A looooooooooong (reminds me of Roger🐶) time ago, I asked you to send me a video if you needed my advice so I could give my answer to your questions and share them so everybody could learn from them. At least, that was the idea 😅
But then the whole situation with James happened, and I haven’t been able to work on these videos. But...…. I finally found the time to answer a couple of them, so here is my answer to the first question I received! 💥 This one is all about the shoulders….

Getting a horse to understand and think about what he is doing (no matter what he is doing) is far more important then getting him to do what you want.
In this video I prepare Magic for the trailer by practising his feel when I ask him to go over different surfaces and through narrow spaces. In the full video you can see he's curious but he's also having doubts. What he doesn't feel confident in is that a human can help him with his insecurities, so that's a major aspect I have to turn around.

To continue our journey towards safe trailer loading, I need to find a connection with him in groundwork too, after we’ve taken the beginning steps in liberty.
When I worked with Magic, I felt that he saw all questions as a bad thing. This is often the case with horses who face issues, no matter what the issues are. They have lost trust in us being able to guide them somewhere, and therefor they react without thinking to find an escape.
In my first groundwork session with Magic, I had to show him he could trust my questions, and that I could bring him something by helping him towards finding softness to bring him some physical and mental peace.
In this video I took the first steps towards that. Of course he is not there yet, and I sometimes had to be a bit clearer to reach him. But even though lots of it is “not pretty” on the outside (as he has difficulties to let go of the tension he has been feeling for lots of years and therefore stopped working of feel around humans), on the inside the beginning steps towards finding a change have been taken.
Just remember: when we have to be clearer to reach him, it’s important to do it in a way without blaming the horse. Him not being soft is a result of years of struggling for him, not because he wants to be like that. It is our job to show him he can trust us, then he’ll become soft. Sometimes it means asking something a bit clearer to make sure we are trustworthy, sometimes it means giving him more time to think when he is open to think. To me 2024 feels like it didn’t even happen. On one hand it feels like the shortest year ever as the year went by on one single breath. But on the other hand so much has happened, that it should have been 10 years. At least I’ve felt 10 years of struggles I can tell you that 😅🤪
But no matter what has happened and how the year has been, every morning I wake up to the most beautiful smile and it’s all worth it! 😍
I’m looking forward to next year! I’ve got some exciting things ahead! 👏🏼🔥
I hope to be getting back with the horses a bit more, to really start Ruby, pursue my dream of riding the grand prix on the neckrope. Maybe I’ll start Sara even too 🤪
and I am thinking about another Mella baby…… as Ivy is just irresistible…! 🫠
I hope to travel with Jacco and James. Entering this new chapter in my life makes me realise I need to take time for more “non” horse things too 💕
This will be the year he starts to crawl, walk, talk. I don’t really like changes but with James it’s so exciting every time he learns something new. I am so looking forward to it! (Besides from the sleep regressions that are part of the deal…..🥵😴🤪)
I am hoping to travel to horses to film a couple exciting new on Tour Problem Solving Series! 🚗✈️🍿 We’d love to go to Iceland….. anyone having troubles with their Icelandic horse? E-Mail me!!!!🙋🏼♀️😅
And in March we have our first show after a long long break! We go to Herning in Denmark and I’ll bring Imola and Mellow💛 It will be Imola’s first ever music show and Mellow is still in her building up phase so I don’t know what I’ll be able to show exactly but we’ll do it with lots of love and passion!

It is amazing to see a young horse be proud of every new thing he learns, instead of seeing a young horse getting insecure over what he is being put through. The start of a young horse has a huge impact for everything he’ll do in the future. Therefor I cannot stress it enough, to start your horse with feel ✨

Solving trailer loading issues 💪🏼
Just as much as a rearing issue is not solved by stopping the horse from rearing, is a trailer issue not solved by making the horse go on the trailer ☝🏼
The issue is a result of the horse not being able to deal with his feelings, and that’s what needs to be solved🙏🏼 Some experience anxiety of being locked up in narrow spaces, some experience a fear for the movement of a truck, and others just don't like the experience 🙅🏼♀️
But to solve these issues, we have to take it back to the root cause of the problem, which is: they haven't found a way to deal with their insecurities. And that's not being solved by just doing it enough times until they don’t care anymore, but that's being solved by giving them the tools to think and experience self-confidence in making healthy choices 🙏🏼
So in my first session with Magic, I take it back to the very beginning to find the root cause of why he is experiencing his trailer loading issues for the last 4 years.
