URGENT HOME NEEDED FOR ALDO🚨 Meet Aldo, a 150lb Anatolian Shepherd in need of a farm, ranch, or property to call home. He’s a gentle giant who’s spent his whole life outside, and he’s just too big for our office setup. He needs room to roam and would make an amazing livestock guardian dog.

Aldo is one of 10 Anatolian Shepherds left behind after their owner in Christmas Valley was hospitalized and won’t be returning. His niece is doing everything she can to find them homes - and we’re trying to help!

šŸ• Best in a home with no other dogs (we haven’t tested him yet)
šŸ” Needs space to roam - land or a farm
šŸ’™ Very friendly with people
šŸ‘ 150 lbs of fluffy working dog

He’s currently bursting out of his kennel - please help us find Aldo the space he deserves!

Lemon’s Journey 🧔 This Pupdate is on a very special blind puppy from Armenia. At just 3 months old, blind, malnourished, with cut ears and a broken paw, she was rescued off the streets… only to be put on a euthanasia list in Armenia. But her rescuer saw something in her - and begged us to help. We didn’t hesitate.

Once in the U.S., Lemon was placed on strict kennel rest so her spine and leg could finally heal. Slowly but surely, she grew stronger…and eventually, she was adopted by a local veterinarian who named her Lemonade - ā€œbecause when life gives you lemonsā€¦ā€ This vet is now our Street Dog Hero vet! 🩺

Lemon lives an amazing life with her family of 5 (plus dogs, cats, horses, chickens, quail & reptiles!). They even bought a new home with her in mind. Here’s an update from Lemon’s mom:

ā€œIn July 2021, at only 12 weeks old and nearly 30 lbs, our Anatolian shepherd arrived blind, with cropped ears, a fractured elbow, and a spinal subluxation. She couldn’t stand or even urinate on her own that first week.

We took her on as a hospice case—knowing that with two vets as parents, she’d be in the right place to heal. When the kids renamed her ā€œLemonadeā€ (because ā€œNobuā€ was too hard to say), we giggled quietly, thinking how fitting it was… because she really was a lemon at the time. šŸ‹ But the name stuck, and she has been our Lemon ever since.

Six months of strict kennel rest, countless meds, and a lot of love later… Lemon surprised us all. We apparently did our jobs too well because she’s about to celebrate her 5th birthday! Today, she rules 5 acres outside of town, ā€œguardingā€ her sheep, goats, chickens, and playing with her horse friend Archie. She also shares her home with 3 SDH dog alums and 1 SDH kitty alum. According to her Tractive collar, she averages 20 hours of sleep a day—a true queen of comfort. šŸ‘‘

She may look intimidating to strangers, but to us she’s pure love. Lemon was our very first SDH pup, and she’ll always be the one who turned lemons into Lemonade.ā€

Brylie has those puppy dog eyes and she’s not afraid to use them! 😜

This sweet 3 month old lab mix was rescued from a horrific hoarding case in Ensenada, Mexico where 298 dogs where pulled from a home where they were living in cramped cages, in darkness, and were suffering from neglect and malnutrition.

When she first arrived at Street Dog Hero, Brylie was so terrified of people, she wouldn’t come out of her crate. But thanks to her foster, Ella, she’s now blossomed into a playful, loving girl.

She gets along with kids and dogs of all sizes and we think she’d thrive with a canine sibling to show her the ropes, but would be equally happy soaking up all of your love as a solo pup. Brylie will need a patient adopter who will continue to work with her as she grows. In return, she’ll shower you with lots of love and snuggles 🄰

Apply to adopt her today at streetdoghero.org. Her adoption fee is also $50 off as part of our adoption special for National Pet Adoption Month!

🌟 It’s Vet Tech Appreciation Week, and we wanted to give a special shout-out the one and only Jaymie - vet tech, foster manager, chaos coordinator, lifesaver, and all-around hero at Street Dog Hero.

If you know Street Dog Hero, you definitely know Jaymie. She’s the one pulling all-nighters to meet transporters at 4am, juggling surgeries and clinic days like a pro, taking in the hardest cases when no one else can, and somehow still making jokes through it all.

Jaymie has been part of every spay/neuter clinic since day one, and we honestly don’t know how she does it all - but we do know that SO many dogs are alive today because of her.

