I went to my physical therapy and rehab appointment on Monday, where the doctor checked me over and helped with the problems I've been having from not being able to walk normally for the past several months. Ever since the surgery, my back has been sore, and some of my muscles have been working too hard to make up for the ones I haven’t been using properly. The rehab doctor was very gentle and showed my person a bunch of different exercises, stretches, and massage techniques to help me feel better. Some of them felt really nice, and I leaned into them, but others were a little weird—I wasn't sure what to think! They also talked about how to balance my arthritis medication while keeping my kidneys healthy, which I guess is important, even though I don’t really understand it.
The doctor said it would be best if I could come back in 6-8 weeks to see how I'm doing and get more hands-on treatment if I need it, but my person says we might not have the extra funds. That's okay, though—I trust them to help me at home with all the things the doctor taught them. (Apparently, the surgery didn’t cost quite as much as expected, so some of the extra funds went toward this rehab appointment, which I think was a good idea because my back really did need some help.)
After that, we went to see my surgeon to get my final bandage off. I wasn't sure about it at first, but they were gentle and very nice, so I stayed still. They checked my paw and said it still needs a little more healing, but as long as it doesn't get infected, my person can take care of it at home. Twice a day, they put a funny-smelling cream on it and then wrap it up in a soft cotton sock. I don't love it, but I tolerate it because my person says it's important. I really don't like that I still can't jump around, though—that's the worst part of all this! I just want to bounce and play again. Hopefully, soon. 🐾
