We are the missing pet specialists! We have a team of highly trained handlers with awesome search K9s But, it’s not all about our K9 partners.

Healthy Hound is the original, most successful and most experienced missing pet unit in Africa. We have a team of dogs that are experienced in tracking dogs, cats, wildlife and more! Although based in Gauteng we have traveled to other provinces and have even had a callout to the Karoo as well as a callout to search for a dog on Table Mountain! e to help and guide you from the minute your pet has been found and we will not abandon you until your pet is found. We have been involved with the searching and rescue of some high profile dog and cat searches and have been in local and National news many times. But, it’s not all about the news making searches! Our little team started in August 2020 when K9 Zizou had a career change at 1yr old from anti poaching to missing pet search. From the beginning, she has excelled as a search dog, even in difficult circumstances. Subsequently we have trained up a bunch of other dogs and strive for continuous training for handlers and dogs alike. We do not rely on just one dog and will pick the right dog for the job. And we use other search methods too if they are needed. We like to take a holistic approach to searching. We also do not just search! We also perform rescues (including technical rescue) and do regular work in communities such as our snare walks and other initiatives. We have done some dramatic rescues and some amazing investigations which have resulted in great success. With a success rate that is comfortably over 85% and the fact that we also do rescues, it is the logical choice to contact us when a pet goes missing.

🌿🎯 Tracked Through the Thick of It!

Search dog Axl picked up her trail and led the way through some seriously thick veld — not far from home but impossible to spot without his nose. Her mom wasn’t sure at first, but with some expert advice from James on how to lure her, Annie came home safely.

🐾 Welcome home little Cleo!! 🏡

This little angel went missing whilst on a run with her dad. She got a fright from something and then it was appeared she may have been hit by a passing car. 🥺

We were called out and James and Zizou were there early yesterday morning. After a long, hard track, James concluded that she had been picked up but he was not giving up and swopped dogs and got Blue from home. Diane joined for a second opinion and the team checked again and Diane agreed it was a pickup. Posters were put up and Diane was going to return early this morning with more posters when we got the news that she was indeed picked up. The reason for the double check was the concern for if she had been hit and if she was injured somewhere.

A kind person had spotted her and tried catching her for 2hrs. That’s some serious determination!! Thank you to the kind person for helping and giving your time to help a pup.

We would have posted this earlier but we wanted to wait for her to be checked by the vet before posting. She is ok and it appears she was not hit by the car fortunately. However her paws are raw and cut open in places from the run. The vet has medicated her paws and wrapped them up. She has also been chipped. She is on 5 days rest then they will recheck the paws. No runs for her with dad for a while! 😢

We look forward to following her recovery journey.

🌟 Welcome Home, Zeus! 🐾
After a good few days of being missing, this naughty boy is finally back where he belongs — safe, warm, and surrounded by love. 🏡💛
Huge thanks to our incredible search dog Axl, whose nose led us right to Zeus’s secret hiding spot (first a truck yard 2 blocks away and we lured, then a Saturday he returned and tracked Zeus to the drain by their driveway). 🐶👃💥
Yesterday a very dirty Zeus walked into the house and demanded food and attention - he got both and he got a much needed bath!!

This reunion is what hope, teamwork, and a little bit of magic look like. ✨

George is home!! 🐈😻

George is the sidekick of his amazing human (who makes stunning jewellery and sells markets - if you are looking for a gift for mom, WhatsApp us and we will link you up with her) & is usually glued to her but decided that he needed to check out the neighbouring veld area and got carried away with his adventure.

Peanut & Diabe were called in and tracked him to this veld but he is skittish so when P gave her proximity alert, we backed off and told Mom to go sit and chill for a bit there. It worked. Not long after mom had chilled in the veld, George came home. He was a bit skinnier and really hungry but ok. Let’s hope he doesn’t scare his awesome mom Hilda again anytime soon!

This public holiday in South Africa stands as a day to honour the youth who got ambushed by the apartheid regime police in Soweto on this day in 1976. It serves as a reminder for current and future generations to stand up for unjust situations.

Today may be just one of the many days we get in this country but take a step back and remember the lives lost and the reminder for us all.

We encourage all to go have a day spent bonding with their furkids and kids. Share some photos of the day with us!

Welcome home Gus!!

This fluffy monster moved not so long ago and his mom did everything right but this boy still wanted an adventure. James and his best friend Axl went out and tracked the boy and told mommy that Gus was heading to their old home.

The boys were right. A few days later, Gus was found under a zozo hut at the old place. Carmen his mommy says it was quite the “palava” to get him out but he is safely at home now and will remain an indoor kitty.

🐅 Tigger the tiger is home!! 🐯

Most often kittens of this age are found in the house but this little adventure cat made a real escape and we were called in. Axl found him fairly quickly (he was actually seen!) but since his mommy was on holiday he was not coming out for his human sister!!

Luring was tried but this dude was not coming out without his mommy. We were on our way to do a follow-up with mom when he decided to come out of hiding. His mommy was home so he felt ok to come out again.

Sure, he would not come out but at least Axl showed the area he was hiding in and that he was not dead or stolen. Wellcome home feisty little 16 week old Tigger!

😻Noodles is Home!! 🏡

We were called out a week after this little one went missing and the boys went to search. After finding the area he was in, James gave them some advice which they followed to the letter!! Here is their words on how it went down:

““Our Noodle is home!

Noodle got tired of waiting for his parents to come home from a business trip in the cape, and opted to go out and look for them instead. James and Axl arrived a week after Noodle first didn’t come back home, and put everyone’s mind at ease. Knowing that his scent was still fresh and present in the complex surrounding his home reignited his family’s search efforts, who followed James’ advice on how to get Noodle back home. Two days later Noodle waltzed on in like nothing had happened!

😍 KATYA IS HOME!! 😻

This little kitty went missing not long after one of her cat siblings passed away and her family went on holiday.

Diane and Axl headed out and Axl showed a route the petsitter didn’t know existed! Axl got to a section of veld and his one ear went up and he went vocal. Katya was close!!! We opted to not go in as she is a bit nervous of dogs and is an excellent climber - we didn’t want to scare this kitty more.

Diane told the housesitter how to lure her home and he did exactly as asked and… a few hours later this little madam came home. She is now grounded until mom and dad come home from their holiday.
