Just a shout out to my returning kitties for the month of July 2024.🥳

Thank you to my clients for entrusting your furbabies with me again, and making Catopia Cat Boarding your preferred cattery.🤗🤗🤗

We celebrated a one year anniversary with our Bots (Tim & Tom), Bandit, Silver & Simpkins from one family, for being the pillar of Catopia and all we stand for. They have been through all the upgrading, moved from cubicle to catio and back to accommodate our growth over this past year. Endured the noise, disturbance, the busy traffic of visitors in and out, made new friends and foes with the other guests, however been our best hosts for our venue and tolerated so much with us.

Finally going to her new home was our Chunky Monkey Chloe, who has settled in well at home with mom and her doggy sister Lucy (welcome home Chloe).

Revisiting us we had Cindy and Mia. Who both from different families, showed this time they were far more relaxed and have remembered their suites.

Cindy a very anxious girl (who was here for a short stay the first time and froze and hide throughout her stay) is now climbing and exploring and comes when called (amazing progress), Mia who was abit growly the first stay, very cautious and mistrusting but settled in, this time is a playful girl who loves affection and attention 🥰🥰🥰

So blessed to share my cattery with these precious babies, and anyone that knows me, knows that these babies will always be family to me.

Welcome to Catopia Braedy

Braedy was brought to us as a feral for TNR (Feeding Our Ferals KZN NPC).
She has been cared for and feed by the tenants in the business complex, whose hearts she has won over. Upon her arrival after been trapped, it became evident to me that she was tame. Following her spay and vaccinations on Wednesday, she was set to recover with us until Monday (today), after which she would be released back to the office block.

After lengthy discussions with Ingrid, one of her feeders, I explained that releasing her as a feral would be cruel when we could try our best to find her a home. There are currently no homes available, but it would be heart-wrenching to consign her to a feral life alone. Braedy is a sweet little girl, friendly yet hesitant at first. Once she realizes you’re coming for a head rub or ear scratch, she happily leans in, trusting and affectionate. How could we sleep peacefully knowing we sent her back?

Ingrid has kindly offered to cover her boarding costs at Catopia Cat Boarding. Ingrid has visited her almost everyday since last week and showering her with her own goodies and bed and blankets and toys and food (very spoilt little munchkin).
We are reaching out to you, our supporters, to share this post and help extend her search for the perfect home. I can only rehome her within Durban area (I would prefer local though), as home checks and an adoption contract are part of the Ts&Cs.
Please understand that I will always act in her best interest, and the final decision on her adopter will be made with her needs in mind only.

I encourage meet and greets to give you a feel for Braedy and see how you connect with her. Feel free to send me a WhatsApp to arrange a meeting. Tabbies are my absolute weakness, and I have two amazing tabbies, including Braedy, who need the perfect home. She has been spayed and vaccinated, and I will ensure her booster is done within the next month. Please share and help us find a loving home for this beautiful furkit.

🎉 Happy One-Year Anniversary to Our Wonderful Kitty Boarders! 🎉
(The Bots) Tom & Timmy, Bandit, Silver & Simpkins

We are thrilled to celebrate one year with our beloved kitty boarders here at Catopia Cat Boarding. It has been an incredible journey filled with purrs, cuddles, and countless memorable moments.
Mum has been in Northern Ireland trying to find and prepare a home for her furbabies. It has been a stressful journey and quiet an adjustment. Imagine not seeing your babies for so long. Cant imagine the anxiety and emptiness of not having her babies home. 😪
But mum knows they are settled into their second home away from home at Catopia Cat Boarding and she gets updates on her babies. While mom is preparing for their final destination and new home, they will soak up whatever sun we have this winter and laze about all day as cats do.
Catopia wouldn't be what it is without these wonderful hosts. They have been exemplary in showing off to new guests, how happy, relaxed and stress free they are at Catopia. They have taught me so much in my journey, and have become a huge part of my life and extended family of furkits.
To say that when they leave our shores for their happy reunion with mum, they will be leaving behide a very big hole in my heart and empty space here at Catopia. But we are not going to dwell on that and enjoy the time we have with them and love them unconditionally anyways.❤❤❤❤❤

To all our feline guests and their wonderful families, thank you for trusting us with your precious fur babies. Here's to many more years of providing a loving, safe, and fun environment for all our Catopia Cat Boarding kitties!

