šŸŸ£ FEI WORLD CUP SERIES 2024/2025 WINNERS ā€“ KELLY Oā€™CONNOR AND CAPITAL MOONLIGHT

As the top auction seller at our inaugural Capital Stud Auction in 2017, hopes were high for Capital Moonlight. From the very beginning, his partnership with Kelly Oā€™Connor showed huge promise, with the pair winning both the overall seven-year-old showjumper and potential showjumper titles in 2020 in the Young Horse Performance Series. Last week saw the combination win the most significant title in showjumping in South Africa, just seven short years (and a trip overseas!) since the original auction.

Kelly and ā€˜Moonā€™ jumped their first WCQ in May of this year around what, on paper, was the toughest WCQ track of the season. Three weeks later, they jumped their second WCQ with just one rail and placed 9th. This was their last rail at WCQ level this year, as they went on to jump an incredible three double clears in the following three WCQs, placing 3rd, 2nd and 2nd, respectively! This consistency secured them their first World Cup SA League Series win in just their first year at this level!

Capital Moonlight is a 12-year-old gelding by Chin Win out of a Chacco Blue mare. His dam, Cha Cha Floreval, has proven to be an exceptional dam for the stud, with Moonlightā€™s half-brother, the seven-year-old Capital Cornetblue Floreval Z (Cornet Obolensky x Chacco Blue), having competed up to 1.35m to date with Nicole Horwood and the young stallion Capital Toulouse (Diarado x Chacco Blue) soon to make his debut in the competition arena.

Congratulations, Kelly and Moon, on this incredible achievement! šŸŒ™

2020 AUCTION PROGENY STEAL THE SHOW AT THE TOYOTA SHONGWENI FESTIVAL

šŸ† The 1.30m Championships proved to be a very strong competition at the Toyota Shongweni Festival. Capital Chicane and Charnay Bean were the first of 19 riders to go in the jump-off, and the pair laid down the gauntlet. They pulled off all the inside turns, galloped to the last and came home double-clear in a time that proved untouchable! Chicane is a son of one of Capitalā€™s founding stallions, Capriccio (Cor de la BryĆØre x Capitol I), out of a Consuelo mare. On auction, he was described as ā€œuncomplicated, fun to ride and competitiveā€; he has certainly lived up to this promise!

šŸ† The 1.35m Championships was won in stylish fashion by Leona van der Merwe and the eight-year-old 334 Capital Catori, who produced a flawless round and stole the lead by an impressive 2.3 seconds! Capital Catori is the daughter of international showjumper Catoki out of a MyLord Carthago mare, Capital Lavanya. MyLord Carthago has proven successful as a damsire for Capital, with Catoriā€™s half-sister Capital Claribel (by Capital Colnardo) being the 2021 auction top seller and already jumping in the 1.35m classes; Capital Callaway (Colnardo x MyLord Carthago) jumping 1.40m; and Capital Ayden (Arezzo VDL x MyLord Cathargo) having recently moved up to 1.50m Grand Prix level.

Capital Chicane and Capital Catori were both purchased off the 2020 Capital Auction and are only two of many from that auction collection that have since graduated to compete successfully in the Open classes. Other now Open horses from this collection include Capital Ayden (1.50m - Neriske Prinsloo-Hill), Capital Hope (1.40m - Kayla Gertenbach), Capital Chico (1.40m - Chelsey Gertenbach), Capital Casino (1.35m - Salome Nel), Capital Pyros (1.35m - Carlyn Chelchinsky), Capital Kenzo (1.35m - Erin Dos Santos), Capital Cole (1.30m - Uthmaan Minty), and Capital Clementine (1.35m - Chelsey Gertenbach).

There's much more to come from the 2020 Capital Stud Auction alumni and we look forward to celebrating their achievements over the coming months and years.

KPC FESTIVAL AND THE CLASS OF MAY 2024 šŸ”µ

This KPC Festival saw four of our May 2024 Auction Collection out and about on the competition circuit, putting in some effortless clear rounds.

Capital Carenos Z, the classy son of Carrera VDL (Cardento x Baloubet du Rouet) out of a Cristo x Lansing mare, showed his scope and exceptional hind-end technique in the 1m classes with Ashlee Healy. With a jump to match his striking good looks, he attracted plenty of attention from the spectators.

