The brutal truth of what our primates have to endure across the country!
Very sad that this is the next generation of SA.

A few days ago we posted an update on the location of Raygun the baboon. He had safely navigated his way through the suburbs and industrial areas of Pretoria and had finally reached an agricultural area full of crop farms and game reserves.
He was in our opinion in safe territory.
Sadly he made a wrong turn 40km further on his adventure and landed up on the roof of a Secondary School just outside of Delmas.
The learners at the school decided it was a fun idea to brutally stone and kick him. They tied him up with wire, placed car tyres around his body and set him alight. He burnt to death.
We went out early this morning to see if we could locate and retrieve his body, but when we arrived our presence attracted a lot of unwanted attention and Flash and Freckles, being the voice of reason, convinced us to leave promptly.
We then waited a few kilometers down the road for twenty minutes for the small crowd to disperse. We weighed up the options and decided that if we drove really quickly, we could pick Raygun up, what was left of him, and get out of there. So, this is what we did.
According to some residents, a witch doctor came through last night and cut his hands and head off, and then cut his chest open and took out his heart. We buried his remains earlier today under a Marula tree on the Sanctuary.
We failed him terribly. We are deeply saddened for the way Raygun was ripped from this world. His death serves as a stern reminder to us of the work we still have left to do to protect wild animals and what a far way the youth needs to come to learn respect and appreciation for other living beings.

It has been a very long and tough year, 20 babies this season so far, 8 juveniles, and who knows how many rescues 💔
Please, for 2025, be more considerate of wildlife and more careful on our roads and remember always that primates are not pets. They belong with their own kind, so PLEASE do the right thing.
Here is to a safer and happier year for our primates 🥂🐒

Niles 🩵
An emergency call on a Sunday, this little boy clinging to his momma as she was hit by a car 💔 his forefinger was missing, but luckily, he was ok. Rushed him to the amazing vets 9th Avenue Veterinary Clinic Walmer who cleaned him up and treated him 🙏 Niles is doing well and has recovered beautifully. He is with 2 other newbies that came in in the past week, while they settle in 🐒❤️

Nutmeg 💙
He was found on his dead mommy on the road and was very dehydrated and weak 😔 he went to the vet for fluids and has really come a long way in the past 2 to 3 weeks. He loves his friends, especially Ned, and eats like a champion 😁 well done little dude, we promise to give you the best chance at a new life 💙🐒

This boy was alone for a few days while we made arrangements to get him to us. He was found alone.... His little brow already showing means he is older than the other babies and had more time with his real mom 💔 he is wary but takes comfort in the other babies 🐒

My apologies. I'm a bit behind with our updates.
Nadia was quite traumatized when she came in and only comes to you for comfort or at sleep time 💔 she is doing well though and is now playing nicely with Nolene, Ned and Nutmeg, who i will post about soon 🐒

Nolene 🩷
We think Nolenes mom was shot, don't always get to the bottom of the story. She was kept as a pet for a while and then bought into MM.
She is a clingy tot but has slowly but surely started to settle down 😊
She loves her milk and food and is super curious with all the toys and playgyms.
You are safe now little one 🐒❤️

This little girl was found on the side of the road, near Addo, all by herself.
She is petrified of humans and prefers the companionship of the other monkeys. She loves porridge and is doing much better now 🐒

Nicky 🩵
I am a very gentle soul and have only started to settle down over the past couple of days 😔
He wouldn't take a bottle at all and had to be syringe fed to keep his hydration up and keep him alive. We kept on trying, and finally, after 5 days, he latched and is now drinking like a champion. He is happier, more content, and starting to enjoy life again 🩵

Nina 🩷
This little girl was kept as a pet in dire circumstances. We managed to arrange for one of our contacts close by to help her, and fortunately, she was successful. Lisa, Thank you for all you did for Nina, it is really appreciated.
She is full of beans now she is with the others and plays up a storm with Neil 🐒😊 she is the sweetest little girl with so much love to give ❤️

Neo 💙
This tiny tot is Neo, he was found crying alone on a farm, the people left him for about an hour watching to see if his mamma would come but she never did 💔 he arrived a few days ago and is about a week old. He is drinking well and is a strong little champ. He spends most of his time with Nathan as Neil and Nevi are too busy for him 🐒 😊

Nevaeh 💔
We received an urgent call regarding a baby monkey, who was badly dehydrated and malnourished due to a person holding onto her and not having a cooking clue how to feed or care for a monkey, so basically being selfish and starving this poor baby!! We rushed out and got the baby and tried all we could to save her, but severe malnutrition and dehydration had already taken its toll 😔
PLEASE, if you find injured or orphaned primates, do the right thing and call us. Call people who know what they are doing instead of being selfish and actually doing more harm than good!
I'm so sorry we didn't get to you sooner, little one 💔🐒

This little boys mommy was shot 💔 fortunately he was saved before anything happened to him. He is a spunky little boy who has settled beautifully with the other babies and loves to play 🐒 his porridge is the high light of his day and he makes sure to get it all over his face 😊

Nathan 💙
The boys are dominating this year. Nathan was found alone on a farm, well that's what we were told 💔 only a few days old, weak and fragile.
After a few days of warmth, love, care and the correct nutrition he has grown stronger and the life is back in his eyes 🐒 he is a littly so has mini social dates with Neville who has reached the tantrum milestone 🙌 all Babies are doing well. Will share some clips of them soon 😊

I am Nelson 🩵🐒
And he owns it 😁 his mom was caught in a snare and died 😔 luckily he was saved and arrived a few days ago. He is an energizer bunny and has settled beautifully.
Please remember the sooner they are brought to us the better, holding on because they are cute can be very detrimental to any primate. It may seem like you are helping, but in fact, you are making things worse for them. All the changing hands and diet changes are no good, and they belong with their own kind. Monkeys are not babies and do not belong in nappies. Please do the right thing.

This little boy lost his mom when she was hit by a car 😔 he has a little cut on his head but is doing well. He is about a week old and is missing his mom 💔
Thank you to the caring Vets who helped him and swiftly sent him to us to join the other orphans. He has settled well 🐒🩵
