As a professional dog groomer, I have seen and heard it all. Please read and share this, as we all know someone who has a dog that gets groomed. Sometimes people arenât aware of what we deal with.
1. Respect my profession. I do a physically demanding, and sometimes disgusting job. You bring your pets to me because you canât or donât want to groom them yourself. I choose this job. I didnât get âstuck with itâ. Please donât look down on me for my career choice.
2. Getting bitten is NOT âpart of my job!â If your dog bites, TELL ME. It hurts, it can cause loss of income, and it can even end my career. If you know your dog bites and you didnât tell me, youâre liable to get fired and I will warn surrounding groomers of your dog to protect them from injury.
3. Donât ask for a discount.
This is my salary. My livelihood. How I put food on the table & pay my bills. You wouldnât want to be paid less at your job because someone didnât want to pay what your work is worth. It is your choice to bring Fluffy for grooming. It is your choice if you have more than one dog. Iâm still doing the same amount of work. I should not have to take a pay cut for these reasons.
4. Please call or text to cancel or reschedule your appointment as soon as possible. Donât âNO SHOWâ. If you donât show up, I donât get paid. Please respect my time and give me the courtesy of a call or text so I have a chance to fill the appointment slot.
5. Donât call or text me in the middle of the night, Sunday morning, public holidays etc to make appointments or general enquiries. Please only contact me out of hours if you have an issue about attending a booked appointment.
7. Please donât expect me to de matt your pet. If you donât brush your pet or bring them frequently enough, Iâm not going to put them through the unnecessary pain of de matting them so you can keep them fluffy. Iâm not in the business of harming animals for the sake of vanity.
8.Donât arrive too early for your appointment time. I may still be working on a puppy, or an anxious dog, or even a biter, who really needs my full attention for everyone to have a good & safe grooming experience. I may also be working on a dog aggressive dog that needs clear air between appointments. I schedule to accommodate these things, please respect my schedule.
9. DO NOT SHOW UP EARLY FOR PICKUP!!!! This one is super important! I may still be working on your dog. If you show up early I may not be able to safely complete your dog. I work with extremely sharp tools and that combined with an over excited dog, can lead to an accident. It also means I now have to manhandle your dog to keep them still whereas until you arrived early they were standing/sitting patiently and focused on the grooming.
10.Please donât moan if thereâs a price increase.
Everyone deserves a raise. Iâm no exception. My time and knowledge is valuable. Please donât undermine that by complaining about my prices.
Dog groomers deal with a lot physically, emotionally, and mentally doing what we love. Please donât make it harder by being âthat client â. Common sense & courtesy cost nothing but, are priceless.
