As a team, we are often overwhelmed with joy when we’re able to help reunite a missing pet with their family. Our measure of success is simple — bringing your beloved companion home, safe and sound.
But sometimes, success looks a little different. Sometimes, it's not about a joyful reunion, but rather about bringing closure to the painful unknown.
We were recently called in by Gucci’s family to help find their beloved little Yorkie. Gucci was blind and deaf, and deeply loved. Her dad is currently working in Dubai, while her mom was home caring for her. Somehow, despite every precaution, little Gucci managed to slip out.
After trying everything she could on her own, Gucci’s mom reached out for help — and we answered the call. We set out with K9 Loki and our gentle emotional support sausage dog, Enya. Both dogs were consistently drawn toward one of the estate's dams during the search, but the night was long, and our torches had all gone flat. With the dam's steep embankment posing a real risk in the dark, we made the difficult decision to pause the search for safety reasons.
The following morning, we returned — this time without the dogs — and followed the same path they had shown us the night before. At the base of the embankment, near the dam, we found sweet little Gucci. She had clearly fallen in not long after she went missing.
We gently retrieved her and spent time with her heartbroken family as they laid her to rest in her favourite spot at home — a place filled with love and memories.
This was not the ending we had hoped for. But even in sorrow, we hold onto the comfort of knowing that Gucci is no longer lost — and that her family has the chance to grieve with certainty and honour her memory with love.
Rest gently, precious Gucci. You were deeply cherished. 💔🐾
