Baloo’s Journey Home

On the morning of 26 December, Baloo decided to embark on an unexpected solo adventure, slipping out of a window and vanishing. His family, understandably worried, searched high and low. Baloo’s fur uncle stepped in and quickly got the ball rolling, calling for extra help. That’s when K9 Loki joined the mission.

Loki’s sharp nose led the team to a stormwater drain, where it seemed Baloo had made himself at home. Despite their efforts, Baloo stayed one step ahead. Undeterred, the family spread the word by putting up posters around the area, hoping for a breakthrough.

On 19 January their persistence paid off. A phone call came through—Baloo had been spotted, still in the stormwater system but at a different entrance. His fur uncle was contacted and wasted no time heading to the scene.

There, Baloo was finally found, happy and wagging his tail, as if to say, “What took you so long?” After a long week of searching, he was safe and sound, ready to head home.

Welcome back, Baloo—you gave everyone quite the scare, but we’re glad you’re back where you belong.

UPDATE FROM FAMILY.

It is with great sadness that we share an update that Tim's body was found at about 09h30 this morning (Thursday 23 Jan) in the Hennops River following a car accident.

MISSING PERSON SEARCH TEAMS NEEDED.

I know we usually focus on missing pets. Please see below though for a missing person we are assisting with.

Hennops CPF, SDS Security, SAPS Tshwane and K9 Loki are mobilising a search party for Tim van Asche. Please help us find him. He was last seen just before 4am on Monday morning by CCTV cameras leaving his house in Glenferness.

His vehicle was found just after 5am by SDS Security and he was not in the vehicle. We have had divers and search and reascue in the water for 3 days. We need to do a grid search on both sides of the river to see if he managed to get out of the river and is disorientated by a head injury.

After an anxious few days filled with worry and hope, a story of resilience and love unfolded as 10-year-old Katnis, who had just been adopted, found her way back home.

Katnis was adopted and brought to her new forever home on Monday 30 December 2024. To the family’s horror, less than 24 hours later Katnis was gone. She had slipped through a small gap in a window, disappearing into the unknown

On Tuesday, December 31, her new owners reached out in distress. Despite only having her in their lives for a day, her family was deeply committed to bringing her back, sparking an emotional and desperate search.

With guidance on how to encourage Katnis to return, her family poured their hearts into the effort, leaving no stone unturned. Each passing day without her weighed heavily on their hearts, but they refused to give up. Their unwavering determination and patience paid off on Friday, January 3, when Katnis finally made her way back home, safe and sound. The moment she walked through the door, she brought immense relief, overwhelming joy, and a renewed sense of hope to her loving family.

Katnis’ safe return is more than just a happy ending; it’s a powerful testament to the enduring bonds of love and the strength of the human-animal connection. Welcome home, sweet Katnis—you are so very loved!

After a tense and emotional search, Chase’s journey back home ended in relief and gratitude.

Chase’s harrowing journey began on New Year’s Eve when the loud and frightening fireworks startled him. Despite his family’s careful preparations, this 11-year-old angel was so overwhelmed by fear that he forced his way through the palisade and electric fencing surrounding their property. After 3 days of frantic searching, K9 Loki and his team were called in.

When we arrived at the property, we conducted a thorough search to ensure he wasn’t hiding or stuck nearby. K9 Loki, scented to Chase’s jersey and collar, quickly confirmed he had ventured through the palisade toward the river. Loki’s keen nose led us along the riverbank, where he tracked, swam, and doubled back, ultimately uncovering a spoor indicating a dog of Chase’s size had passed through. With Loki’s confirmation, we guided the owners to take strategic steps—placing strong-smelling food near the river and walking Chase’s sister in the area.

Their amazing gardener Reason followed all the instructions. During his subsequent walks he came across a few guards who had seen chase go towards the informal settlement. Reason continued intentionally towards the informal settlement where someone approached him asking if he would like another one(Reason had Ntombi, Chase's sister with him). Reason explained he was looking for his employer's dog, the person who had approached him then took him to a little shack where chase was being kept and the man said they would need R2000 to give him back. They negotiated down to R1000. With the help of Ghost Squad Security, friends and neighbours, Reason was able to secure Chase. Thankfully, Chase is now home, safe and sound.

A trip to the vet revealed minor injuries, but he is expected to make a full recovery. His resilience and the unwavering commitment of his family and the search team have brought this beloved pup back where he belongs. This heartwarming reunion is a powerful reminder of the lengths we go for those we love. Welcome home, Chase!
