Street Dog Hero Street Dog Hero was founded by Marianne Cox in 2017 in Bend, Oregon. Marianne has always said "one day I'm gonna save a street dog".

Street Dog Hero is a 501c3 non-profit EIN #82-0916174 in Bend, Oregon that serves dogs in need around the world and their communities through rescue, adoption, wellness, spay/neuter, and education. With Street Dog Hero her dream has become reality and now strives to save thousands.

Recognize this sweet little boy, Domingo? He was found as a stray in Central California with a fractured leg and ended up stuck in an overcrowded shelter for over 3 months ❤️‍🩹 He then hitched a ride to Oregon with us where our vet was able to examine his leg and cleared him as ready for adoption.

Not long after he was fully healed up, Domingo’s family met him at our adoption event in Sunriver and knew it was meant to be 🥹

Welcome home, Domingo! We knew this was the life you were always meant to have 🧡

Pupdate 🧡 Back in September 2020, Street Dog Hero did our first large-scale rescue - 19 dogs saved from a hoarding situation in La Paz, Mexico. What we thought was a local rescuer turned out to be a hoarder, and the dogs were living in unimaginable conditions: sick, starving, and desperate for help.

Sasha was the worst off. She was the skinniest and mangiest of them all - just skin and bones. We weren’t sure she’d make it through the night. A local vet told us she likely wouldn’t have survived another week in the condition we found her in.

But Sasha proved us all wrong.

With love, medical care, and time, she gained weight and grew back her fur within two months. Once healthy enough, she made her way to the US - and straight into the home of her amazing adopter, Siana.

Today, Sasha is the definition of resilient. From a life of suffering to now, living a life filled with love and safety - her transformation reminds us exactly why we do this work.

Here’s an update from her mom, Siana, on how Sasha is doing today:

“We first got her after she was skinny and starving, but she quickly settled into life in Portland and became such a good dog. This past year we moved out to the country, and she couldn’t be happier! She spends her days chasing moles, occasionally scaring off dear, and lounging in the sun on the porch.

She’s stayed the sweetest, happiest pup who loves everyone she meets (almost as much as she loves her treats). She is starting to gray a bit around her snout. She groans a lot out of contentedness and plays like a puppy still. And every night she sleeps with me like the true princess she is.” - Sasha’s mom, Siana.

$5 Friday‼️ 298 dogs confiscated from a property in Ensenada, Mexico. Horrific is the only word for the conditions these dogs were living in. Most of these dogs lived in total darkness, crammed into tiny metal cages, suffering from malnutrition, untreated injuries, etc. The abuse and neglect these dogs have suffered is truly sickening.

The situation is urgent. In 2 weeks, we have an opportunity to get 10 dogs from this hoarding case to Oregon but we need your help to get them here. They will need medical care, plus the cost of travel.

If you’re able to donate just $5, it would make the world of difference to get these dogs out of this nightmare and on to the next chapter of their lives so that their healing can begin. We can’t do it alone.

We know rescue is tough everywhere right now. This week alone, nearly 50 dogs were rescued from a hoarding situation in Central Oregon. We’ve already reached out to the Humane Society of Central Oregon to offer help once the court order is lifted.

These situations are heartbreaking - and they happen more often than people realize. Every one of these dogs deserves safety, care, and a second chance. We’re here to help however we can.

We need to come together to defend these innocent animals who don’t have the ability to stand up for themselves - but it takes a village.

📚🍎 Awkward back-to-school photos brought to you by our newest crew of Street Dog Hero pups - Rita, Mary Kate, Mako and Becky - fresh off the road from an overcrowded shelter in Texas and now safe here in the PNW!

These sweet pups were part of a shelter with over 200 dogs, and we brought them up to Oregon to give them a better shot at finding loving homes (and so they don’t have to spend months or years at the shelter).

We’re 100% full right now, so if you can foster and help get one of these pups out of the facility, it would be a huge help.

When they drove by, kids were throwing rocks at her and she was cowering in fear. Our rescue partners, Beach Dog Rescue Costa Maya Mexico, asked the owners if they could take her.
And they said no…unless they were paid.

They couldn’t leave Coco behind to suffer a life of pain and fear. So Coco came to the US…and was adopted by a loving family. ❤️

Supporters like you are the ONLY reason we are able to care for dogs like Coco. “Coco—also known as “Cocoa Bean” and “Coco Chanel”—is the best girl in the world! She’s my second dog from Street Dog Hero and became the perfect buddy for Benny, who was nervous and timid when I first adopted him. From the moment they met, Coco’s confidence and curiosity showed Benny how to be a real dog.

Beyond being Benny’s rock, Coco is my sweet, funny, and playful baby girl. She’s strong, loves being chased by my cats, and insists she’s a lap dog despite weighing 45 pounds. She’s also my little watchdog, always alerting me to squirrels and strangers near the house.

Coco makes me smile every single day. Knowing she had a rough start, I spoil her and make sure she always feels safe and loved.”

A little sneak p*ek of some of the dogs that just arrived yesterday from San Felipe, Mexico!

Please say hello to Vito, Roxy, Nick, Mac, Bridget, Faith, and Hope! These pups were all rescued from horrible situations in Mexico💔

Mac, Bridget, Faith, and Hope were found locked in a tiny 3’ x 10’ enclosure with no food, very little water, and no shade - surrounded by f***s. Thankfully, our rescue partner Donna was able to get them out. And Vito, Roxy, and Nick were rescued as puppies from an abandoned home.

These pups are incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager for love. So far, they’re doing great with other dogs and are soaking up all the attention they can get! After their long journey, they would LOVE to decompress in a foster home.

FLIGHT VOLUNTEER NEEDED ✈️ Heading to Cabo (or know someone who is)?? We are needing a flight volunteer to transport Dash and Neo from Cabo to Redmond or Portland, OR! Please email [email protected] if you can help.

We handle all of the logistics and make it super easy. You just show up for your scheduled flight and the dogs will be brought to the airport to meet you.

Dash and Neo are both 6 months old and were found living on the streets in Mexico. They are neutered/spayed, fully vaccinated and their paperwork is all ready to go! They just need someone to get them to the States so they have a chance at finding loving homes and don’t have to grow up at the shelter in Mexico.

We had a flight volunteer lined up for them this week but they had to cancel at the last minute so now these pups are just waiting for someone to bring them north.

We would love to get them to Oregon before they get too big to fly in cabin so if you are traveling to Cabo anytime in the next 2 months, please email [email protected].

Not traveling to Cabo but heading somewhere else in Mexico? We also need flight volunteers who can fly dogs from Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, Mexico City or Mèrida. Email us if you have a trip coming up!

Want to curl up under the pillows with Marley? 🥹🥹 This sweet lab mix has been waiting for his people to come along since May but hasn’t had any luck, which is a mystery to us because he’s such a sweetheart.

Marley is 7 years young and was rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Oklahoma. We don’t know his backstory but from what we can tell, he was very loved by his previous family as he’s a big cuddle bear. He’s potty trained, crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash, and is friendly with every person he meets. He can be a bit selective on his dog friends however so he’d prefer to be the only dog in the home.

Marley is gentle, loyal, and so ready for his turn. Apply to adopt him today st streetdoghero.org. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his vaccines. He is currently being fostered in Bend, OR 📍
