At Stark Naked Bits ™ we have a simple philosophy. The less you use on your horse to more the connection increases between the rider’s and horse’s body and mind. Riding bridleless is certainly an option, but it’s not always feasible, in fact in some cases show rules forbid it. So the next best option is a bridleless bit, which allows you to com
pete with a bit in the horse’s mouth, without a headstall getting in the way. It’s not legal for all events, but it is legal for a lot of them. While jaw bridles are not a new concept, they were used by the first horseman thousands of years ago, and Native Americans, they did need some revision to become usable for everyday riding and competition. Most of the modern versions are very expensive, $200.00 or more, and are made of leather. We decided to create a more cost effective and longer wearing bit. Thus the Stark Naked Bit™ was born. Unlike most bit makers that recommend different mouthpieces with magic properties for lifting your horse’s shoulder or stabilizing his hock we don’t claim any of that malarkey. Here’s what our bit does: it disperses weight over the tongue and provides light contact on the lips and chin. No poll pressure, no nose pressure. No worries about a bridle being pulled into the eye, a too tight throatlatch, or headshaking from pressure on the caudal nerve behind the ear. If your horse has headshaking issues or gets anxious about having a bridle pulled over his ears this bit may be the one for you. It allows you to train and ride while working through other issues. It’s a simple concept, start as close to natural as you can, as being naked is what the horse understands. Riding with a Stark Naked Bit is simple. If you want to go left pull the left rein or neck rein, or even push your horse with your seat or leg. It’s simple, ride your horse like he’s a horse and all things will go well. Get serious, ride NAKED!