Many people know that I am a strong advocate for keeping cats indoors. The benefits of indoor living far outweigh the cons. While I have had numerous debates with strangers on social media who question how I can take away a cat’s freedom or prevent them from being "true" cats, my stance is based on extensive experience in rescue, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), and numerous daily situations I encounter.

My sanctuary cats are content as "indoor cats," with indoor meaning they are not allowed to free roam. They have ample freedom within the various catios I have built around my home, providing them with a true cat haven within the safety of enclosed spaces.

The purpose of this post is not to debate the merits of catios, but rather to highlight their benefits and to promote my builder, Thulani, who has constructed every one of my catios to my specifications. Thulani is highly professional, ethical, and has been a saving grace for me. He has learned so much as we have worked together on this journey. If you are considering building a catio without spending a fortune, Thulani is the builder you need. He is extremely affordable and can make your dream of a safe catio come true. However his talents also extend further than just catios, he also has extended my cubicles and done other building projects.

While materials are not cheap, we know a few places where we can acquire them at fair prices. All you need are purlins, battens, weld mesh, a few screws, washers, and maybe some roof sheets. Please take advantage of Thulani's expertise and prioritize your kitties' safety from the many dangers outside.

Welcome to Catopia Cat Boarding, Socks!
We are delighted to introduce Socks, our big black and white tuxedo boy, who has joined us for a little vacation. Socks went missing for three weeks when his parents moved house from Danville to Waterfall, and thankfully, he was found and is now safely with us while his family are abroad.
Although still traumatized from his ordeal, Socks is well-known as an escape artist. We have taken extra precautions to ensure his safety and comfort, reinforcing some of our mesh and to keep a close eye on him.

As a dedicated advocate for animal rescue, I firmly believe in the "Adopt, Don’t Shop" philosophy.

However, we decided to go and support the Let's Fiesta Cat Show in Hillcrest. Sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition

After meeting some of the responsible breeders who have also adopted rescues into their hearts and homes, its was really great to meet their furbabies.

And yes rescue is my favorite breed, but I appreciate the majestic beauty of ALL cats and find it fascinating to see all different breeds up close and personal.

Congratulations to these breeders; your show cats are truly stunning. It is heartening to see that some of these beautiful cats are sterilized and kept as show cats rather than being used for breeding.

While there are many kitties in need of homes, it is reassuring to know that these gorgeous cats have loving owners and wonderful homes. However, my heart was particularly captured by Bazil, a rescued tabby. My affection for tabbies and rescue cats will always prevail.
Kate from Mc Kitty Cat Rescue of course would be in love with the black Norwegian Forest Boy (such a placid kitty).

🐾Welcome Chunny & Jinx to Catopia Cat Boarding! 🐾

We are thrilled to welcome our newest guests, Chunny and Jinx. They are originally all the way from India (our own little foreigners). These two adorable cats have traveled a long way to South Africa, and now their parents are in the transition of moving home. They are just waiting for the transfer and all the legalities to go through. But mom doesn’t want to stress out her furbabies, as this is a very disruptive move for kitties and as we know they don’t do well to change of environment. So mom wants this move to be as smooth for them as possible. Welcome little ones, and we are committed to making their stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Farewell, Sweet Sushi💔🌈

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of our beloved Sushi’s passing over the rainbow bridge. Despite our best efforts to help him get through this, he began to decline and stopped eating on Friday. We tried everything: special foods, tuna, appetite stimulants, and Cerenia for his nausea, but nothing seemed to help. It seems Sush just missed his brother KitKat too much and decided he had lived a good life and was ready to rest now.

Early this morning, Sush had a seizure that drained his energy and his body seemed to be in pain. He also had an insatiable thirst after his ordeal and our best could no longer be made comfortable without causing him distress. Natalie, his loving mommy, and I made the heartbreaking decision that it was time to let him go, not wanting him to suffer any longer.

Sush Our Champ crossed over the rainbow bridge peacefully and quickly. Words cannot describe the devastation I am feeling, and I can only imagine the heartache his family is enduring. Our hearts break for them. Thank you to his family for sharing Sush with us, we are honoured to have been a small part of this extraordinary boy's life.

🕊Rest in peace🕊, beautiful soul, Sush, aka Doodle Loodle. The silence without you is deafening. Send us signs, my boy🪽; we will be looking for them.

Welcome Mia to Catopia!

