Street Dog Hero Street Dog Hero was founded by Marianne Cox in 2017 in Bend, Oregon. Marianne has always said "one day I'm gonna save a street dog".

Street Dog Hero is a 501c3 non-profit EIN #82-0916174 in Bend, Oregon that serves dogs in need around the world and their communities through rescue, adoption, wellness, spay/neuter, and education. With Street Dog Hero her dream has become reality and now strives to save thousands.

Want to make a rescue dog’s day this summer? ☀️❤️

We’re looking for volunteer dog walkers to help give our shelter pups some much-needed love and exercise! We have morning and evening walking shifts available 7 days a week - plus, you can sign up for an “Adventure for a Day”! 🐶✨

What’s an Adventure for a Day? It’s your chance to “rent” a rescue dog for the day - take them on a hike, maybe a little paddle board session, grab a pup cup, or just spend quality time together. It’s an amazing way to help them burn off energy, build social skills, and get closer to finding their forever home.

If you can’t foster or adopt right now but still want to make a big difference in a rescue dog’s life, this is the perfect way to help out!

Do you need a cuddle bear with short little legs in your life? We’ve got you covered - meet Panda 🐼 (aka Shortstack)!

Panda and her boyfriend, Pl***oy (who has officially been adopted) came to Street Dog Hero from a shelter in California. They were both abandoned at a community for people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles after their owners received housing and left them behind.

The animal control had known about Panda and Pl***oy for quite some time and would often go check on them at this community when one day, they discovered that the owners had left them there. Sadly, we are also told that Panda and Pl***oy had a litter of puppies together but they got parvo and none of the puppies survived 😢

Despite this rough start at life, Panda is an absolute love bug who is OBSESSED with people and loves playing with other dogs. She’s always down for a good game of fetch, is a great adventure pal, and she especially loves the water.

Panda is 3 years old and loves belly rubs, going for car rides, and is easy to walk on a leash. She’s also good with cats and would do great in a house with respectful, dog-savvy kids.

BIG NEWS: Our first-ever summer camp for kids is coming to Portland, OR! ✨🐾 This August, we’re launching two Humane Education Summer Camps for kids ages 6 - 10 and we’d love for you to join us!

🌟 Camp Fun Includes:
🐶 Learn about the challenges street dogs face and how to help.
🎨 Get creative with art, games and storytelling.
🐾 Discover how dogs and cats communicate & how to care for them kindly.
🐕 Meet special dog guests and play outside!

📅 When: August 11–14 & August 18–21 (Monday - Thursday)
🕘 9am - 1pm daily

WARNING: GRAPHIC ⚠️ Luna survived a brutal machete attack. Another dog wasn’t so lucky.

Luna was found in San Felipe, Mexico, with a machete wound and three skull fractures. Thanks to the amazing local vets and San Felipe Dog Rescue, her wounds were cleaned, the infection was treated, and she got the stitches she desperately needed.

Sadly, another dog - a Pitbull found just 100 yards away - didn’t survive this vicious act. These heartbreaking attacks on innocent street dogs must stop.

The overpopulation of street dogs in San Felipe, Mexico is getting out of control. So we are heading there next week to bring back dogs to the States and give them a chance at finding homes in the US.

Because no dog should ever have to go through what Luna did. If you can donate $2 to help fund our trip, every little bit helps.

Portland Fosters Needed‼️ We have some very sweet dogs in Portland (and some that will be arriving next week from Mexico) and they are needing a place to stay when they land! If anyone is available to foster one of these pups until they are able to go to their forever homes, please fill out a foster application on our website. Or if you are already an approved foster, just email [email protected].

✨In order we have: Zoey, Fairfax, Carson, Abel, Tula, Bigfoot, Shelby, Ernie, Jackie and Thunder.

We will get you set up with all of the supplies you need to foster - crate, food, toys, etc - you just provide the space and love ❤️

Pupdate 🧡 Roxy, Oklahoma, 2024.

“Roxie Ann! We adopted her in early November - she came with a group of rescues on a flight from Oklahoma.

