If you suspect that your pet could have been stolen from your home, please do the following to assist us to help you find them.

Please go directly to your nearest police station for a statement of theft and case number

Please use this report as a guideline for information needed to report the case at the Spca and send the case number, completed report and photographs to your nearest Spca.

Stolen Dog Awareness

Please assist us with creating awareness of the public

To keep their dogs at the back of the house, not in the front for they could easily be poisoned or be stolen

To MICROCHIP their dogs

To be aware of any strange vehicles, people or children in their neighbourhood

To report it to their security infrastructure in their area to keep a close eye on these intruders

Distribute pamphlets and advertise on Notice Boards, at Vets, Animal Rescue and Welfare organisations and schools, any organisation that is willing to assist with the awareness and to locate your dog.

Place a board on your front lawn showing that your dog is missing in case your neighbours or passer bys have seen something

Do not put awareness on notice boards on your lost/stolen dogs photo and contact number

Distribute awareness pamphlets in post boxes of your area and also vets, organisations, security companies and neighbourhood watches in the areas.

Never put up a reward amount, for this will put you in danger for criminal actions

LOST AND FOUND PETS

During the December holidays and new years every year I see lots of pets that are lost during this time. I would like to remind everyone of the steps you can take to find your pet.

Firstly Contact the Vets and your local Spca. Always go and have a look at the Spca yourself. They get so many stray animals in that a human error could easily happen I have seen it personally happen quite a few times.

Secondly post on all the lost and found Facebook and WhatsApp groups a clear photo of your pet, when your pet got lost, which area, and add your contact number as well. Also if you put a reward out some people are more eager to help look for your pet.

Thirdly make a poster of your pet with all the above information of your pet and put the posters up the Vets, Spca and local shops and community centres

Lastly to help others that might find your pet microchip your and add a name tag on their collar with their name and your contact number.

To those who find a lost animal please always check if the animal is microchipped at the Vets or Spca. They do not charge a fee to check if the dog is chipped.

Put a post on social media and Whatsapp group and always make sure the person who claims the pet has proof it is their pet.

Did you know that dogs can get heat stroke, just like people? Here’s how to keep your pets cool in summer’s soaring temperatures:

• Keep your dog hydrated with cool, fresh water

• Provide shady outdoor resting areas

• Give your long-haired pups a trim

• Don’t leave your dog in the car. It heats up quickly, even when windows are left open
