How Do Cats Keep Cool in Hot Weather? ☀🐱

Cats have clever ways of staying cool. They groom themselves more often in the heat, using evaporating saliva to create a cooling effect.

🥵 But when temperatures soar, your feline may need extra help staying comfortable.

Here are some tips to keep your cat cool and happy this summer:

#1. Switch Their Bed
Provide a summer-friendly bed made of lightweight materials or a cooling mat to help them stay comfy.

#2. Use Cat-Friendly Sun Cream
Cats, especially those with short or white fur, can get sunburned. Apply cat-specific sun cream to sensitive areas like their ears and nose.

#3. Circulate Cool Air

🐈‍👻 Halloween can be for the kids AND the fur-kids! Try making some easy, pet-safe Halloween treats and rope in the kids to make it even more fun! 🎃

Here are two fun and easy recipes:

🎃🐕 Pumpkin Peanut Butter Bites (For Dogs)

Ingredients:

- 1 cup pumpkin puree (make sure it's plain pumpkin, not the pie mix with added sugars and spices)
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter, no salt or sugar (ensure it doesn't contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (or a grain-free alternative)

👻 Instructions:

- Preheat oven to 175°C.
- In a bowl, mix the pumpkin puree and peanut butter until smooth.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough and use Halloween-themed cookie cutters to shape.
- Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Allow to cool before serving.
- Before giving this to your dog, be sure of ALL possible allergies.

🎃🐈‍ Tuna Catnip Treats (For Cats)

Ingredients:

- 1 can of tuna in water (drained)
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 2 tablespoons of catnip
- 1 cup oat flour

👻 Instructions:

- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Blend all ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
- Form small, pea-sized balls and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Flatten each ball using a fork.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until slightly golden.
- Cool before serving.
- Make sure that your cat is clear of ALL possible allergies.

Summer is HERE: Tips for a Safe and Fun Adventure 🐾🐶

Those trails are calling, and we're here to remind you of a few quick tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable outing for you and your doggo!

☀ Prep & Train: Make sure your dog is physically ready for the hike. Start with shorter walks and gradually increase the intensity.

☀ Dog Gear Essentials: Use a sturdy collar or harness with ID tags, a short leash, and consider booties for dogs with sensitive paws. Poo bags are essentials too. 😉

☀ Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water for both of you!!! Don't leave home without a travel dog bowl. Avoid letting your pup drink from rivers or streams.

☀ Watch the Weather: In hot weather, watch for signs of heat exhaustion like panting, sluggishness, or bright red gums. Take frequent breaks in the shade and NEVER EVER leave your dog in a car.

☀ First Aid Ready: Bring a pet first aid kit with essentials like antiseptic, bandages, tweezers, and tick removers. Familiarize yourself with basic pet first aid in case of emergencies.

☀ Trail Etiquette: Always leash your dog on trails, and let other hikers pass safely. Clean up after your pet, and if needed, bury waste (plastic-free) far from trails and water sources.

☀ Plan Ahead: Check trail rules to make sure dogs are allowed. Apps can help you find the best, dog-friendly routes.
