Pets, it turns out, also have last wishes before they die, but only known by veterinarians who put old and sick animals to sleep. Twitter user Jesse Dietrich asked a vet what was the most difficult part of his job.
The specialist answered without hesitation that it was the hardest for him to see how old or sick animals look for their owners with the eyes of their owners before going to sleep. The fact is that 90 % of owners don't want to be in a room with a dying animal. People leave so that they don't see their pet leave. But they don't realize that it's in these last moments of life that their pet needs them most.
Veterinarians ask the owners to be close to the animals until the very end. "It's inevitable that they die before you. Don't forget that you were the center of their life. Maybe they were just a part of you. But they are also your family. No matter how hard it is, don't leave them.
Don't let them die in a room with a stranger in a place they don't like. It is very painful for veterinarians to see how pets cannot find their owner during the last minutes of their life. They don't understand why the owner left them. After all, they needed their owner’s consolation.
Veterinarians do everything possible to ensure that animals are not so scared, but they are completely strangers to them. Don't be a coward because it's too painful for you. Think about the pet. Endure this pain for the sake of their sake. Be with them until the end."

ARE YOU WORTH COMING BACK TO?

Full credit Dogs Disclosed

I often cringe when I watch people trying to get their dogs to come back when they call.

They call and call and get increasingly angry and frustrated as their dog keeps ignoring them.

When their dog eventually does come back, or has been chased and "captured” by the now really angry person, they get screamed at, yanked about, smacked or punished in some way for taking so long and not listening.

Why on earth would a dog want to return to someone who does this to them!

Genetics may play a big part in this when an environment is far more stimulating and exciting.

Coming back to you is often the last thing a dog may want to do when genetic instinct is triggered.

An exciting scent or seeing something to chase can all override a response to recall.

Genetics aside, the most common reason that dogs don’t come back when called is because it’s not a positive experience.

Make coming back to you worth it by always making it a rewarding experience and keep practicing this throughout a dog’s life.

Have a little patience if it takes longer than you would like, let your dog finish what they’re doing before calling them, practice in different locations and environments and never reprimand or punish them for coming back.

There is never a guarantee of a perfect recall each and every time, but making it a rewarding experience will greatly improve the rate of success.

DON’T GET A DOG…UNLESS YOU CAN MAKE A COMMITMENT

Full credit Dogs Disclosed

In an ideal world dogs would be included as part of our family and we would commit to sharing our time and life with them.

In an ideal world, we would take the time to learn about how they communicate, their emotions, their needs and updated, modern, scientifically based methods to understand or modify behaviour.

In reality, dogs are so often seen as an item of property, a commodity to be bred and make money from, a cheap, replaceable security system with a built-in barking alarm, a garden decoration, a toy to play with when the kids are bored or an accessory that looks good while out walking, running or taking selfies.

Dogs are not objects, just like us they are sentient beings with the capacity to feel a range of emotions.

A life spent confined to a backyard or fenced in with little or no human companionship is not a life.

Dogs are naturally social beings and need to spend time with their human family.

They need love and attention, exercise and mental stimulation.

They need routine, consistency and predictable patterns to feel secure in our world.

They need to feel safe, secure and protected if they are to be the best version of themselves.

Having a dog requires commitment, patience and dedication.

It’s hard work, it’s sometimes messy, dirty and stinky, it costs money and requires changes to our lifestyle.

It’s a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly or without making a commitment, but the rewards of forming a secure bond with another sentient being can bring so much joy and enrichment to both our lives and theirs.

When taking your dog (or cat, though we doubt that's likely) to the beach, there are some dangers you should be aware of:

1) Sand impaction - the eating of sand through digging, picking up sandy toys with the mouth or simply ingesting sand may cause a blockage in the intestine.

2) Swimming in the sea - your dog may be swept away by strong currents or may drown if they become too tired to swim. Large waves which can tumble them are also a hazard.

3) Dead fish - if your dog tries to eat dead fish which have washed up on the beach, they may become seriously ill. The dead fish may be poisonous, or simply just rotten.

4) Salt poisoning - the salt, bacteria and parasites in the water can make them sick. Be sure to have enough fresh water on hand so your dog doesn't drink sea water!

5) Heat / sun dangers - In the Summer, your dog may burn their paws on hot sand, get sunburn or become overexerted due to high temperatures. Dogs with white fur, shorter hair or pink ears are especially susceptible to sunburn, so consider using a sunscreen made for dogs, or a sun jacket.

6) Foreign objects - Jellyfish and bluebottles may seriously hurt your dog, so keep an eye out for them. Also be mindful of discarded fish hooks, as they could stick into your dog's paws and get swallowed more often than you think. If you suspect your dog has swallowed a fish hook, contact us or the vet near where you are on holiday immediately. The hook can do serious damage and must be removed surgically as quickly as possible.

Save this post for the next time you go down to the beach!

You sweat to cool down and often you are not even aware that you are cooling down in this way.

Animals don't sweat to cool down. In fact, your pet can only sweat a little bit from their paws and noses.

Pets cool down by panting, drinking water and moving to a cooler place. Your experience of heat is different from theirs and it is important to remember that even when you may not think it is very hot - such as on a sunny Winter's day. Your pet may still need to follow strategies to regulate their body temperature while you look for a light jersey.

Smaller pets, senior pets, and brachycephalic breeds (short nosed breeds), like pugs and bulldogs, are especially prone to heat stress.

Pets can burn in the sun, especially those with short coats and light skin.

Heat stroke is a very real threat that’s lethal to thousands of pets each year.

Please make sure that your pet has access to a shady spot and plenty of cool, clean water during the day - whether out and about or at home.

Dogs don't just die in hot cars as a result of heatstroke. Exercise induced heatstroke, even in Winter, is a serious threat to dogs.

Here are a few things you should know:

1. Dogs don't sweat and the only way they can control body temperature is through panting. If they heat up faster than they can pant to cool down and their internal blood temperature reaches 41 degrees Celsius, a dog may die within minutes.

2. Short nosed dogs such as Bulldogs, Boxers and Pugs have restricted airflow to their lungs and are at much greater risk of overheating even when you think it is not possible.

3. Dogs that wear muzzles can't pant and are at great risk of overheating very quickly. If your dog must wear a muzzle, make sure it is of the basket type that allows for panting.

4. Dogs with dark coats are at greater risk as they heat up faster.

5. Overweight dogs suffer airway obstructions as a result of fat and can't pant as they should. This risk is compounded if the dog is a short nosed breed.

6. Dehydrated dogs may overheat faster than normal.

Exercise is a wonderful part of your dog's life. Knowledge is power and if you keep these few things in mind you are all set to help your dog lead a fit and happy life without the risk of overheating.
