🐾 Update on Lexy the Puppy With A Broken Leg 🐾

Yesterday we took Lexy to the vet for a full checkup. Despite his injury the vet confirmed that he is still healthy. They believe his leg wound is quite old likely a few weeks old. Unfortunately as he grows the damaged leg will become too heavy for him and he will eventually need an amputation.

We also made sure Lexy received his vaccinations to keep him protected. Yesterday he was a bit weak but today he is full of energy and already running around. This little fighter has such a strong spirit.

🚨 URGENT RESCUE: INJURED PUPPY FOUND AT SOSHANGUVE CEMETERY 🚨

We just rescued a helpless puppy at Soshanguve Cemetery after receiving a call from a kind passerby. The puppy was limping and sadly it looks like one of its legs has been cut off. Despite the pai, this little soul is still fighting to survive.

We are rushing the puppy to the vet for urgent medical attention. A huge thank you to Tebogo for making the call and ensuring the puppy found safety in our hands.

🚨 Emergency Rescue: Dog Trapped in a Sewage Drain! 🚨

Today we responded to an urgent call on behalf of the SPCA, as their inspector was tied up with another emergency. A helpless dog had been trapped in a sewage drain since yesterday and time was running out.

Without hesitation our brave rescuer Boiki stepped up for the mission. Wearing a harness, he carefully navigated inside the drain while we prepared to pull him and the dog to safety. It was a tense and challenging rescue but with determination and skill, Boiki successfully freed the dog! Both he and the poor dog emerged covered in dirt, but safe at last.

As the SPCA driver was present,We took the fur baby to the SPCA vehicle,They are now on their way. Though this was not our case, we were honored to assist in getting this fur baby rescued in time.

Genet Cat Rescue Mission at M**s Mall – A Success!

After more than 5 hours of effort, we finally managed to rescue the genet cat. We first tried to catch him at the top of the tree but he escaped and ran into a furniture store.

A huge thank you to Brendan and his amazing fur baby Flash from Owl Rescue Centre Jackie and the mall management, and the security guards for all their help. Special thanks to Jackie and her team for ensuring the genet cat safety by barricading the area before we arrived.

In the end it was a successful rescue. The cat is now safe and it was incredible working alongside such dedicated people. Brendan it was an honor rescuing with you!

Genet cat Rescue Attempt at M**s Mall

Just received a call about a genet cat trapped in a tree at M**s Mall (Mamelodi mall). I rushed over and immediately asked them to barricade the area to prevent noise or disturbance if the lemur gets scared, it might run away and put itself in more danger.

I’ve been trying to get help from vets and wildlife organizations, but so far, no luck. If anyone knows an expert who can assist with safely capturing and relocating it, please reach out!

We need to act fast to ensure its safety. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A Heartfelt Thank You to Gertina for Adopting Scruffy

Yesterday was a bittersweet day as we said goodbye to Scruffy, one of the dogs who held a special place in my heart. She was incredibly close to me and when I dropped her off, she wanted to follow me back something that made this farewell even harder. Usually I let my drivers handle drop-offs because I get too emotionally attached.

Gertina thank you for opening your heart and home to this beautiful soul. Knowing that she will be loved and cared for brings me so much comfort. They renamed her Lunah, Wishing you and Lunah endless happiness together.

Heartbreaking Neglect: A Reminder About Responsible Pet Surrender

On Friday afternoon, a woman arrived at our shelter with her dog and, instead of knocking and speaking to us, she threw the poor dog over our fence. Thankfully, one of our workers saw her and immediately confronted her. We explained that proper surrender procedures must be followed and, unfortunately, due to being completely full, we could not take in any more dogs. We advised her to take the dog to other shelters, as she had transport. Fortunately, we also took photos of her.

She agreed to do so but to our disappointment we discovered the awful truth the next morning. A neighbor two plots away called to inform us of a dog tied to a tree crying. Boiki rushed to the scene and, to our heartbreak it was the same dog.

This innocent soul was abandoned in the most cruel way. If she had just been honest, we could have helped her find a solution. It is devastating to see such disregard for an animal’s well-being.

We urge the public: If you are struggling to care for your pet, please reach out for help in a responsible manner. Throwing a dog over a fence or tying them to a tree is not the solution.

Monkey Sightings in the Townships

This morning we received a call from a school in Attridgeville about a monkey spotted on the premises. We monitored him from early in the morning as he moved from one school to another. While we were waiting for the vet to arrive and dart him safely the monkey suddenly disappeared and we lost track of him. Unfortunately we have no idea where he ended up.

Shortly after we received another call about a monkey in Mamelodi and we are currently on our way to attend to the case.

Interestingly all the monkeys that appear in the townships seem to look the same. Could it be there is a family of monkeys moving from place to place, or are more monkeys struggling to find their way back to the forest?

Monkey Update – Safe in the Forest!

We did our best to locate the monkey and fortunately, he made his way to the forest, where I believe he will be much safer. Hopefully he finds his way back to his natural habitat without further trouble.

I also went house to house speaking with residents and children explaining that if they see the monkey again, they must not harm him and should call me instead. I left them with my contact details to ensure they know who to reach out to in case he returns.

🚨 Monkey in Ga-Rankuwa – Trying to Ensure Its Safety

I just got a call about a monkey spotted in Ga-Rankuwa township. I rushed there immediately worried that the community might harm him out of fear or misunderstanding. By the time I arrived the monkey had climbed to the top of a tree. Some residents had already threatened him with fireworks which scared him off and now he's running through different yards.

I'm doing my best to locate him and ensure his safety before anything happens. If anyone in the area spots him, please DO NOT chase or scare him just let me know his location so I can monitor the situation and get the right help if needed.

A Special Visit from MMC of Health Cllr Tshegofatso Mashabela

On Thursday we had the honor of welcoming MMC of Health Cllr Tshegofatso Mashabela from the City of Tshwane, along with her colleagues to our shelter. A huge thank you to Mapotsa Poopedi for recommending our shelter and making this visit possible.

As a small shelter we truly appreciate the recognition and support from leaders like the MMC. With their demanding schedules and important responsibilities it means a lot that they took the time to visit us and engage with our mission.

During our discussions we focused on expanding outreach and awareness programs particularly in townships and schools. We firmly believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of animal cruelty and neglect. By teaching children and communities about responsible pet ownership, we can create a future where animals are treated with kindness and respect.

This is an exciting step forward for our shelter as education remains our top priority. We look forward to working together to make a real difference in the lives of both people and animals.

A Difficult Rescue 😞

It has been days of trying to rescue a dog on a busy road, and this has been one of the most challenging rescues I have ever come across. The dog sleeps right next to the road, clearly exhausted and in pain, as I’ve noticed he is limping. But every time I try to catch him, he panics and runs straight into oncoming traffic. My biggest fear is that he might get chased by cars and not make it out alive.

In the townships many dogs roam the streets because owners do not have proper fencing. That is why our first and most important requirement for adopting a dog is having a secure yard with proper fencing or a wall. Without it more dogs will continue to end up in dangerous situations like this one hungry, injured and at risk of being hit by cars.
