August is national dog month! 🐾 Don't worry we already talked to your dog to let them know they'll be extra spoiled this month! It's still warm out, so that means lake days, hiking trips and more car rides. And don't forget to stop at The Inside Scoop to grab them a frozen pup cup. 💕

If you're thinking about adding a 4 (or 3) legged friend to your family. Please consider adopting. We have too many wonderful dogs that have been waiting way too long for their forever home.

We have a very special kitten who is seeking her perfect home very soon!

Tricky is an almost 4 month old cat who came to us as a stray with a few other kittens. Being a kitten outside without human interaction made her a bit feral and un trusting of humans. Since coming in she had needed to have her eye removed and be spayed. Before she could go for eye removal she was getting eye drops and oral medication daily. She is much more trusting of us now, however she is still going to be a challenge. She needs an adopter who is willing to be very patient with her and willing to take some time socializing her. At this time it’s probably best that she goes to a home with adults only, she would probably do okay with other cats and dogs given time and a slow introduction. If you think you could be the perfect home please go to our website and fill out an adoption application for Tricky. Once we approve applications we will give people calls to chat more about her needs🐾❤️

We are here to give the spotlight to our diabetic friends. Belle (left) is a 10 year old diabetic cat. She loves being around her humans, following them wherever they go and running to you when you call her. She likes her wet food, treats and loves to take long naps under her blankets.

Nathan is also a diabetic cat and FIV positive. Nathan absolutely adores his humans and is so loyal, he won't ever leave your side. This big paw boy loves the company of adults, kids, other cats and dogs.

We know there are some wonderful people out there who would instantly fall in love with these two and give them the life and care they deserve. If you're interested in learning more about the kind of care Nathan or Belle needs please call us to chat more about them. 207-743-8679

Our Story

Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills provides a safe and comfortable environment for dogs and cats from Oxford County, Maine that have become lost or have been abandoned.

Responsible Pet Care is a no-kill, non-profit shelter. All of the cats and kittens in our care need permanent homes and are available for adoption. Many of the dogs will be reunited with their owners; but some will require new homes.

Our shelter is equipped to care for 150 or more cats and kittens at any one time, and is always full to capacity. The dog area holds twelve to twenty at one time.

We take in and adopt an average of 400 cats and kittens per year. Incoming dogs average 150 per year. Many dogs are reunited with their owners. All adopted animals leave the shelter healthy, spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV tested-cats, heartworm tested-dogs, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, and treated for internal and external parasites. This is all done at the expense of RPC.
