Chicken is regarded as a low allergenic protein. In the textbook Small Animal Clinical Nutrition a big research project showed that in the confirmed cases of food allergies (which is problem in under 1% of the total dog population), 67% were allergic to beef and beef by-products, while only 23% was allergic to chicken.

What determines the quality of a protein source is the protein content: high quality chicken meal is readily available from Europe, as all lay hens there become chicken meal in the end. Omega only uses imported chicken meal from Europe, as our locally produced chicken meal has a low protein and high ash content (because the largest portion of all chicken carcasses slaughtered locally is used in the human food chain).

SEASONAL ALLERGIES
An animal with seasonal allergies reacts excessively to allergens on the skin or inhaled from its environment – such as pollen, grasses, dust and mold. A dog that reacts to allergens becomes itchy; especially at the feet, groin, armpits and belly. Less commonly, dogs may have sneezing and watery eyes, similar to people with “hay fever” symptoms.

Environmental allergies cannot be cured, so symptoms need to be controlled lifelong when they flare up around August to October.
Sometimes drugs are used, but it has been shown that higher levels of the Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA lessen the need for allergy drugs in many dogs.
