Have a temperate area of your home with your dog’s bed or blanket, some toys, and a water bowl, where your dog feels safe and can easily take naps during the day. This can help your dog to self-soothe during stressful situations, like parties, a baby crying, or thunderstorms. If your dog was crate trained as a rescue puppy or when joining your family, keeping their crate open and available even after they no longer need it for training may provide them with a perfect place just for them that they’ll love to have. 🐶

I think we can all agree that there is nothing more relaxing and rejuvenating than a good night’s sleep. This is true not only for people, but for dogs too. Dogs sleep between 12-14 hours a day, so a comfy bed to snooze on is pretty important! 💤

Please do your research before adopting/buying any breed. Speak to many different people about their experiences and also orgs that are breed specific. Many people get a puppy because they are cute but have no idea how to raise them, train them and more importantly what good responsible life time management is involved.

Please get educated before you get a pitbull. We just want to make this very clear. There are members of the public and different dog shelters who keep on commenting on their version of the pitbull genetics. Stating that the breed is human aggressive, this is nonsense, it's not the truth. Learn from their history, about the genetics they're not human aggressive they are DOG aggressive.

Yes! Pitbulls are genetically aggressive, but its also so far back in the history and with proper obedience training and socializing they can tolerate other animals. They have never been genetically aggressive towards humans.

"What triggers a dog to bite?" Frustration, Chaining, Teasing, Abuse, Starvation, Beating, Fear Aggression, Pain with out medical treatment, thunder, loud noises, unknown places.

What were American pitbulls bred for? They were "Originally bred to “bait” bulls, the breed evolved into all-around farm dogs" https://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/american-pit-bull-terrier #/slide/10 .

To the people who say pitbulls are the most aggressive dog breed- Pitbulls have an 87.4% pass rate ranking at number 4 out of 122 breeds according to the American Temperment Tests https://www.pitbullinfo.org/pit-bulls-temperament.html , https://askvet.app/pitbull.

Please be responsible teach your minors to respect a dog. They need there space, stay away when they are eating, don't tease them. Give them love with out clinging and climbing on them. Never hit or pull or scream in its ears, never throw them with sticks, or stones for they will retaliate. A dog is not a TOY! Sterilise you dogs for If you have a female dog in season, that will cause problems with the male & kids get close.

A pitbull will not attack a human without reason. If a pitbull jumps a fence there was almost 100% chanse a person or child aggravated the dog.

If your pitbull has suddenly become aggressive towards you or other people don't just put him/her to sleep take them to a vet for a full medical check-up. He or she might be sick or in pain, or get a qualified dog behaviorist to help you find and resolve the problem.

URGENT: PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

Pitbulls are not banned in South Africa. No legislation prevents the keeping of Pitties in complexes, residential estates or private property. It was brought under our attention that landlords are now forcing residents to get rid of their pitbulls, some who already reside in the estate or complex for many years! This is ridiculous and driven by uninformed people who do not have their facts together.

Without an already standing rule, implemented by a residential complex or estate, these people can not simply force loving owners to give up their pittie children, driven by a petition and social media.

As with many dog owners, Pitties are equally part of the family and by forcing responsible and loving owners to give up their dogs, are not legal or driven by any logic.

Do not allow this irrational behaviour and prejudice towards the breed. This is not acceptable and not driven by legislation.

We will continue to be the voice for the voiceless.

PUPPIE'S FIRST WALK

Everyone looks to the day their dog can start walking for the first time. Exciting times! But what about the puppy? Is he/she excited as You or is everything overwhelming for him/her?
It's a BIG scary world out there.

Well before D-day...

Get your puppy out and about in your arms or a sling or car rides. Find somewhere to sit and watch the world go by. Let him/her see people, dogs or traffic in distance. Watch for his/her reactions. Keep him safe, keep him feeling safe. You really want Everything to be non-event for him/her, not too exciting, not too overwhelming, and definitely not scary.

People will want to ooh and ahh over him/her. You'll want to show him/her off but don't let people to overwhelm him/her. Don't allow strangers to approach him/her or let them touch it unless it is clear that it is happy to make the first move.

Teach the puppy to wear the harness and walk nicely on the lead well advance of wanting to take it for a walk.

There are lot of ways to teach the nice lead walking. Here is one suggestion:

At his mealtime, walk around the house or yard holding his food bowl and give him his food once at a time from your other hand at anytime he is there besides you. This is without a lead. Continue to do This until he understands the game until he follows you about or walks with you for the whole of his meal. Sounds fun Right?😄

Meanwhile, use some yummy treats and sit on the floor and get him used to his collar and/or harness. Once he is happy to wear them and sit with his harness for treats then attach the lead and give it the treat, take it off and so on.

Now, next mealtime attach the lead on the harness which he is now fine with. Tuck your your belt loop and do as you did before

1. STOP! don't move when your dog pulls. when you move when your dog pulls, your dog thinks it is because he pulled you. if you move only when there is no pressure on the leash, your dog will cetch on quick.

2. BEGIN TRAINING INSIDE if your dog pays attention or not while you outside. lowers your distractions to teach your dog the skills to begin with and as your dog masters those new skills, slowly increase distractions.

3. CLICK or mark with a 'yes!' so that your dog notices when it is doing the right thing, you can use a yummy treat with a marker.

4. TALK with your dog! talking to your dog helps your dog focus on you and not get too distracted by other stimuli. dogs love having your attention and the interaction they can get from you for behaving.

5. As you increase distractions, increase the VALUE of the food you give as rewards. in higher distraction training sessions, make sure to use "human" food such as boiled chicken or hotdogs.

6. EVERY WALK IS A TRAINING SESSION. this means that until your dog walks well on leash, find other ways to exercise your dog. bicycle rides, running on treadmill, and obedience training are all methods to drain the energy.
