Day 9 Update
Raising the Fry in the tumbler.
They still have their egg sacks but are swimming around nicely while their father looks on. I'm super impressed with this product because now I finally got something from that faulty female.
Lastly I connected everything up and placed them in the tank with the parents. This is actually the bigger tumbler so it almost didn't fit. I don't recommend it entirely for a 3ft tank. So that means time for an upgrade. Nevertheless I'm excited because it's working.
The next step I used a large dropper to scoop the eggs out and place them into the tumbler.
Continuing from my previous post. I had a female that was holding some eggs. I stripped her and got a few eggs as she was still very small. As you can see two were already un-fertilized in her mouth.
The Yellow Fin Kadango (Copadichromis borleyi)
Also known as Red Fin Borleyi Cichlid, Yellow Fin Borleyi Cichlid, Haplochromis Borleyi is a fish native to the lake Malawi.
They are peaceful and hardy fish although they can be aggressive during mating.
They are active swimmers and require a lot of swimming space to swim and live comfortably.
Males are much larger and colorful than the females. The dorsal and ventral fins have a light-blue edging and the head is beautified with a metallic blue coloration with a yellow to red flanks.
However, the females are silver to brown in color, possessing three dark spots along their sides.
The juveniles all look just the same as females.
The most ideal environment for these species would require a minimum 4ft Aquarium with a ratio of one male with 3-4 females.
The water temperature should be between 24-26˚C
They prefer substrates decorated with lots of ocean rock, coral sand or Aragonite is highly recommended as they will help to keep the water hard and alkaline.
In captivity, these species are not fussy eaters and will feed on a variety of meaty live and frozen foods. Brine shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, daphnia, krill and chopped prawns are great meaty food for the Kadango.
Some vegetables such as blanched spinach can be provided to meet their veggies needs. Also their diet should be supplemented with high quality and vitamin enriched flakes and pellets.
Suitable tankmates include Synodontis Catfish, Haps, peaceful Mbuna, and other Aulonocara species.
Feeding Frenzy
These Malawis still behave like piranhas for food
Malawis Water change shot
My main tank looking good after a water change
Slowly but surely his colours are coming through. If anyone has Red Empress Cichlid. Please feel free to post.
Malawi Cichlids are some of the most beautiful freshwater fish on the planet. Some can even rival salt water fish. Although this is not my aquarium it's just an example of the beauty that can be achieved with this group of fish.