We had to say goodbye to our beloved old Border Collie a few months prior, and despite some initial hesitation about taking on a new dog too soon, it quickly became apparent that Roxie was JUST what our family needed. She is equal parts playful, goofy, sweet and snuggly, and her ears have a mind of their own! Our girls rush home after school to see her, and argue about who gets to snuggle with her next.

Ms. Roxie has A LOT of energy, which makes sense since she’s a wild mix of Aussie, Border Collie, Hound and Husky. To harness that energy, she loves hikes, short runs, sprinting in circles and playing with her toys. After her wiggles are out, Roxie knows how to fully relax, often falling asleep in the silliest positions. Our family is so grateful for the energy and love she has brought to us. $5 Friday‼️URGENT: STREET DOG CRISIS IN SAN FELIPE 🇲🇽 🚨

San Felipe, Mexico is facing a heartbreaking crisis - with no animal control and overwhelmed rescue groups, the streets are overflowing with street dogs. The local shelter is packed beyond capacity. The government’s horrifying “solution”? Rounding up hundreds of innocent dogs and electrocuting them in Mexicali. 💔

This is why Street Dog Hero is stepping up. At the end of this month, we’re heading to San Felipe to deliver dog food and supplies - and to bring back as many dogs as we can, giving them a chance at loving homes here in the U.S.

PDX FOSTER NEEDED ASAP 🧡 Pittie lovers, meet Lucho - the sweetest, most social boy who just arrived in Portland this week from our rescue partners in Baja California Sur, Mexico. He’s looking for a place to crash while he waits for his forever home!

Lucho’s journey hasn’t been easy. He was found outside a supermarket in Mexico - skinny, sick, and suffering from a serious leg injury after being hit by a car. Thanks to caring rescuers and a successful surgery on his back leg, Lucho made a full recovery and he is now ready to enjoy life to the fullest.

✨ Lucho is about 3 years old, a 55 lb pit bull mix, and an absolute lovebug with people. He plays well with other dogs but would really prefer to be the only dog in the home so he can soak up all your attention.

A box of 10 tiny kittens was dropped off at Bend Veterinary Clinic. Sadly, one of the kittens didn’t make it - but the other 9 are safe and thriving. One little one is being closely monitored for a possible neurological issue, but he’s in great hands with our vet team.

One of the staff at Bend Veterinary Clinic has already adopted one of the kittens, and the remaining 8 will be going to foster homes 🏡🧡 While we’re mostly known for rescuing dogs, there was no way we could say no to these sweet babies.

The kittens will be named by their fosters and will be available for adoption in the coming weeks once they’re old enough.

This momma dog was found in heartbreaking conditions in San Felipe, Mexico - she was living in filth and in distress after being in labor for TWO days. 💔 Thankfully, she was rushed to the vet where she underwent an emergency C-section and gave birth to 13 puppies.

Thanks to San Felipe Dog Rescue, this little family is now safe and getting the care they desperately need.

‼️Donations Needed‼️ We’re currently getting ready for a trip down to San Felipe, Mexico at the end of this month where we will be bringing back a van full of pups and we would love any donations of the following items that we can take with us (we leave June 21st).

The shelter in San Felipe currently has 81 puppies and 59 adult dogs in their care (with more being dumped everyday) and they are desperate for these items, which are hard to come by in Mexico.

UPDATE: Transport Found!! Thank you!
URGENT: TRANSPORT NEEDED 🚨 Is anyone driving from Seattle to Portland on Sunday (June 15th)?? We have 2 pups flying in from South Korea that are looking to catch a ride!

Thunder (aka Cheondung) and Jackie were rescued from a meat market and have been waiting for this opportunity to fly to the States for months. Now that they have their flight volunteer confirmed, we really need your help to get them to the finish line.

🏁 PLAN B: If you aren’t driving that way but you live in Seattle - we could still use your help! Our other option is that we have a volunteer who can drive the dogs to Portland on Tuesday or Wednesday so if we can’t find someone to drive the dogs, we could use a foster for a few days in the Seattle area that can give them a place to stay temporarily.

Our volunteer and foster community in the Seattle area is extremely slim so if you know anyone that lives in Seattle or who makes that drive from Seattle to Portland regularly, please SHARE this post to help us get the word out!!
