UPDATE TIME:

Hello all, sorry it’s been so long. Really haven’t been well. So in a couple of days it’ll be 9 months since I was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myloid Leukemia) I had 4 high dosage rounds of chemotherapy and because my AML also came with mutations, I had to take other chemo drugs too. All of which came with side effects. I needed a bone marrow/stem cell transplant which was delayed 3 times. 27th May, 3rd June and 27th June. Luckily, my donor (all the way from Germany) was patient and waited.
I had a 5th round chemo this month and the transplant took place of 8th August. Side effects are tough, all day exhausting but some days slightly better than others. Back home now but Docs say i could feel like this for months. Hope not, I slept 20 hours on Friday.
I hope you’re all well, thank you to all those that messaged.
Much love to all
Ben xx

Hello everyone, just thought it was maybe time for a health update.
As you can see, I’m still here 🤪
I’ve now had 3 rounds of chemotherapy, the last one was much higher dosage and caused me to feel quite ill but got over it pretty quickly. Thanks to anti sickness drugs.
I saw a consultant last week who informed me that my most recent biopsy shows that the cancer is now undetectable, which is great. I’ve been in remission for a while now.
I will however still be needing a stem cell transplant at the QE in Birmingham and luckily they’ve found me a “perfect match”. A 21 year old all the way from Germany.
Over the next few weeks i’ll be having numerous tests. Heart scan, kidney tests, lung function, bone marrow biopsy and something called a Hickman line put into my chest (you can google it) . This is all in preparation for the transplant. It’s scary and comes with risks but it has to be done if I want to get back to some sort of normal life. I’ve got this far after all.
Thank you to all that have text me over the last few months, your messages brighten my day whenever I get one.
And thank you so much to ALL the staff on ward C35 at New Cross hospital. They truly are amazing, I wouldn’t have got this far without them. People knock the NHS but I’m here now because of it. I love them all dearly.

I’ll keep you informed. Hope you and your beautiful pooches are all well and happy. Miss you all.
Ben xx

Hello all,

Just thought I’d update you.

Doctors have told me that I’m in remission at the moment. I’ve had two rounds of chemotherapy. My leukaemia mutated for some reason into something called FLT3. So as well as the intravenous chemo, I had to have huge chemo tablets too. I also had two serious infections and was rather ill for a week or so. One of my friends in there passed away and I never got to say goodbye. Low immunity make you susceptible to everything. I’m home at the moment but will be going to QE Birmingham in the near future to discuss the next step of a bone marrow/stem cell transplant.
As you can imagine, I’m pretty scared but I know it needs to be done.
I want my life back!
Missing you all.
Much love always
Ben, Brian and Valerie xx🐾

Hello all, hope 2024 has started well for you.
As you know, I’m unable to work and won’t be able to for quite a while from what I understand.
You’ll be needing an alternative groomer.
Here I have two recommendations for you.
Diamond Dogs by Gemma: based in Rushall
And for those living more Bloxwich way you have: Scruff Cuts by Chloe. Both are excellent groomers and could help you out if needed.
Hope this helps.
Take care,
Much love,
Ben.

Hello Everyone,
Just thought it was time for an update regarding my health and Patty Paws Dog Grooming.
I’m so sorry that I had to let you all down for your Christmas grooms.
I’ve been in hospital for 5 weeks tomorrow. On Monday 27th November I was diagnosed with Leukaemia. As you can imagine, my world seemed to crash around me. After receiving 2 different kinds of chemotherapy so far, I’m hoping to be discharged soon but it’ll be a temporary thing as I need to come back for more treatment. I just don’t know when I’ll be given the all clear to work again, as my immune system is so low. Which breaks my heart.
I know that you’ll obviously need to find alternative groomers but hope that when the time comes, you’ll be able to come back to me.
Patty Paws is just me, working in my converted garage but I worked so hard to build it up and don’t want to lose it. I’m so thankful and honoured that you chose to keep bringing your pooches to me, I love them all.
I WILL be back.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ❤️
