I think we all know how irritating it can be to get a lash in your eye... for cats with entropion they're dealing with that sensation all the time! Entropion in cats happens when one or both of their eyelids roll inward causing constant irritation. Left untreated, entropion can lead to painful scratches and ulcers. Gatsu had entropion in just one eye, which may or may not have been related to a prior injury. His eye was significantly irrigated and had goopy discharge even with eye medication. He had his eyelid corrected a few weeks ago by the wonderful people at Susquehanna Trail Animal Hospital, and he has healed very well!

You've found a cat or kittens you think are in need of help- now what?!

Our area rescues are inundated with requests for help and most are currently at capacity. The good news is people who rescue animals don't have super powers. 🦸‍♀️We're just like you- we also have families, jobs, health issues, space limitations and other responsibilities. So first ask yourself- can I make this work? The answer isn't always 'yes,' but consider what you can figure out. You can also reach out to local rescues for help and guidance, just know they may not be able to take the cat(s) immediately.

Today, well, technically yesterday now, I suppose, seven cats went to the Nobody's Cats Foundation in Camp Hill to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated, so they're not continuing to reproduce in our area. Thank you to the hard-working trappers, transporters, and those recovering the cats- you're doing an invaluable service to the community!

This little darling recently joined our crew- she has been to the vet and we're following their guidance to hopefully correct her leg issues as much as possible. Down the road we'll consider if any further treatment is needed. In the meantime please send her all your good healing vibes!

Shout out to everyone who lent a hand earler this week in rescuing a four week old kitten from the inner workings of a car!

Lewisburg senior (and kitto foster) Robby spotted the little guy/gal on the side of busy Route 15 Tuesday and stopped to pluck him off the roadway before something bad happened.

Unfortunately the kitten was so scared it managed to slip out of Robby’s grasp and made its way into the dashboard of his vehicle. Despite the efforts of several volunteers who turned up to help, the kitten wouldn’t budge. That's when we decided we had to call in someone who could potentially remove some parts of the steering wheel column/dashboard to get to the kitten. Colby Reedy was kind enough to stop and after a little more time and a lot more effort, managed to free the kitten!

This little one is safe and sound thanks some awesome teamwork!

Two more kitties taken out of the baby making business today, and this one has no idea just how lucky she is. She was suffering from pyometra- an infection in her uterus that would likely have been quickly fatal if left untreated. Yet another reason spay and neuter is SO IMPORTANT! Reminder: we support the spay/neuter and vaccination of community cats - visit our website to apply for financial assistance, and help reduce the number of unwanted litters born in our area!

Gatsu was rescued yesterday for a vet appointment today. This boy has lived a lot of life in his one short year, but now he is safe!

He received all vaccinations, and was neutered, during which the veterinarian found a pellet in his groin.

He’s got some healing to do, but welcome to the good life, Gatsu!

Look! Kittens!..... Oh, wait! More over here!.... ACK! There are more!

Yeah. Full transparency- we are very rapidly approaching the point where we are full up. So what can do you if you find kittens and no one "wants" to help*? First off, if they are happy, healthy kittens- leave them alone until they're old enough for spay/neuter, then do that. Their parents too. We'll even pay for it! Or- temporarily turn a spare space (bathroom, bedroom, laundry room...) into a kitten room. Is it convenient? No. Is it a lot of work? Yes! If we don't have existing foster space, we do try very hard to support as many people willing to do some of the leg work as we can, so please still reach out via our website and we'll do our best to be in touch.

*To be clear. No rescue wants to say "no" to kittens. Ever. I mean- LOOK AT THEM. But there are only so many resources- not just financial, but also time, energy, and sanity. So if a rescue is saying no, I implore you- please don't threaten, curse, post public rants, etc.... bottom line, be nice, and understand that if we could, we would. THANK YOU!

Kitten season is in FULL SWING. We've had requests for more than 20 in the last week alone. The good news? We are mostly stocked up. We're able to obtain a variety supplies at well below retail price, including kitten formula, flea treatments, deworming medication, and food and probiotics for unhappy tummies. We could use your help filling the cabinets with canned food for kittens and adults. Currently Chewy is running a great promotion- if you spend $100, you get a $30 gift card. So buy some goodies for your kittos, and throw in a few things for us to get to $100. Two more coming off the reproductive roster today! That makes four from this location spayed/neutered, plus two mommas with kittos that are safe with wonderful fosters.
