FEAR AGGRESSION
Here are some tips to help your dog with fear aggression associated with motion.
Dog Training Tip #175
Repeating commands over and over is a common mistake we make when teaching our dogs different cues or command.
It’s important to let your dog process what you are asking of them and give an opportunity for compliance. The more you say it, the less they hear it — and it loses all of its value.
Start asking for things like “sit” just one time, pause and allow them the chance to do it.
We put in a great effort to childproof our homes so that our toddlers are protected from danger. However, many people do not want to take the time to do the same for their puppies and get mad when they do destructive things.
How to Avoid Separation Anxiety
Are YOU giving your dog separation anxiety? 😬
We can easily instill it in our puppies, young dogs and rescues but not allowing them their own independence. Socialization is important, but you can easily overdo it. ✋
🐾 If you take your puppy everywhere and spend every waking moment with them, you’re seeing setting up a false expectation that you’ll always be in their presence.
Separation Anxiety is a serious issue that can escalate and potentially have to be fixed with medication. 💊

Training Tip No. 309
This is important!
When are dogs are displaying their cRaZy behaviors 🤪 our inclination is to pet them, in hopes they’ll calm down. 😌
On actuality, they’re perceiving that as praise.
So, start recognizing when your pup is calm and reward them for that instead. Showing them that we like that behavior, will start teaching them to do it more. 👏

The Secret to Teaching Fetch
The secret to teaching “fetch” is having a second ball to encourage your dog to come back to it and drop the one they are bringing. 🎾
— Throw the first ball.
— Be excited as your dog is coming back to you. 🥳
— Get down eye level and be a cheerleader 👀
— When your dog is a few feet away, say “Drop it!”
— As soon as they do, throw the second ball.
— Repeat!🔁

3 Immediate Remedies to Control Your Crazy Puppy
Using a stern voice for the “Leave It” command only stops the behavior, by getting your dogs attention. 👀
Instead, make it a game, by using a happy and engaging high-pitched voice. 😃 Your dog will start understanding that coming to you, instead of ignoring the directive, is a way better choice 👍

Here are three relatively simple quick remedies to start making your life a little easier with your cRaZy puppy! 🤪
3. There’s no such thing as too much exercise. Both physical activity and mental stimulation will help get in front of some unwanted puppy behaviors. 🔋🪫
2. The crate is a perfect, safe place to put your pup when they just won’t settle. 😌 We never use it as a punishment — and that comes from how we put them in. Never yell at them for unwanted behaviors because they have no idea why we’re yelling. Just be neutral with your tone or say nothing at all. 20 minutes is a good decompression time.
1. Having your dog drag a leash around the house will give you a great way to control where they go and what they do. Be sure and have them on a harness, so that you’re not pulling the dog by the neck. ⚠️
Three easy-to-do tasks will change the way your dog is acting. ✅

When you’re pup grabs shoes, socks or anything else we don’t want them to have, they’re not doing it to because “they know they shouldn’t!” In fact, they actually know they should! 👟🧦
Your dog has figured out what gets you up off that sofa to start the game! If they grab a toy, nobody moves. Your dog is pretty smart! 🧠🧐
🥳 Reward your dog for the good behaviors they give you, like deciding to chill on their bed with a bone. And they’ll do that more often.
And if you want to keep your shoes in-tact — put them away!

There’s no replacement for having your dog come to you, every time you call. 📞 So you should do regular, structured practice.
1. Use a long training line to ensure they’re not veering off to a investigate a distraction. 🐿️👀
2. Practice hand targeting, first in the house, by having them come to your open palm with a treat in it. 🫲 Start at short distances inside the house. Add distance incrementally before bringing it outside.
3. No need to have your dog do anything when he comes... Just be excited and give him the reward. 🥳

Be sure to keep these four things in mind when you start the leash walking process with your puppy:
🐾 Diminish your dogs pulling and reactivity by getting them exercise BEFORE the walk.
🐾 Letting your dog meet every dog or person on a walk sets an expectation for meeting every dog and person on walk.
🐾 Periodic sniffing is great mental stimulation and helps keep them calm. Also, allow your dog to stop and do nothing for a few minutes. It’s a great reset.
🐾 Don’t try to reason with your dog or pet them when they’re reacting to trigger. They will mistake it for praise.

⏱️The more words you string together when teaching a command, the longer it will take them to grasp the concept.
Start with two words: “Brutus, bed.” .... Then you can add, “Brutus, go to bed.” And you can evolve to “Brutus, go to your bed...” And so on....
Short and to the point gets the best initial compliance.🫸 🫷

Your puppy is going to be thrilled to meet your guests — and they will prove it by jumping and acting cRaZy! 🤪
Here are some things you can start doing to teach them to be calmer😌:
1️⃣ Remain calm yourself when you come home. Wait until you your pup sits before petting or engaging.
2️⃣ Exercising your pup will run energy out of them⚡️Get them worn out in advance, and you stand a better chance of having them be calmer.
3️⃣ The leash is a great way to limit your pups ability to jumping. Controlling a dog’s space is a key factor in helping with impulse control.
4️⃣ Finally, you can do your part — but your guests have to do theirs as well. Explain to them that they need to wait until your puppy is sitting before they get any love or treats!

Letting strangers rush up and try to greet your dog is unfair to them — especially is they’re skittish or reactive. ✋
There’s nothing wrong with stopping those people momentarily, to give you a chance to get your dog in a settled position — allowing them to be more accepting of that person.
When people ask if they can say hello to your dog, do this:
1. Hold up your hand and say “sure” but let me get him in a sit for you. 🫸
2. Once your dog is sitting, hand the person a treat and ask them to present it in an open palm. 🫲
Doing this also teaches your dog that sitting and calm, equate to meeting new friends and getting something yummy! 😋
