Storm Dancers, for coming to help with yesterday’s transport, for taking the dogs for walks, and for giving them lots of love!

Please keep an eye out on our website if you are interested in adding a new BFF to your family! streetdoghero.org

Just a couple of cuties settling in at their new foster homes after their long flight from Oklahoma today!!🥰

33 dogs and cats arrived in Bend this afternoon, thanks to Dog Is My CoPilot, Inc., and we are SO excited to introduce you to all of them! They got in late this afternoon and are still getting used to their new surroundings but everyone is very sweet and happy and they are all doing great.

Thank you to our fosters for opening up your homes and for giving them a place to stay! We are also still looking for several more fosters if you have space in your home for a rescue pup. See who’s available for foster by filling out a foster application on our website. Or email us directly at [email protected].

We have puppies, big dogs, small dogs, mellow dogs, active pups, and everything in between!

Thinking of adopting? Please keep an eye out on our website over the next few days as we are currently working on getting their bios added to our site!

Time for another FOSTER CALL‼️ Tomorrow, we will be welcoming 33 rescue dogs (and several cats) from a shelter in Norman, Oklahoma. They will all be arriving via plane from Dog Is My CoPilot, Inc. at 1pm tomorrow (Wednesday 10/23) and we really need fosters in both Portland and Bend.

Shelters in the South are all in crisis, with kennels filled to the brim with dogs of all ages, sizes and breeds. So we are VERY excited to welcome this new crew of dogs and cats to the Street Dog Hero family tomorrow.

Please consider fostering if you can. We are looking for fosters who can give them a temporary place to stay since we are limited on the number of kennels at our facility. And fostering sets the dog up for a better chance at success in a forever home by getting them used to life in a home.

To sign up to foster, please visit streetdoghero.org. Or if you are already an approved foster, email us at [email protected].

🇯🇲 That’s a wrap, Jamaica!! It has been a VERY busy couple of days in Kingston, where we’ve worked with our rescue partners, J.S.P.C.A, Brenna Jiv, Fundación Calle Cero, and Montego Bay Animal Haven to successfully spay/neuter 421 animals in 2 days, surpassing our goal of 400 animals! These clinics are a lot of work but they are so rewarding and make a HUGE impact in these communities, who don’t have adequate resources, by keeping millions of dogs off the streets.

Once again, a BIG thank you to Tito's Handmade Vodka for sponsoring this weekend’s clinic. And thank you again to J.S.P.C.A, Brenna Jiv, Fundación Calle Cero, and Montego Bay Animal Haven for making this weekends clinic possible. Thanks to you guys, we are able to provide free spay and neuter surgeries for over 400 animals in Kingston, Jamaica this weekend, where the overpopulation of street dogs and cats has gotten out of control 🇯🇲🐕

Dogs and cats that live on the streets in Jamaica have horrible lives. They survive off of garbage, they sleep anywhere they can hide and feel safe, and if they get even just a small cut, flies will lay eggs in the wounds and they oftentimes die slow and painful deaths due to infections and diseases caused by exposure. The saddest part of it is, all of this is preventable by spaying and neutering.

If you believe in this mission, please donate even just $2 today if you can. If even just a fraction of our followers donated, we would be able to completely cover the cost of this clinic. Or you can sign up to become a monthly donor so we can continue to plan more clinics like this one in the future. Donate today at streetdoghero.org or Venmo us at -Hero.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and love for the underdogs. And thank you to Tito's Handmade Vodka for sponsoring this clinic in Jamaica and for helping make this dream a reality.

🇯🇲🐾 It’s Day 1 of our first spay and neuter clinic in Kingston, Jamaica, where we are working with our rescue partners, J.S.P.C.A, Brenna Jiv, Montego Bay Animal Haven, and Fundación Calle Cero to sterilize over 400 animals in 2 days.

These services are offered for free to the community as a way to encourage people to bring in their owned animals, as well as the street dogs and cats in their neighborhoods, to get spayed and neutered. This is ESSENTIAL in order to end animal overpopulation and prevent hundreds of thousands of dogs from being born into a life of suffering, disease, and neglect on the streets in Jamaica, where the animal overpopulation crisis is getting worse and worse every year.

Thank you to everyone who has donated towards our mission and for helping us continue to fight this crisis, not just domestically in the US, but also in other countries, such as Jamaica. There currently are not many resources available to the community here for low-cost spay and neuter services, which is why large-scale clinics like these are so important to keep the problem from getting worse.

It takes a village. Without our rescue partners, we wouldn’t be able to get the word out to the community. And without the support of our animal-loving community, we wouldn’t be able to fund these clinics.

Please donate today, even just $2 if you can. Every dollar counts. Donate today via Venmo at -Hero and be a part of the solution.

And a big thank you to Tito's Handmade Vodka for sponsoring this clinic!

$5 Friday 🇯🇲 What if you could help save thousands of dogs from a life of suffering and neglect on the streets by just donating $5?

That’s the impact you could have by donating towards our Jamaica spay/neuter clinic, which is happening this weekend in Kingston, Jamaica. A few members of our team flew into Jamaica yesterday, where we are working with local rescue partners J.S.P.C.A, & to get the word out so we can spay/neuter as many animals as possible. Our goal for this clinic is to spay/neuter over 400 animals in 2 days. These services are offered for free to the community in order to curb the overpopulation of street dogs in the area.

This clinic is not federally funded and is only possible because of the support of our SDH community. If you are able to donate just $5 today, you’d be helping cover the cost of a spay/neuter surgery and make a lasting impact.

To be able to fund these clinics and keep hundreds of thousands of dogs off the streets, it starts by spaying/neutering. Please donate today if you can.

Good morning from this handsome meatball, Nico!☀️ Nico came to Street Dog Hero from Fences For Fido in Portland. They were first introduced to him several years ago after Nico was badly injured in an attack (swipe to see photos 😢). He still has the scars from the attack but he hasn’t let that experience affect him one bit and he’s a big lovable goofball who loves everyone and everything ♥️

Sadly, Nico’s owners were no longer able to care for him so they reached out to Fences for Fido, who then asked if we could take this sweet boy in to our program. And after one look at his photo, we knew he was coming with us.

Today, 7 year old Nico is being fostered in Central Oregon where he’s waiting to find a loving home. Nico is a HUGE people lover and loves to curl up in your lap and cuddle. He also loves other dogs, is super gentle with kids, and doesn’t even mind cats! And his foster tells us that he’s 100% potty trained and has a tail that never stops wagging 🥹

He’s basically a gentle giant who’s looking for a bed to lay on and a person to shower with affection. If that could be you and you’d like to set up a meet and greet with this happy boy, please fill out an Adoption Application at streetdoghero.org.

😴 Goodnight from momma Lucy’s little potatoes (who aren’t so little anymore!!), Schroeder, Linus, Snoopy and Woodstock!

Momma Lucy is on a home-trial right now with her potential new family while she finishes out her heartworm treatment. And 5 of her 9 puppies have already been adopted! 🤗

Now, it’s Schroeder, Linus, Snoopy and Woodstock’s turn to find loving homes of their own!! We are now accepting applications for these adorable beagle mix puppies at streetdoghero.org. If you’re ready to make it forever, then please fill out an Adoption Application on our website.

Thank you again to their foster, Sharon McNeil, for taking such great care of these babies and getting them ready to be adopted! And thank you to their current fosters, Miguel and Meagan, for giving them a place to run around and be happy little puppies while they wait for their families to come along.
