Interesting fact.
Animals in colder climates tend to be larger and have shorter extremities to conserve heat. In rabbits, those born in winter may have shorter ears compared to those born in summer. This adaptation helps them retain body heat in colder temperatures, while longer ears in summer-born rabbits can aid in dissipating heat. This is an interesting example of how environmental factors can influence physical traits in animals! The phenomenon is related to the concept of Bergmann's and Allen's rules in biology.

Tomatoes and Rabbits:

Ripe tomatoes are generally safe for rabbits in small quantities. They provide a source of hydration and contain vitamins A and C, along with potassium and antioxidants. When feeding tomatoes, it’s important to introduce them slowly into a rabbit's diet, ensuring they do not cause any digestive issues. Always wash the tomato thoroughly and remove any stems or leaves before serving.

While the fruit of the tomato is safe, other parts of the tomato plant are not. The green parts of the plant, including leaves, stems, and unripe green tomatoes, contain solanine, a toxic compound that can be harmful to rabbits. Symptoms of solanine poisoning can include lethargy, digestive upset, and in severe cases, even death. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep rabbits away from the entire plant and only offer the safe, ripe fruit.
