[From the admin] Walked up on the hill today. Elvis is buried there. We planted a dogwood tree over top of him. I was missing him something awful today; just needed to take a little time and commune. Reminded me of a post from several years ago on my main profile. Very apropos.

When I was very young, we lived in a house up Coonskin Hollow. There was very little level ground in the immediate vicinity of our house. We had a rock wall out back that was about three foot tall, and the bank above it was particularly steep in places. One of my favorite spots to sit was underneath a small dogwood tree, which itself grew in the dappled shade of the bigger black walnuts and maples. There wasn't much grass or violets or any other type of plant that grew on the ground underneath it. I can still remember looking at the clay soil and small bits of rock, twigs, leaves, and other woodland debris. In spite of this, I always felt a sense of peace wash over me when I would walk through that little patch of woods, and would often sit there on the hillside. And one day, as I basked in the glorious presence of a cool, summer Appalachian evening, I remember thinking that I knew why this place was so peaceful: "God lives here."

Note from the admin: This is Hannah, Duchess of Olde Farm. She came to us 4 years ago as a Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue alumni. She was 5 1/2 years old. She was in foster care with LSCR a lot longer than most because she was extremely shy. It has taken her a very long time to come out of her shell. Today, for the first time, she greeted me at the door when I came home and allowed me to pet her. It's been a long process, but today she finally became a real Cavalier.
