To All Animal Lovers across South Africa,

We are a Live fish importer and exporter in Midrand Gauteng. Our holding facility is in Corporate Park North Midrand. We along with 5 other owners have buildings within a business park within Corporate Park North.

City of Johannesburg decided to remove our electricity Meter on Tuesday the 16th at around 15:15. This is due to an outstanding amount of 1 of the owners accounts. They state that notices was served but not to any of the current owners as the owner who is outstanding has been MIA for months and no movement has been seen at his building.

The problem we are left with is, yes we have solar and we have a back up generator. However, please see a Pic of our generator attached after it had to run non stop from the moment he removed the meter. The solar only works during the day and if we turn almost everything off at night and leave our fish with only oxygen we can get about 9 hours during the night on the battery which is not enough.

We have tropical fish (warm water), goldfish, marine fish and koi at our facility. We currently have about 800 fish tanks and 40 ponds with a stocking density of around 80% of the facilities capacity. That is equal to more than 50 000 fish in our facility at the moment.

After all this on the 16th we settled half of the outstanding bill to City of Johannesburg and agreed to settle the rest over 6-9months even if it is not our bill just to try and get power to ensure our fish stay alive and healthy. The City of Johannesburg then requested that we sign an AOD and after which they will come the next day to restore power. It is now the 18th of April 11:30 and we still have no power.

We have lost countless amounts of fish already and more to come. We had to cancel all incoming fish to not risk losing more fish or to put our facility under more pressure.

Our plea is how can City of Johannesburg do this to Animals and be so cruel to a living thing even after we took it on ourselves to pay a bill to ensure electricity is restored. We have made contact with the SPCA and countless other Individuals within the City of Johannesburg for assistance. With no answers or assistance provided. This is the country we live in. This is how we treat people and animals daily. It is sad to see how we have to just accept it.
