The idea behind joint supplementation is to reduce inflammation, help maintain cartilage and synovial fluid, and support regeneration.🦴As companions age cartilage, the cushioning material found at the ends of bones, begins to wear away until eventually it’s almost gone resulting in the bones are painfully rubbing against each other. Synovial fluid helps joints move easily by lubricating and protecting articulate tissues. With age the amount of synovial fluid can reduce as well as the quality. High quality, credible joint supplements provide the body with the building blocks it needs to support chondrocytes as well as the quality of the synovial fluid lubricating the joint. 🐾#veterinaryphysiotherapy #veterinarian #dogphysiotherapy #catphysiotherapy
Most mammals enjoy being caressed. Cats, dogs, elephants and humans alike. 💚Stroking a companion activates neurons in the hair follicles that send a pleasurable feeling to the brain. Most of these associations are made during the early stages of life, a mother grooming their young or an infant being tenderly held, calming the nervous system and bringing comfort.🐾All of these are fundamental to the sense of touch and show what a massive role it plays in our emotional state.🌿Manual therapy or “massage” not only serves the physical purpose of releasing tension and compensation but also physiologically improves circulation, aids in the elimination of waste products as well as increasing the release of endorphins, serotonin and dopamine - the “happy”hormones. #veterinaryphysiotherapy #massage #movementismedicine
BARCC & AARCC love Valentine’s Month, so be prepared for a February filled with it. The month of love is one of our favourite things. 🩷
Whatever your human view of Valentine’s may be there can be no doubt that the underlying theme is Love and what purer form exists than that from a companion. 🐾
BARCC & AARCC speak all love languages fluently and we start with the “Giving of Gifts”.
Valentine’s treats for all companions and guardians.

The perfect day to celebrate the achievements of The Springboks as well as the victories of the BARCC & AARCC “Bokke”. 🇿🇦It has been a privilege to work with these souls. 💚Here’s to The Bokke - Big & Small 🐾 Thank you for brightening our days.
Proprioception - the ability to perceive the location, movement and action of parts of the body.🐾It encompasses a complex of sensations, including perception of joint position and movement, muscle force, and effort. These sensations arise from signals of sensory receptors in the muscle, skin, and joints, and from central signals related to motor output. Proprioception enables a patient to judge limb movements and positions, force, heaviness, stiffness, and viscosity. 🩺

Hi Barbie!💗
A visit to the physio for most patients is far from a traditional vet visit. 🩺 Patients are ofter seen weekly, especially initially, they get used to the routine and end up having great fun while healing and feeling better. 🐾
We focus of positive reinforcement, snacks, play and lots of love! 💗💙

The diagnosis of Hip Dysplasia in our companions may seem devastating and it is fair to be taken a back, afraid, angry, sad, confused. Now process and come to terms with the situation and TAKE ACTION. 🐾
Your companion’s age, breed, lifestyle and degree of compromise will all play a role but approach your veterinarian and veterinary physiotherapist and develop a proactive plan. 🩺
Knowledge is power - make educated decisions about what you and your companion can manage, what treatment and management approaches you are going to take and come to peace with the most likely outcomes of those decisions. Dedication is key and lifelong. 🌿
It’s not the end, it’s just a detour into a different direction but you have to take the “Bulldog” by the horns. Give the treatment plan your all in order to give your companion the best chances of longevity and quality of life. 💚
The water treadmill provides a supported, weight-bearing environment that increases functional use of a limb without marked weight loading and resultant discomfort to a painful or post-surgical joint. 🐾The water creates an increased resistance helping to build strength and muscle mass. The water’s viscosity also provides increased proprioceptive and tactile stimulation. Water treadmill walking allows a correct but exaggerated gait pattern as well as the opportunity for incline and decline walking which improves joint range.💚#veterinarian #veterinaryrehabilitation #veterinaryphysiotherapy #barcc #aarcc #caninephysiotherapy #felinephysicaltherapy #watertreadmillfordogs #aquatread

🐾 ESTIM (Electrical Stimulation) is a therapeutic modality used primarily in paralysed patients who cannot actively contract their own muscles as a means of reducing muscle atrophy.
🍃 When the electrodes are placed on a muscle group, ESTIM causes contractions of the muscles and thus can aid in maintaining function and reduce the extent of muscle atrophy (wastage) in immobile companions.
🍃It also promotes blood circulation to the localised area and thus improves healing and can reduce inflammation.
Nothing can compare to active exercise but in patients who are unable to do so, this modality is implemented.

The underwater treadmill is just that - a treadmill that runs in water. 💚
🐾The water level and incline is adjusted according to the needs of the patient as well as their therapy goals. We are able to reap all the benefits of a treadmill such as gait patterning, targeting specific muscle groups and promoting appropriate limb use without the jolting concussive force of land based exercise.
The underwater treadmill provides the perfect combination of buoyancy and resistance for strengthening with many benefits such as;
🌱 Improved joint range of motion
🌱 Increased muscle mass
🌱 Supportive exercise modality for compromised companions
🌱 Weight loss
🌱 Gait training
🌱 Strengthening & maintaining fitness
🐾 The underwater treadmill has benefits for numerous conditions; hip dysplasia, arthritis, neurological compromise, post-operative strengthening and many more

HONOURED 🐾
adjective
- regarded with great respect.
2022 - what a year!
The goods, the greats, the bads, the sads; we faced it! We faced it head on as a pack, a tribe, a team. We laughed, we cried, we got frustrated, we persevered and we arrived at the other end. We lived, we lost, we learnt and we loved. If the veterinary field teaches you anything it’s the unexpected and to ride the waves that come your way. 🌿
A huge thank you to our amazing clients for the continued support and for trusting us with your companions. We have loved every step with you. 💚
To the tribe - I am honoured to work with these incredible young women. Keagan, Elouise and Brittany I thank you deeply and salute you all. 🖤
Never give up 🖤 IVDD
Don’t be fooled - there is a lot of blood, sweat, many tears, many modalities and tons of commitment and perseverance from both patient, therapist and especially guardian, that goes into this but it is possible. 💚
