The Furry Godmother Township & Squattercamp Outreach Tessa van Heerden, takes care of many helpless, stray, neglected and abused animals within the impoverished communities of East London.

She has many dogs and cats on her feeding program and goes into the townships daily to try and make a difference.

They all have to be brave souls from the start of life to the end. So many riddled with parasites causing severe complications. The recent heat has caused further infestation of parasites and a recent outbreak of Parvo that has killed many of the young, which worsens daily. 🦠

I AM ABSOLUTELY DESPERATE FOR DOG AND CAT FOOD THAT SO MANY DESERVE IN MANY CASES OF STARVATION.

Due to having TVT, the community nearby consistently chased her away thinking her condition would affect them in some way. Shamefully, she had to exist down at the dump site causing her further distress. It took patience and determination to rescue her, due to her fear, to prevent her from further suffering. I took her to the vet to ensure her a compassionate ending, relieving her from further misery.

She’s a perfect, sweet and gentle soul, although she was terribly abused by her owner in the township. I instantly removed her and took her to Nahoon Veterinary Clinic for the vital intervention needed. She was never shy to love them all whilst in their care. The day she was discharged she was adopted and is sure to fall in love with her brand new life. 💗

She’s so sweet and so gentle. When I found her, abused, starved, unwanted and her kittens thrown out with the trash. She deserves a life in front of her and a home that’s her haven where she can be a close companion and loved to the end. She’s had time to recover and has been sterilised. Deliberate abuse and neglect sadly is a lived experience and for so many silently enduring it all and never knowing a touch of kindness. This girl I’ve known from a pup, she has a sweet temperament, yet she’s just another victim of deliberate abuse. I took her to Beacon Bay Vet to remove the damaged eye to free her from pain and discomfort. If anybody can help me towards the cost incurred, would be a relief.

Urgent home needed for this loving, sweet bonded pair 💖 Jasmine and Jerry have become inseparable during their long time in foster care, both are now about 7months old, both are sterilized and fully vaccinated. Although they come from very different backgrounds, they are extremely good companions who would thrive if left in the company of one another. Graphic Video (TW) I was sent this video clip early morning from a community member in the township. I immediately responded to this clearly advanced stage of distemper and got to the yard. I removed the young dog preventing further deliberate and intentional taunting inflicted on him. It causes an increased sensitivity to touch and pain and further distress to the animal. I got him to the beacon bay vet as quickly as I could to be compassionately put to sleep. I returned to yard thereafter to try and establish who was the culprit to be able to effect change and a consequence in some way for their behaviour towards the animals.

I’ve seen a drastic increase in violence in the township, more especially over weekends. And so often come across many more animals becoming victims. This dog I came across had been stabbed in the head with a screw driver that pierced her skull and caused brain injury. I found her just left along side a drain. I immediately got her to the vet to ensure a compassionate ending. As the morning progressed I found 5 dogs with broken legs and the struggle for so many dying while living.

My Beautiful, Brave Mama Girl You lived and loved regardless of the relentless, harsh and brutal realities of life in the township. Yet you endured it all and shared your strength and remarkable resilience with me. Our twin glory of love and affection lasted a decade. I'm so grateful for that. Not a day you missed waiting for me. Little did I know, whilst joing my family away over the feastive season, that this pic of our last hug and kiss taken, was our last time together on earth. I will miss you terribly, until we meet again, My Beautiful Mama Girl.