Capital Kirona put on an impressive performance in the 90cm classes with Amelia Campbell-Horne. This electric daughter of WCQ contender Capital Kronos showed off her light-footed yet powerful canter and endless scope. Kironaā€™s breeding is no less impressive on the dam side, with World Equestrian Games competitor Rendement as her dam sire, and her grand dam being none other than Sweetheart van de Valenberg (Heartbreaker x Lys de Darmen), the dam of 1.60m jumper Sundance, Jodi Ambroseā€™s 1.50m stallion Bella Notte, and Rogan Askenā€™s legendary mare Three Socks.

Capitalā€™s Solange van Navange, daughter of Oscar the Homage out of a Russel II x Casmir Z mare, also jumped easy clears in the 90cm with Oscar Ncube in the saddle for Miuccia Du Siena. The young stallion, Oscar the Homage, is a strong contender in the Young Rider classes with Belgian rider Mathieu Bourdeaudā€™Hui, having helped secure Team Silver in the YR Continental Championships in Italy last year. This super rideable mare has a big future ahead of her.

Finally, Captial Comoros Z, who is being produced by Liam Stevens for Minka Liebenberg, was spotted jumping effortlessly around the 80cm classes. The big grey gelding is a son of Cohinoor VDL (Cornet Obolensky x Stakkato) out of an Indoctro x Quidam de Revel mare.

Congratulations to all the owners and riders; we look forward to seeing more of our 2024 alumni out and about in the near future!

2023 CAPITAL STUD AUCTION HORSES SHINE AT THE YOUNG HORSE PERFORMANCE SERIES

For the third consecutive leg of this yearā€™s YHPS, a Capital horse has won the Five-Year-Old Potential Showjumper category. Throughout the 2024 series, the five-year-old classes have been the most hotly contested, with more than double the entries of the other age groups.

Legs 2 and 3 were both won by Capital Calvert (Chacoon Blue x Capital Hotline), who was purchased off last yearā€™s November auction for Ellah Coetzee and is being carefully produced by talented young rider Janine Coetzee. Calvert scored an impressive 90/100 from the judges to secure his win in Leg 2. Calvert is a son of Chacoon Blue (Chacco Blue x Cartoon) out of Capital Hope (Capital Hotline x Catoki), who, at just 9 years old, is competing in the 1.40m classes with Kayla Gertenbach.

Leg 4 was won by another 2023 Auction feature, Capital Creighton, ridden by Jade Coetzee. Creighton is a son of Capital Conlanc out of a Darco x Julio Mariner xx mare. Darco as damsire has proved to be immensely successful for Capital Stud, with the likes of Capital Night Star, Capital Magic Boy, and the legendary Don Cumarco sporting him as damsire.

Other 2023 Capital Auction alumni that have placed at the YHPS this year include the elegant Capital Aurora (Alicante x Castigo), Capital Roscoe (Rendement x Capital Shiraz) and Capital Lennox (Levubu x Don Cumarco). Lennox was easily identified at his first show as a Capital Levubu progeny by his extravagant jump and exquisite canter!

Congratulations to all who took part. We look forward to what the rest of the series will bring.

STOKKIESDRAAI KUDA WCQ, PART 3 ā€“ AND THATā€™S A WRAP

In our final post on the Stokkiesdraai Kuda WCQ, weā€™d like to say a big congratulations to all the riders who took part on their Capital Stud sporthorses.

We saw some great results, not just in the top classes but also from some of our younger horses, who show huge promise for the future. It gives us great pleasure to see these horses living up to the promise of their bloodlines and excelling on the competition circuit; we canā€™t wait to see what the future holds.

We would also like to thank Kuda for their generous sponsorship of the show, as well as all of the organisers for the hours of work they put in behind the scenes to make this event such a success.

Our team would like to congratulate Thomas van Rijckevorsel on competing in his first-ever World Cup Qualifier on Capital My Lady (Untouchable x Cassini I).

STOKKIESDRAAI KUDA WCQ, PART 1

āļø CONSISTENT EXCELLENCE ā€“ CAPITAL KOLLIER AND CAPITALā€™S MOONLIGHT VAN HET KEIZERSHOF āļø

Kudaā€™s WCQ and Grand Prix at Stokkiesdraai showcased the remarkable consistency of Capital Kollier (Capital Kronos x Capital A Star) and Dominey Alexander and Capitalā€™s Moonlight van het Keizershof (Chin Win x Chacco Blue) and Kelly Oā€™Connor at the pinnacle of our sport.

These two combinations only recently stepped up to the WCQ level and have certainly made their presence felt. Prior to this Stokkiesdraai show, Dominey and Kollier had secured second in both of their initial WCQ outings. This show saw them earn a 4th place in the WCQ, making it an impressive five clear rounds out of six at World Cup level.

