These last couple months have been very challenging with cases we would never dream of experiencing.

We currently have 150 dogs and 30 puppies in our care.

Last year, we had over 20 cases of Parvo. The strength of the Parvo virus was ruthless and despite all intervention to help these puppets who had come from various horrible circumstance and conditions, we lost 7 pups, but rescued 13 of the 20 cases. This came a cost of a huge vet bill.

Nothing made us happier to see many of these babies go into good homes.

Sadly vet bills are ongoing and we have had to pay cash upfront for treatments, vaccinations, sterilisation and so on. This has not been easy.

We have put together various fund raisers and this is one we have particularly looked forward to, which despite numerous advertising on social media platforms it hasn’t been well supported.

The reviews have been spectacular and we put every effort into our fundraising and our raffle prizes.

So we will give this one more try, failing which we will have no choice to CLOSE our doors to new admissions of any sort until such time as we have reduced our vet bill considerably.
It is currently sitting at R75 000,00.

BITTEN BY VET BILLS

The Blue Bundu Brigade has served the community of greater Durban, KZN since February 2019.
We rescue, rehabiliate and rehome mostly puppies and dogs, but we have on more than several occasions assisted with kitten, cats and birds.

During the COVID PERIOD, DURBAN KZN LOOTING and KZN FLOODS our work has increased due to homes been lost, people emigrating, and people down sizing.

Unfortunately, donations are minimal due to the rising living costs in South Africa.

We have tried various fundraisers to try settle our vet bills.
When we take in pups and dogs, it comes at a cost.
These dogs usually come from poor informal settlements where the pups or dogs haven't received basic veterinary care.
Pups come to us very sick and we endeavor to do our very best to get them well and healthy before rehoming them.

Our pups usually suffer from an incredible overload of worm infestation often making them very ill, poor malnutrition, cocidia and parvo.
We have had pups with glaucoma resulting in blindness, removal of an eye due to an injury resulting in a severe eye infection, a rupture anterior cruciate ligament, fading puppy syndrome, megaoesophagus and the list goes on.

We ensure each pup and dog that comes into our care is fully vetted, sterilised and healthy before going to its new home.

There are times that people within the community ask for our assistance. We review each case and assist the best way we can. Often these requests are very sick or severely injuried pups or dogs.

We have had to close our doors to taking in any new strays as our vet bills are sitting at an all time high of R45 000,00.

Despite instituting this action, we have had two cases we were asked to assist with because no one else would help. A lactating mom and her pups of which two had already been removed. We were financially assisted with this case. Our second case was a malnutrished underweight dog who has a severe case of biliary. We were assisted with specialised dog food for this boy.

We are appealing for your help to donate whatever you are comfortable donating to assist us in settling our bills as much as possible.

By helping us, we can in turn help the animals that come into our care.

Every animal deserves a second chance in life. Their lives matter too!

We would truly appreciate your assistance.

Thanking you in advance.

I am so sick and tired of people giving up their animals without reason.

Please note I am generalising in the below post it is not meant for any particular person.

Think about this before you say u no longer want an animal,

Would u do the same to your kids? If no, why not?
We are meant to provide unconditional love, support, care, protection and medical care to our kids, SO WHAT MAKES YOUR PET DIFFERENT?

ITS SIMPLE, do not get a pet just for show or because your kids thought it's cute or because your property needs a guard,

Yes circumstances change, it's understandable in some cases. But ask for help. Dont let the first thought be that u no longer want the pet.
There is help out there just ask.
Do not get a pet if u cannot afford or is not willing to spay or neuter them, yes the puppies are cute but think of how your body would react to have babies after baby every few months, take into consideration the mother dogs feelings, the added cost of extra vet care that she would require during her pregnancy and care of the pups after their birth.

Don't get an animal as a Christmas gift because he's cute,it also has a life and needs to be cared for like your child.

There are many instances were pets are abused and/or neglected because u no longer want them.

THINK BEFORE GETTING A PET, IT ALSO HAS A LIFE AND DESERVES THE BEST LIKE OUR CHILDREN.

I currently have 13 dogs in my foster care, from different circumstances, I love all of them. I give attention to each one of them as I give my kids. I treat them no different to my children.

I can't erase their past but I will make sure they have a great future.

I cannot emphasize enough how much thought must be put I to getting a pet.

There are lots of dogs requiring a stable environment and family. Thorough home checks are done.

Today I took my toddlers for a walk. Just on our road. We live on a dead end. As we are returning home all my fosters furbabies and my own are waiting at the gate for us, my little boy says, "mummy look all the dogs are waiting for us" I said to him, they are our best friends, not even a human will wait for us that way.

Give me dogs anytime.

Hi all sorry for being quiet. I have been down with the terrible flu that is refusing to leave us. But my good friend advised us to take honey in hot water, and it worked better than any medication and we feel much better.
