There are 26 paid staff members and a small team of volunteers who help with the exercising of the dogs and running of the charity shop. A house situated in 42 Reitz Str

eet, Somerset West houses the administrative office and the charity shop, the Jumble Inn. All income generated from the shop and the biannual bazaars go directly to the running costs of the Society. The kennels are situated in Gordon’s Bay which endeavors to re home many cats & dogs. The AWS Helderberg has a mobile clinic operating in Macassar, Eerste river, Tarentaal Plaas, Nomzamo and Sir Lowry’s Pass. At these clinics the dogs are dipped against ticks and fleas, are dewormed, inoculated, given mange injections and the owners given advice. Stray animals are fetched and taken to the kennels where the AWS Helderberg endeavors to re-home them. Sterilization is high on the agenda of the AWS Helderberg. The more animals we sterilize the less we have to euthanize. Where possible, animals are collected, sterilized and then taken back to their owners.

Mika is an absolutely gorgeous female pup that has been surrendered to our kennels. She is around 4 months old and will be a medium size when fully grown. She gets on very well with other dogs, is very trainable around cats, and loves people of all ages including children. She is super precious, so loving and very affectionate. She loves to cuddle and get yummy treats. She is a very sweet natured, friendly and loving puppy with a beautiful temperament and a kind heart. She needs lots of attention, puppy training, a good sized garden and daily exercise. She must go to a home where someone is at home during the day and has the time to care for her and give her lots of attention! She must be a special part of the family and sleep inside the house at night. She will make an incredibly special companion and beautiful family pet. Taylor is a very beautiful middle aged girl that was found on the streets and never claimed. She gets on very well with other dogs and loves people of all ages! She is awfully sweet natured, very friendly and loves to spend time with us! She is very playful and affectionate, and she adores being cuddled and loved! Duke and Princess are two 12 year old Schipperke's that have been surrendered to our kennels. They are brother and sister and have been together all their life. They share a very special bond and absolutely adore each other. They are currently in a foster home but urgently need their own forever home. They are house trained and leash trained. They are very laid back and are quite happy with a gentle stroll around the block. We have advertised and networked these two dogs extensively for weeks on end without a single offer of a home. If we cannot find a home for them together, we are going to have to separate them and they will have to go their own ways and say goodbye to each other. They are well behaved, good with other dogs, but they don't know cats. They must sleep inside the house at night! Azra is a very beautiful 2 year old Chow X Alaskan Malamute that has been surrendered to our kennels. She gets on well with other dogs but a meet and greet with her new family will be necessary. She has never lived with cats and doesn't know them. She enjoys the company of people and is a very sweet dog. She was not exercised in her previous home and will need to be leash trained. We would like her to go to someone who knows this breed, and can offer her a spacious garden, daily exercise and a warm bed inside the house at night. She will do well with some training as she is an intelligent dog who learns quickly and loves her treats! She will make an unconditionally loving companion and a very loyal and devoted pet! Alaska is a very handsome 6 year old Swiss Shepherd that is looking for a new forever home. He is sterilized, microchipped, fully vaccinated and in excellent health. He is house trained and leash trained. Alaska is a gentle, highly intelligent and sweet natured dog. He is sociable and excellent with other dogs. He is also wonderful with children. He has never lived with cats and doesn't know them. He takes treats gently and never begs. He doesn't bark unless there is a good reason to alert you to something, and then he will stick to you like glue. He is well trained, very obedient and a loyal companion. He needs a big spacious garden, daily exercise, company during the day and a warm bed inside the house at night. He needs to go to someone who knows the breed and can offer him the stimulation and companionship that he needs. He would love to go to a home where he will have a canine friend! He is not at our kennels but still currently in his home in Tokai. He will do best in a family home environment.
Alaska is allergic to chicken. Maintaining his health at an excellent level is very easy, if he is not fed anything with chicken in it. His owner would love him to continue a diet of Acana single protein food, or a pellet that doesn't have chicken in it, as he does extremely well on this. He also enjoys doggobone ostrich and gemmas beef. Alaska will make an unconditionally loving companion, and a loyal and devoted pet. A strict home check will apply. We received some donations of soft food for the cats and decided to recycle the bags...pure entertainment on a cold, windy, somewhat overcast day in Gordon's Bay

Cindy has been adopted and we are beyond happy ❤️ Cindy spent her first 4 months of life surviving on a rubbish dump and arrived with a severely damaged leg. The only way forward was an amputation. Cindy suffered so much and deserved to know love. We raised the money, she had her amputation, healed like a champ in an awesome foster home and today she went off to her loving forever home. Go well angel! May you always be blessed Cindy. You are precious beyond words and loved more than you will ever know 💖

🙏🏻PLEASE HELP WHISKY🙏🏻 Whisky is a gorgeous 8 year old spaniel x that was surrendered to our kennels. He is house trained, leash trained, good with female dogs, well behaved and precious. He suffered a very traumatic ordeal (a break in and shooting) in his family home a few weeks before being surrendered to our kennels. He is not coping. He needs a home please. He is not good with cats. He needs human company during the day and he MUST sleep inside the house at night.