For Kelly and Moonlight, the Biogen WCQ saw them finish in 9th place, and at Shongweni, they achieved 3rd place in the WCQ. This show saw them go one better with a 2nd place in the WCQ and the added bonus of a 4th place in the GP.

Our mission at Capital Stud is to breed sport horses who consistently deliver at the very top of the showjumping sport both here and overseas. These two horses embody this goal, proving the value inherent in breeding from the worldā€™s best bloodlines.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we look at more exceptional performances from the Kuda Stokkiesdraai WCQ.

WESTOWN YOUTH CHAMPS 2024

A huge congratulations to all the riders who took part in the Westown Youth Champs 2024, held at Shongweni Club.

The week saw some phenomenal displays of sportsmanship, horsemanship and friendship, and it was a huge honour to attend and see the future talents of our sport in action.

Once again, our Capital Stud combinations did us proud. It was a stiff competition, and there were some very impressive results.

Mention must go to Salome Nel and Capital Casino (Consuelo x Lancer II), who emerged as the 1.30m Championship winners as well as the 1.30m Victor Ludorum winners after an incredibly consistent performance over the entire show. This talented young geldingā€™s scope and speed, combined with Salomeā€™s sensitive, stylish riding, are sure to make them contenders in the big adult classes in no time at all.

We look forward to what the future holds for all of these talented youngsters and their Capital Stud mounts.

CAPITAL MOONLIGHT THIRD IN THE AQUELLE FORESYTE WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Capital Moonlight (Chin Win x Chacco Blue) is out of the same dam as the very impressive Cornet Obolensky son, Capital's Cornetblue Floreval Z, who is currently jumping in the 1.35m classes under Nicole Horwood. Their dam, Cha Cha Floreval, is the daughter of the world's second-ranked showjumping sire, Chacco-Blue. This mare also produced the Diarado son, Capital Toulouse, who is soon to start his journey in the competition arena.

Moonlight's grandfather is the Olympic stallion, Chin Chin. Chin Chin produced the very well-known mare Qerly Chin. Qerly Chin's offspring are highly sought after, and she herself has seeded one of the most famous and desired Belgian damlines of all time. Chin Chin is also the father of Zapatero, whose semen we have used in our breeding programmes.

Capital Moonlight was the star of the show at our very first Auction in 2017, reaching the top price of the day. From Auction, he went to the stables of Chris van de Merwe where Chris produced him up to the 1.20m level. He then returned to his pre-auction rider, Kelly Oā€™Connor with whom he has remained to ascend the grades.

Capital Moonlight wowed in the Young Horse Performance series under both Chris and Kelly. As a seven-year-old, Kelly and Moonlight were the Overall Champions for both the Potential Showjumper and Showjumping categories at this show. Moonlight then went overseas with Kelly for an indoor season in Europe before returning to South Africa and becoming consistent competitors, and podium-finishers, in the top classes.

We were incredibly proud to see Kelly and Capital Moonlight take third place in the Aquelle Foresyte World Cup Qualifier. The sky really is the limit for this talented pair!

Congratulations to Nayel Nassar and Capital Night Star on their 4th place in the CSI5* 1.50m!

CAPITAL KOLLIER ā€“ PERFORMING FROM THE GET-GO

The minute Capital Kronosā€™s first foals hit the ground, it was evident that he would be a valuable breeding stallion for South Africa, and when his first offspring went under the hammer in 2019, it was clear that the South African showjumping community agreed with our initial impression.

Capital Kronos stamps his offspring. Some bear a striking resemblance to their sire, while others show a more subtle influence. Yet, all of them, regardless of their dam or jockey, exhibit the traits of exceptional scope, superior gaits, willing minds and a talent for the top of the sport.

Finding the perfect fit for a stallion can often take a breeder time and a certain amount of trial and error. Capital Kronos doesnā€™t fit this narrative. Every single crop of foals, from his first to his most recent, excel, proving the reward inherent in breeding only with the . Stay tuned for future Auctions where we will also showcase Capital Kronosā€™ talent as a damsire.

Capital Kollier was an Auction topper on that 2019 sale and wowed in the arena from the get-go. He began his competitive career under Lauren Pretorius and was very impressive at the Young Horse Performance Series. He then headed to the Van de Merwe team and ultimately was purchased by the Smith family. He is currently being produced and competed by Dominey Alexander for Holly Smith.