We are thrilled to introduce our newest guest, Mia, to the Catopia family! 🐾

Mia is a beautiful, yet very shy little girl who has never been to a cattery before, making everything feel a bit overwhelming. We reassured her mom and dad that Mia will need 24-48 hours to decompress and acclimate to her new surroundings. After tucking her into her blankets last night, we were greeted with a morning meow today.

Although Mia is still a bit nervous about venturing out into the catio, we've brought everything inside to make her feel more comfortable. She has explored her cubicle and discovered several cozy spots to sleep or hide.

While Mia’s parents take a short break, we are honored they chose Catopia Cat Boarding to care for and love their precious Mia. We are dedicated to making her stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, providing her with lots of love and attention.

A Tale of Tears: Joy and Sorrow Intertwined

How do I begin to describe the mixture of tears that have filled my eyes—tears of joy and tears of deep sorrow? Sushi, one of our beloved regular guests, was booked in with us on Sunday, June 2nd. His mom had noticed that he had lost a significant amount of weight and wasn't his usual self. Sushi was eating very little, lethargic, withdrawn, and seemed depressed. With his mom's permission, we arranged for Sushi to be examined by one of our trusted vets.
Sushi's mom was on her way to Swaziland for important meetings that couldn't be cancelled, and with her busy schedule running an AirBnB, taking Sushi back and forth was not feasible. Trusting us implicitly, she left him in our care, knowing we would provide the best possible attention.
We took Sushi to Megan at Vet On Main one of our preferred veterinarians with whom we have an amazing relationship. Megan's expertise was exactly what Sushi needed. She admitted him immediately and ran initial blood tests to check his kidney parameters—SDMA, urea, and creatinine levels. The results were alarming; Sushi's levels were off the charts, indicating severe kidney issues that were making him nauseous and unwilling to eat.
Megan also discovered a heart murmur and ran a ProBNP test, which showed elevated levels, indicating that Sushi was essentially in heart failure. The complexity of his condition, balancing kidney treatment while managing his heart issues, required careful and slow administration of IV fluids under strict supervision to avoid his chest filling with fluid. His treatment was agreed upon that we run his fluids for 96 hours minimum to get the best possible results for flushing his kidney parameters.
Throughout the week, I visited Sushi often, spending as much time as I could with him, letting him know he was loved and that we were all praying for his recovery. He was such a good boy, the best patient Megan had seen in a while, showing no signs of stress and bravely enduring his treatment. I couldn't have been more proud of him.
On Tuesday, one week later, we made plans to discharge him. To our amazement, his kidney readings had improved dramatically, moving into the normal range, though still on the high side, but thrilled with the outcome. Sushi was prescribed lifelong heart medication and a special diet (Hills k/d j/d) to support his kidneys and help with his potassium levels, which affect his hind legs stiffness. He responded phenomenally well to his treatment, and now we focus on managing his condition, ensuring he stays hydrated, eats well, and attending follow-up appointments to monitor his progress.
I am beyond thrilled and grateful to have Megan on our side. Her thoroughness and guidance throughout Sushi's treatment and prognosis have been invaluable. Sushi has taught me a powerful lesson about resilience and the importance of never giving up, even in the face of severe illness. His mom is overjoyed that her "Doodle Loodle" is doing so well. My prayers have been answered, prolonging Sushi's life and giving us more time with this extraordinary cat.
Thank you to Megan and her team for their exceptional support and care in treating Sushi, and making him feel so much better. This journey has been filled with profound emotions, but seeing Sushi's recovery brings an overwhelming sense of gratitude and hope for this old man, whom we have grown to love as one of our own at Catopia.

Welcome to Catopia, Little Star! 🌟

We are delighted to introduce you to our newest guest, Star, who has joined us at Catopia Cat Boarding. Star is still a kitten, with the softest nature and a sweet, silent demeanor—we haven't heard a meow from him yet! Unfortunately, Star's parents are emigrating and won't be able to take him with them. During their short time abroad, Star is boarding with us only for a short period, and we have offered to also network him on our page and helping to find him the perfect new home.

Star is an indoor kitten who loves being around people and we think he will adjust to other fur babies (with proper introductions). We are getting to know his charming personality and are confident that he will make a wonderful addition to a loving family. Ideally, we would prefer his new home to be an indoor kitty home or to have access to a secure catio, as he is not street-savvy.
