People get told not to eat ultra processed food but when it comes to pets we are told to feed them exclusively ultra processed food? Seems weird to me, ditch the pellets and feed your pet real food!

Transitioning a cat to a raw diet can be difficult but it’s possible! We have many clients who have transitioned their fussy feline to our raw food for cats!

CHANGE YOUR CAT’S FOOD TO PREVENT KIDNEY FAILURE! 😿

Kidney disease is the leading cause of death in older cats.🐈 Typically a slowly progressive disease, many cat owners don’t notice any signs of kidney failure until it is too late. Most cats drink very little water💧, depending on their food for water, but as we know, dry cat food lacks the moisture needed for healthy bladder and kidney function. A life long diet of dry cat food will eventually lead to chronic kidney disease for the majority of cats.

One of the best ways to protect your cat’s kidneys is by feeding foods with 70% more moisture🥩 but getting your finicky cat to give up their kibble addiction often seems like an impossible task. The good news is, we’ve seen many pets on processed diets who are fussy eaters, successfully transition to a new diet. Even older, super finicky cats. 🙌

Transitioning cats to new foods is possible, but there are two foundational steps before you even change their food:

☝️Step #1, pick up the bowls. The first step is to pick up the all-you-can-eat-buffet bowl.

✌️Step #2, weigh your cat. Weighing is very important to find out your pet’s base weight and then determining how many calories your cat really needs.

Once you have done this, the steps to transitioning their food can begin.

I explain the entire process in an hour long step-by-step video in the Inside Scoop archives. And during today’s episode we’ll be discussing more ways to get your cat to try new, healthier foods with our special guests the The Two Crazy Cat Ladies!🐱🐱 In addition to food, we’ll also be discussing supplements, enrichment, hairball remedies, and more! Plus we’re answering some of your questions about urinary issues and other common health problems many of you are facing with your pets.

Join us today as we discuss all things CATS with the Two Crazy Cat Ladies, an episode many of you have been asking for! So join us today at noon ET, for this lively episode! Looking forward to seeing your questions in the chat! 🙌

NATURE'S ANTIBIOTIC

“If you follow any good gardener around in their garden and they spot one of their trees looking unhealthy, with discoloured leaves and fruits that are not quite thriving, they don’t spend too much time looking at those leaves and the fruit. Rather they head straight down to the bottom of the tree and they analyze the roots and the soil around it: the foundation of the entire organism. Our gut is like the roots of those trees and plants. It is where we extract and absorb all the nutrients our body needs to nourish itself.” - Dr Alejundro Junger

As the saying goes: As above, so below.

Health and disease start from your pet’s gut, the largest immune organ in their bodies. Packed with bacteria, (so much bacteria that they outnumber the cells in their bodies) they keep the immune system functioning properly. However, when the bad bacteria start to outweigh the good, serious disease related problems could start to develop!

Why does your pet need good bacteria?

Good bacteria provide beneficial effects to humans and their pets:

• Preventing onset of allergies.
• Prevents the overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut.
• Improving gastrointestinal health.
• Reducing risk of reoccurring urinary tract infections.

Recent research also indicates that probiotics may offer anti-cancer benefits. A few strains of bacteria used to formulate probiotics appear to stimulate anti-cancer chemical production while theL. casei strain may lower the risk of bladder cancer in dog breeds prone to this kind of cancer.

Kefir can work miracles for yours and your pet’s body. So go ahead and start incorporating it into your diets to reap the benefits that this wonderful grain has to offer.

Recommended minimum daily intake of kefir:

Small size dogs or cats - 1 tsp. - 1 tbsp.
Medium size dogs - 1 - 2 tbsp.
Large dogs - 2 - 3 tbsp.

Probiotics; what are they and does your dog need them?

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are meant to live in your gut, or in this case your pets’ gut. When people here the word bacteria they often freak out and assume that bacteria will make you sick, but truthfully there is good and bad bacteria. The bacteria that you find in your or your pets’ digestive tract are there to help! They help the body move food through the digestive system, help produce vitamins, and help fight off bad bacteria that can make you sick. If you have a healthy population of good bacteria it is more difficult for bad bacteria to take hold and make you sick. So YES probiotic bacteria is good for you pet!

When your dog gets an upset tummy it might be a good idea to give him some probiotics to help fight off the bad bacteria!

Examples of Probiotics;

Probiotics can be found in some foods such as: yogurt, Kefir, and fermented vegetables. You can also buy probiotic capsules or bottled probiotics. We offer a both fermented kefir probiotics and 12 strain bottled probiotics from Promix Pet supplements. I like to have them on hand in case one of our dogs gets an upset tummy and to give from time to time to make sure that they maintain optimal gut health.

It's simply a scientific fact that felines (yes, even the domestic ones!) are not designed by nature to digest large amounts of carbs, so say no to grain- and carb-based cat food.

Something to think about! It’s really easy to help your dog with small additions to their food!

Something to think about! It’s really easy to help your dog with small additions to their food!

Today’s The Forever Dog Longevity Tip 🐶
Add some apiaceous vegetables (e.g., carrots, cilantro, parsnips, fennel, celery, parsley) to your dog’s dry or canned food! 🥕

These gems contain polyacetylenes, an unusual class of organic compounds that has antibacterial AND antifungal benefits. They play a key role in detoxifying several cancer-causing substances, specifically MYCOTOXINS. Mycotoxins are tasteless, odorless fungal toxins found in pet food ingredients that cause organ damage and immune problems.

Eliminating mycotoxins from your dog’s body can be really difficult but serving up apiaceous veggies is a great way to enhance the metabolism of these toxic compounds!

Raw or cooked, carrots and parsnip slices make great training treats, while cilantro, parsley, and fennel can be minced and mixed in with your dog’s food.

This easy food hack is one of many simple strategies Rodney Habib and I include in The Forever Dog book to keep your dog healthy. Available now at https://foreverdog.com/dog-longevity-health-and.../