Recent months have witnessed the rise of Dominey Alexander and Capital Kollier to the pinnacle of our sport, and weā€™re still only scratching the surface of this geldingā€™s talents. Kollier shows he has everything it takes (and more), and we expect to see a big title win very soon.

Capital Kollier is out of our mare Asherelle and has been the only one of her offspring sold on Auction. Asherelle is the daughter of Capital A Star, and over the years and with numerous horses, we have seen the power A Star has as a damsire.

Kollier also boasts Toulon in his pedigree. Toulon has a valuable spot in our breeding programme via frozen semen, and his son, Captal Night Star, is now campaigning internationally with Nayel Nassar.

We wish Holly Smith and Dominey all the very best with Capital Kollier; we will be avidly following his journey.

AQUELLE FORESYTE WINTER CLASSIC ā€“ THE RESULTS āļø

What a show! The past few days at the Aquelle Foresyte Winter Classic in Shongweni saw big classes, fast times and exceptional horse-rider performances.

As a team, we are incredibly proud of our horses and their riders.

Special congratulations must go to Dominey Alexander on Capital Kollier (Capital Kronos x Capital A Star), and his owner, Conrad Smith, for his ā€˜second second placeā€™ in just his SECOND World Cup Qualifier. With Kollierā€™s last two performances, it seems the jumps could still go up a couple of holes, so itā€™s fair to say that weā€™re incredibly excited for the future of this young horse. Congratulations to all involved in his care and training!

Third place in the World Cup Qualifier went to the very special partnership that is Kelly Oā€™Connor and Capital Moonlight van het Keizershof (Chin Win x Chacco Blue). These two are knocking on the door of a very big victory in the near future. Careful, scopey and full of blood, Moonlight embodies the Capital promise to only breed with the worldā€™s best bloodlines.

Another huge win for the Stud was that of Thomas van Rijckevorsel and his electric mare Capital My Lady (Untouchable x Cassini I). These two need no introduction being VERY familiar with the top of the podium. Weā€™re hugely proud of this pairā€™s achievements and look forward to seeing many more podium-topping performances in the near future.

Congratulations to all the other riders on their results with their Capital Stud mounts. Hereā€™s a summary of the Champs placings:

AREZZO OFFSPRING WOW IN LUMMEN WHILE HIS SON CAPITAL AYDEN CONTINUES TO IMPRESS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Aydenā€™s father, the Preferent stallion Arezzo, has produced an array of Grand Prix competitors and won multiple Grand Prix and international 1.50m classes. Arezzo, like his son Ayden, impressed from a young age; at three, he was champion at the KWPN Spring Stallion Test, scoring nines for his reflexes, scope and talent. VDL has described Arezzoā€™s damline, which features Heartbreaker, as one that ā€œexemplifies performanceā€. Arezzoā€™s oldest offspring currently compete at the international and Olympic levels.

Capital Ayden was produced by combining Arezzo with the ā€œhorse of a lifetimeā€, Grand Prix stallion Mylord Carthago. Mylord Carthago was successful as a young horse and matured into an international ā€œsuperstarā€. He was a finalist at the Lanaken Young Horse Championships as a four, five and six-year-old. The grey stallion was a part of numerous medal-winning teams and won several individual Grand Prix.

Having jumped his first 1.50m under Neriske Prinsloo-Hill less than four years after the hammer went down at Auction, itā€™s plain to see that Capital Ayden, who remains a stallion, inherits all that his pedigree promises.

Ayden exemplifies our Capital Stud breeding philosophy; by combining the worldā€™s best bloodlines we will create the ultimate athletes, ready for the ever-advancing demands of our sport.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CAPITAL KOLLIER AND DOMINEY ALEXANDER

Yesterday at the Biogen Maple Ridge World Cup Qualifier, we witnessed Capital Kollier (Capital Kronos x Capital A Star) compete in his first-ever World Cup Qualifier under the experienced guidance of Dominey Alexander.

Capital Kollierā€™s debut at the highest level of our sport in South Africa saw him not only perform well, but excel, claiming second place in a very competitive and experienced field of horse-rider combinations.

At just nine years of age, this son of Capital Kronos is an exceptional talent and all-round top quality sporthorse.

At Capital Stud we pride ourselves on breeding horses for the big time, and Kollier embodies all that we strive to produce through our breeding programmes. With scope, step, athleticism, blood and temperament, this gelding is one to watch.

Congratulations, Dominey, on this fabulous result. We canā€™t wait to see what the future holds for you and Kollier. šŸ’™
