If you are looking for a place to take your dog, thats secure and devoid of other dogs and people, then Wander Land is the place to go. Although in that sense Lycan has no issues (he's quite content to share neutral places with strangers both dog or human).
This is a great place to take a reactive dog and let them run around off leash and have loads of fun.
You can see Lycan had a blast. He really enjoyed his visit.
You can easily find Wander Land through Facebook. Just type it into the search bar.

Before you pass judgement purely on the title of this video I advise you watch it. Robert gives a no nonsense and very truthful view on the subject. I am in complete agreement with him having met very dangerous dogs myself.

Are you poisoning your dog?
Rainy season = tick season. So dog owners are giving their dogs what they think are tick & flea preventives.

I'm going to share my 5c on this - love me or hate me, but I'm trying to look out for your dog. If nothing else, I will look out for and protect my dog with common sense and logic. It's a bit of a read, but be patient, learn and possibly save your dog's life!

So all these preventatives are given to the dog either topically or orally. These preventives are pesticides, neurotoxins. This poison is now spread over the skin of the dog leeching into the dogs skin and blood or, if given orally, coursing through the inside of your dog's body.
What no one tells you is that these so called tick & flea medicines actually do not prevent a tick or flea from biting your dog!
The only way these pesticides can kill a parasite is if the parasite bites your dog and drinks the poisoned blood/bites the poisoned skin. So if a disease infected tick bites your medicated with pesticides dog, your dog can still get tick fever, biliary etc. And after biting and infecting the dog, the now poisoned tick falls off.

Soooooo, how do these toxic meds, so called preventatives, actually prevent ticks, fleas or any associated diseases and problems?
They do not!! And what do you think all this poison is doing to your dogs?
I refuse to poison my dog, taxing his immune system with neurotoxins, pesticides, when they cannot prevent parasites from biting him anyway.
Whose dumb idea was this anyway?!
I've come across many accounts of side-effects of these meds, two are sometimes seizure, even death. Many side effects are irreversible. Sometimes a dog may only have side effects years down the line when their poor poisoned bodies can longer hold up to those pesticides. It's very sad.

So okay, what can you do?
The idea is to "prevent" the parasite from biting your dog. There are really sooo many natural ways to approach this, from home made sprays or those that are also natural and you can get them at the pet store. You can add certain items to a dogs food bowl such as garlic. There are even natural antiparastic supplements for dogs on the market.

Now I do it the hard way, this is not for the lazy. But if you are still reading at this point then you probably really love your dog and will do what it takes.

So yeah I suppose I'm a sucker for torture, but actually its not really, as its more of a "it's my duty and responsibility "!

Because I'm a sponge for learning I have learned that ticks will crawl around on your dog's body for at least roughly 12 to 24 hours, then latch on. They usually climb up the legs or onto the face as your dog investigates eg the veld/bush/grass.

So apparently if a tick is found and removed, whether it has bitten or not, within minimum 24 hours, then your dog is safe from disease (I could be incorrect on this, but let's carry on ....)
Knowing this I do the following:
If I know I'm going into tick infested areas I will spray my dog with one of two sprays (whatever I have handy):
1. A mix of 50/50 water and Apple Cider Vinegar mix, or
2. A natural anti-parasite spray with ingredients that are not going to poison my dog but will repel parasites.

Now you may think this is enough... but I personally do not think so.

I am Human, I forget to spray sometimes, but I do have time on my side. Within less than 8 hours or so of leaving tick infested areas I will use a flea comb, yes, a flea comb! I will very carefully comb Lycan inch by inch.
Like this morning, we went for a walk in the veld and this afternoon I carefully combed him and combed out two teeny weeny ticks that were crawling on him looking for their perfect latch on spot.
I did not have to poison my boy and risk, not only his health, or his life!
Yes, dogs have died shortly after being given antiparasitics. I will not do this!

So I put this out here for you, to think about, to do your own research. But think very carefully about how your vet prescribed anti tick & flea products actually work, what are the ingredients and exactly how harmful are they? What are some listed side effects? Research on the web asking how many dogs have died from those products coz they are not going to write that in the product insert.
How long could your dog's body be poisoned before there is enough poison gathered in your dog's organs, blood and tissues to cause permanent damage or death? Do you have it in you to make the effort to comb your dog regularly during tick season (I comb daily sometimes)?
Anyways, I hope this has been helpful to you.

Not the best pic but anyways...

It's so rewarding making a dog owner's dreams come true. Bailey is having his, now, 2nd outside the property walk. Due to some circumstances his Mistress could not walk him off the property until i came along to teach her how.

Hard work pays off. I'm so proud of them.

Meet Augustus. He is a 3 month old American Bullie. He is exhausted after his first lesson of Puppy class. While his Mistress and I were chatting he got comfy at the water dish and fell asleep 😴
He is super cute and lots of fun to work with. Welcome to our school Augustus & Kayleigh.

When I train my own dog, or when I am instructing a client, I use what I like to call "Training with Understanding". What does this mean exactly.....Well, firstly, I focus on the dog in front of me....
It could be old, it could be young, it could by hyper, it could be chill, it may know a little bit of Obedience already or it may be completely clueless - I take this and everything about this dog into consideration. I adjust my methodology to work for the dog so the dog can learn and have fun. There is no punishment during training as this makes no sense at all. There are corrections, as in, if the dog got it wrong then the correction is to show the dog what they were supposed to do and reward them as if they did it all by themselves. This is pretty effective.

Punishment, eg a pop on the collar, is reserved for moments where the dog is about injure someone or even injure themselves. But punishment will not be used to "fix" a Sit, or a Down, or a Recall, or a Trick or anything we wish to teach our dogs.

Can you imagine - the dog barely knows Sit, then handler gets impatient and punishes the dog for disobeying the command Sit. Do you honestly believe the dog will learn what Sit is from being punished for not performing the Sit when it does not quite understand the Sit exercise? No, this is not effective training and I advise against using such methods.

So this makes my Dog Training School a little different - I work One on One only to really focus on the needs of my clients - dogs included.
Never forget that what works for one dog will probably not work for another dog. I also teach particular "Life skills" you will not find being taught at other dog schools, but these skills are important to know and understand in order to have the best relationship with your dog and to avoid future problems.
