Getting a Cape Cobra contained/tubed...
Thanks Linda Joubert for the video.
• Puff Adder - Montagu area Holiday resort - 1 October 2019 •
When everything works out perfect!
I remove lots of snakes during snake season from a certain holiday resort outside Montagu. Hats off to Anneen Hoffman working there for getting the Puff Adder safely into a dustbin and then contacting me to come and remove and relocate it for them. Not the first time either... she got a juvenile Cape Cobra into a bin before and kept it in her office until i got there. Awesome people! This video is Anneen getting the Puff Adder into the bin and the second half is where i tube it to relocate the Puff adder for them once i got to the location.

When you THINK you can...
Painfull, expensive and stupid mistake!
Australian Red Bellied Black snake (venomous)
Tubing a Boomslang - Montagu Farm area
When callers do everything you ask them when you are on your way to them then everything will go easy. All you have to do is to watch the snake until the snake catcher get there. Nothing is as bad as getting to a caller's home and the poor snake have been harrassed and freaked out.
Egg-eater - Montagu Western Cape (Harmless)
All show but no go. These little snakes eat eggs and have no venom or even fangs to begin with. They put on a great show to scare you off and they will do that by rubbing their scales together and they will open their mouth to look dangerous and threatening.
Close call and the unpredictable behavior of Cape Cobras - Montagu Western Cape
Always and i mean ALWAYS keep your eyes on the snake you busy handling. When on calls and when you handle snakes so many things can distract you. People and bystanders with questions is but one example.
While removing a very calm Cape Cobra from someone's garden it suddenly reacted and striked at me. If my eyes weren't on the snake at that moment i would've taken a serious bite. Be safe and keep saving snakes.
• Amazing Striking capabilities of a Puff Adder - Montagu Western Cape •
After removing this Puff Adder from someone's lounge i took it outside to show their behaviour. I do this often on call outs because it is a good opportunity for education. I held the lid with my hand and paused... i decided it would be safer using my tongs. Wise decision!
You will see their ridiculously fast striking speed and also how they can lunge themself forward and strike from quite a distance away. This is also why i personally will never hook and tail Puff Adders.
Cape Cobra vs Puff Adder (Not my video)
Another example of a Cape Cobra and a Puff Adder. Although the Puff Adder is one of the fastest striking snakes in the world it stands no chance against the agility and potent neurotoxic venom of a Cape Cobra.

Cape Cobra vs Puff Adder (Not my video)
When it is between a Cape Cobra and a Puff Adder... one will end up food every time.
• Herald Snake bite (chewing) •
While catching a little Herald snake this morning it wanted to bite as i picked it up. I held my sleeve and it immediately latched on and started chewing. After a few seconds it let go and then it was totally relaxed in my hands.
• "Neuro" my captive Cape Cobra •
Just to show the attitude of Cape Cobras. It doesn't matter if you have raised them in captivity from birth... they will remain wild and defensive. Hands down one of the most defensive snake species in Africa.