Thank you for the long days, longer nights, and the giant heart you bring to this work. Your compassion and dedication is unmatched and we honestly couldn’t do this without you. ā¤ļø Happy Vet Tech Week, Jaymie.

šŸ’” Not all stories have a happy ending. And this one hurts.

Jackie was one of the lucky dogs who made it out of South Korea where the meat trade takes the lives of so many. So when Jackie made it to the US, we had dreams of a happy new life for him here in the US. But life had other plans and threw him yet another curveball.

Shortly after arriving, our vets found that Jackie was battling aggressive Basal Cell Carcinoma. It was spreading fast - and was likely very painful. We made the hard decision to give him love, comfort, and peace in his final weeks, and we said goodbye. šŸ’”

This isn’t the ending we hoped for. Jackie deserved more time, more memories, more days lounging in the sunshine. But in his final month, he got all the love in the world. He ran through the grass, ate steak, was spoiled with treats, and most importantly - he knew he mattered.

To his incredible fosters, .mcneill.148 and Jane - thank you. You gave Jackie the best days of his life. 🐾

Not every rescue ends with a forever home, but we do everything we can to make every moment count. Jackie’s story reminds us why this work matters. And we’ll continue saving lives in his honor.

Give your pups an extra squeeze today - for Jackie. Rest easy, sweet boy. You were so very loved 🌈

Muffin is all smiles because she just landed a foster home 😊 - Big thanks to Zach and Allie!

Muffin has been through quite a roller coaster over the past couple of months: After her previous owner in La Pine faced housing challenges, he was told he’d be evicted if he didn’t rehome Muffin and her 6, one-month old puppies. Her 6 puppies went to another rescue, and Muffin ended up at the Humane Society of Central Oregon in August. We brought her into our program at the end of September - and she’s been a total rockstar and staff favorite!

✨Muffin is 2 years old, sweet as can be, and great with kids, adults, and other dogs. Whether she’s playing fetch, hanging with dog buddies, or snuggling on the couch - she’s all love, all the time.

Ready to add Muffin to your family? Her adoption fee is currently $50 OFF in honor of National Pet Adoption Month šŸŽ‰ Fill out an application today at streetdoghero.org.

Not adopting right now? You can still help dogs like Muffin by donating $50 to support our mission to get more dogs into loving homes.

šŸ“ø Thank you for the beautiful pics of sweet Muffin!

Scout’s Journey 🧔 - rescued from Los Barriles, BCS, Mexico in 2020. šŸ‡²šŸ‡½

ā€œScout and his litter of 8 brothers and sisters and their mom were found by a local man in Los Barriles, Baja and were given to Cortez Rescue. The local man who found them helped pay for all their vet fees and wanted to make sure they went to good homes.

We adopted him on July 15th 2020.
The three of us survived covid together in Portland, Oregon before selling all of our things and buying a van to build into a full time tiny home on wheels to travel the United States. The three of us spent two years traveling the country full time.

Scout has been to over 40 states, 20 national parks, and played in numerous forests and parks. When we picked him up from the Street Dog Hero volunteer that drove him from Tijuana to Portland, she told us ā€œhe’s a shy oneā€ and he has remained shy ever since and we love him that way.

He loves frisbee, digging sand holes, playing bed shark, and snuggling with his dad. He is the best dog we could have asked for!ā€ - Scout’s mom, Mia.

65 animals fixed. 12+ hours. One big impact. āœ‚ļøšŸ¾ We’ve been at it all day in Christmas Valley running a spay/neuter clinic - and wow, what a day. This small rural town doesn’t have a vet for over 2 hours, so days like this are huge. For many of these pets, this is the only vet care they’ll ever get.

We were able to spay/neuter 65 cats and dogs today, helping this community tackle pet overpopulation head-on. Out here, it’s easy for things to get out of control - lots of land, lots of farms, and not a lot of access to care. That’s why we’re here.

Big thanks to Miranda Lambert's MuttNation for funding this clinic 🧔 and to our friends at the Humane Society of North Lake County for getting the word out to the community!

Also…we took in two owner surrenders today. Their siblings didn’t survive the freezing temps outside, and these two were barely hanging on when they arrived. We’ll be bringing them back to Bend tonight. More on them soon ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹
