As 2024 comes to a close, we're thinking about all the amazing cats that have come through our care this year, as well as those we were unable to save. Thankfully we usually only have to help a few over the rainbow bridge, but we're generally quiet about it. There's enough sadness in the world as it is, and we see no need to broadcast more of it- although the reality is, posts that stir up sadness and anger seem to do best on social media. In our opinion, along with serving cats to the best of our ability, we can also serve humans by absorbing a bit of the sadness and misery that is the reality of rescue.

I can assure you they are not forgotten- we take those decisions very seriously, and they're made with the minimization of suffering at the front of our minds. Do we always make the right decision? I don't know. Probably not, but it's always done with care and compassion, and in most instances, I not only remember the cat, but also where I was or what I was doing when the decision was made. Those cats are most certainly remembered.

This orange fella, and the handsome Paws, are two we could not do more for than end their suffering with love with the help of people who took the time to make a difference. As we ring in the new year, lets focus on celebrating and BEING kind humans who care, so we can save as many as possible. Here’s to all the best in 2025.

Meet Sweet Cheeks, who came to us with an a**l prolapse a couple of weeks ago. This tiny baby is in the care of one of our amazing (very patient) fosters, who is doing her best (with the help of our awesome vets) to manage her raging diarrhea and get her well. (it's not all cuddles and kisses!)

Sweet Cheeks is one of the lucky ones- so many kittens like her suffer every year because there are simple more being born than we can rescue our way out of. Your support today and throughout the year helps us say "Yes!" to more kittens like Sweet Cheeks, and allows us to finance more trap-neuter-release to help prevent the suffering.

To learn more about some other cats and kittens that have come through our rescue this year, visit www.cherishedcats.org/profiles. THANK YOU! 😺

Sometimes you gotta air out those freshly removed bits...

We funded the spay/neuter and vaccination of 42 outdoor community cats in November, bringing our 2024 total to more than 385 cats removed from the reproductive roster! THANK YOU to all the amazing people out there doing the hard work of trapping and transporting to make this possible.

Please consider a Giving Tuesday donation today in support of this work! Visit www.cherishedcats.org to donate, and to learn about how to use our funds to help reduce the population of unwanted cats and kittens in our local area!

LAST CHANCE! Donations are doubled by generous matching donors through today: www.cherishedcats.org/catmatch

Throughout 2024, a dedicated volunteer worked with property owners in Union County to address a cat colony of mostly friendly cats and kittens in need of a new place to land. We have pulled at least twenty five cats from the property, the majority of which have been socialized enough to be adoptable. Projects like these require a significant amount of work, including trapping and transporting, and fostering. It’s also taxing emotionally, as it can be hard to make the right choice with cats who are only partially socialized.

In this case we also lost one kitten, who likely had significant flea anemia (I’ve never seen gums that white)- and that's the sad reality for too many kittens born outside. There are too many of them, the dangers are countless and the suffering unnecessary. It can be prevented, or at least limited, by spaying and neutering community cats before they become a "colony," as well as all pets. Please consider helping us help do more of that in our local area! 😺

Stories like Fiona's are made possible by the support of our amazing community of cat lovers. Through tomorrow, 11/4, generous donors will DOUBLE your donation- visit www.cherishedcats.org/catmatch for details.

In August we were contacted about a tiny kitten with some pretty significant eye infection. This is an unfortunately common reality among kittens born outside to fend for themselves. It was initially unclear what her fate would be- these infections can be quite painful, and often these kittens have additional issues. But Fiona is now a healthy, happy, affectionate kitten! While she will never had much, if any, sight, she hasn't known any different for most of her life, and will be just fine! She'll be spayed soon and will hopefully make her appearance at The Scratching Post- Lewisburg Cat Cafe in the next month or two, where she'll learn to find her away around and get into trouble just like any other kitten.

*NOTE: Initial pics will be in the comments- steer clear if you're squeamish!

Thank you to everyone who came to visit the kitties at the Public Library for Union County today! Also, much appreciation to Mary at the library for helping make it happen, and to our fosters for bringing all the great kittens! Even Ariel the escape artist. 😹

There are only a few days left to help us maximize the matching gift funds from our generous donors. Visit www.cherishedcats.org/catmatch to help today! Thank you!

Whoops! We missed sharing our September numbers: we funded 26 TNR surgeries in September, and an additional 34 in October. This brings our 2024 total to nearly 340 cats! This means we've spent more than $17,000 this year working to reduce the population of stray and feral cats in our local area.

Through 11/4, we have generous donors willing to DOUBLE YOUR DONATION- will you help support our continued TNR efforts and the work to prevent kittens from being born to a difficult life outside?

Help us maximize the generosity of our matching donors in support of kittens like Bogey and Bacall: www.cherishedcats.org/catmatch

Current residents at The Scratching Post- Lewisburg Cat Cafe Bogey and Bacall had a rough start to life. We don't know why their mom left them behind in the landscaping soon after they were born, but clearly they needed help. These tiny babies were lovingly bottle fed by fosters until they were eating independently- which when they're tiny means bottle feedings every few hours around the clock. And look at them now!

Your donations makes stories like this one possible- these two ate A LOT of KMR! 😹 We invest hundreds of dollars more than adoption fees can support into each cat in our care, and that's not possible without your help. THANK YOU!

Hard to believe September is nearly over, but here we are! In August we funded 33 TNR surgeries for stray/feral community cats, bringing the 2024 total to 266 cats taken off the reproductive roster using our financial support. As always, thank you to the individuals doing the trapping work, as well as the veterinary staff who make it possible!
