If you’ve considered cropping your dog’s ears. Don’t. They are adorable just the way they are.

I’ve been asking AI (Artificial Intelligence) to give shelter dogs their ears back. These dogs’ previous owners cropped their dogs’ ears for unknown reasons. Usually the practice is justified as a preventative measure against ear infections or injuries, but studies have not validated these claims and veterinary associations consider it an elective cosmetic procedure. Bottom line is: in the majority of cases ear cropping is done for looks and to uphold outdated, cruel breed standards.

There are a few folks out there who want vilify the shelter for what they believe is not taking care of animals the way they would take care of their own pets. What they don’t realize it’s nearly impossible to put the same amount of energy, care, love and money into hundreds of dogs in one location vs. one or two in a single home. But yet, the staff try. And the staff keep trying even as more and more dogs come in. So if you want to see change in how the shelter cares for the animals, be part of that change and help a shelter out come to the Marietta Blvd or Howell Mill location to adopt or foster.

Some dogs find their way to the shelter even though they have owners of their own. Arnold is currently on microchip hold waiting for his family to come and claim him. If you have a pet, microchips are a great way to be contacted if your dog every gets away from you. If you have a lost dog/cat and they aren’t microchipped, visit your local shelter frequently to see if they made it in.

Did you know that FCAS takes in all sorts of animals. With the shelter at capacity, they could certainly use help with folks coming to adopt any of the four-legged (sometimes they may have 2-legged or no legged) animals available. Stop by for a visit and bring your next furry friend home.

These 2 were seen in 2 different neighborhoods roaming or just relaxing. No one knew where they came from but they definitely needed help. Someone was able to coax one into their backyard and get the other one the next day. After seeing if they were lost, they brought them to to report as found. One had a chip but the owner decided to surrender the dog to the shelter. Which ended up being fine because the family who brought the dogs in wanted to adopt them both anyway. When coming across dogs in your neighborhood, always think lost not stray and consider bringing them to he county shelter, just to confirm that no one is out looking for them.

Please consider fostering or donating. The shelter needs homes for the animals or even crates to send with dogs who are going out with fosters. Wire Crates on the larger size are needed.

While the nation prepares for the COVID-19 situation, our top priority is keeping people safe while helping the animals in our care. As doors are closing around our city, we have an obligation to work hard for Atlanta's animals. We urgently need your help.

Following the recommendations for social distancing, we are working on ways to limit close contact, like finding matches virtually and delivering dogs to your car. The shelter has a finite capacity and will be restricting any non-emergency intake.

Learn how to help below.

DONATE: Funds are critical more than ever to help us keep our operations in flow and to get extra supplies ready to move the animals into homes. Donate at LifeLineAnimal.org/donate or on this post.

FOSTER: If you’re interested in fostering a pet temporarily, please sign up at LifeLineAnimal.org/foster. When you complete our questionnaire, our staff will reach out to you with more information.

ADOPT: If you are interested in adopting at any LifeLine shelter, please visit LifeLineAnimal.org/adopt to view our available pets and complete an adoption questionnaire.

It's the 12 year anniversary of a dog fighting bust that likely changed the way folks react to dog fighting and dog fighters in a more public way. He may not be asked about this in interviews anymore, but the animal welfare community doesn't and shouldn't forget.

Twelve years ago, 47 dogs were rescued from quarterback Michael Vick’s dogfighting operation and given the opportunity to be family pets.

~~Update: temp foster secured~~
Barristan is one of Fulton County Animal Services's longest residents, and lately he has been telling us that he wants to get the heck out of the shelter! This boy is starting to get frustrated with his kennel mates and needs to get out ASAP.

Barristan is a very sweet boy. His volunteer advocates describe him as quiet, curious and wanting affection. He walks great on a leash and loves to be by his human. He would make a great addition to your family! He is a low-rider and on the smaller side.

Please consider fostering (even for just a weekend), or adopting, to save his life!

Email [email protected] if interested. Please share.

Update: Temp foster found! - still looking for a longer term foster or forever home

This gorgeous boy is Conch. He currently lives at Fulton County Animal Services. He is getting pretty frustrated being at the shelter and needs help out!

He is a favorite of multiple volunteers for his lovable personality.
He is a big goofy do**us, which is probably why he’s annoying his run mates. Outside of the run, he is a VERY GOOD boy - more interested with people than toys, and did great in the yard with little kids. Unfortunately, would probably not be a good fit for kitties.

This big lug needs a foster, even if it’s just for a couple days. We will figure out the next step after he gets his ticket out. Please share!

Hey Atlanta, the Fulton and Dekalb County shelters need you! With over 1800 animals that came into both shelters this past month, they are seeking help in literally saving lives by stepping in as a foster parent or even coming to adopt your next furry family member.

Kenny is one of those dogs. He’s a 8yrs young with an old injury that could be better healed if living outside of the shelter. He’s a sweet boy who just wants to be near you. He takes direction well and goes in and out of his crate with ease. Come meet Kenny and the rest of his pals. Kenny is available at Fulton County Animal Services

This weekend LifeLine Animal Project adopted out over 800 animals from its locations including Fulton County Animal Services and Dekalb County Animal Services. So many animals now with fur ever homes. But we should take a step back an think how can we try to prevent animals from being brought to shelters in the first place. The state of Georgia has a Dog and Cat sterilization program funded through the purchase of a Dog and Cat Sterilization License Plate. To help with the overpopulation of GA animals, consider this option when you need to renew your GA tag. http://www.agr.georgia.gov/dog-cat-sterilization-program.aspx

The DCSP is funded from the sale of the Dog and Cat Sterilization License Plates and from private donations. The DCSP is designed to (l) help pay for dog and cat sterilization procedures performed by Georgia licensed and accredited veterinarians, (2) provide educational materials about the benefit....

An introduction

Rolo is our very first rescue dog and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect dog for our home. He’s taught us about patience, selflessness, and unconditional love. As a volunteer at our local animal shelter, this page is dedicated to all dogs like Rolo - rescue dogs just looking for a family to love.
