Duke the Alaskan Malamute 🐶

This big boy has his second appointment with me. I started off with a nice long brush. His fur is quite thick, so I needed to to start from the top and seperate his fur for every brush stroke. This allowed me to brush down through the layers to ensure any old fur is removed. It was quite a hot day, and as much as he was patient and stood still, there were a few times where he trotted off to cool himself down in the swimming pool 💦

His fur can be quite difficult to wash, so I applied the same method as the brushing, and also only worked in sections. This allowed me to wash every area thoroughly and down to his skin. I used a mild non irritant shampoo that is gentle on the skin 🧴 After his final rinse I brushed him down again to remove all the dislodged fur. All in all a great groom for a gentle big boy 🐾 💙

So awesome grooming this BIG handsome boy again. Duke is an Alaskan Malamute, and is the most gentle dog. He loves water, but in his own terms 😅 During grooming he would stop and hop into the pool to cook down. I must admit I had to use some muscle strength to keep him still when I was washing him but he soon learned he wasn't going to get away 💦 😂🐶

It's always a breeze grooming this girl. As long as I have those treats then she's all happy. I should have figured out though that Peanut would love the new peanut butter paw treats 😄

Betty, the loving girl who doesn't know her own strength ❣️

I see this girl every month and she is always so excited to see me. I think she could actually be the most eager dog for her grooming session lol 😆

As a bull terrier, Betty is an extremely strong dog, using her strength to find all the doggy treats, whether they're in my tub or in the back of my car 🚗

I'll see you and your sisters next month pretty girl. 🤍🐶

The weather was perfect for dog grooming this morning ☀️

Meet Mojo and Sugar 😁🐕 New clients who will now be joining their cousins (Betty and Gucci) for their monthly groom.

There was lots of treats, tail wagging and snorts going on today, it definitely put a smile on my face😄 These absolute darlings kept so still for their wash, and afterwards they enjoyed the zoomies around the garden 🏡

I'm sure we've all noticed by now that Winter is well and truly on its way.

While we are still fortunate enough to have those very hot days, that nip in the air keeps coming back not long after.

If you're anything like me, you worry about your dogs keeping themselves warm and having the appropriate shelter for when those cold days do come.

🐾 While the very cold weather is still to come, it's important to keep an eye on your dogs paws after walks, especially if done early morning and late afternoon. After you walk your pup, be sure to dry them if they get wet from morning dew or rain. Check their paws for cracks or redness that could need attention.

🐾 Dogs usually burn more energy during colder months when they’re likely to be more active to stay warm. Unless they’re on a special diet, perhaps a little overweight or have other dietary restrictions, consider giving them a little more food during this time.

🐾 If it’s too cold for you outside, the same is likely true for your pet. Even though your dog has fur, that doesn't mean they don't get cold, especially in the evenings. Keep your eyes open and if really cold temperatures are expected, your dog would be better off inside with you 🏡🥶

🐾 For dogs that live indoors and outdoors, be sure to check their water dish regularly to make sure it’s not partially or completely frozen 💧

Rest well sweet Bella. So sad to hear that this old girl passed away this last week. I was all ready to go see her on my trip into Bishopstowe as I had promised Sandi (her mom) that I'd give Bella a gentle bath before I clipped her nails again.

Thank you Sandi for sending me the picture of her as a pup.

16 years young, it was a pleasure to get to know this sweet girl 💛🐾

So obviously, I don't post about cats on my page, 🐈‍⬛ but these little faces are up for adoption.

A few weeks ago, their mom, Nunu, pitched up at my mom-in-law's place and decided to make herself at home. During a bad storm last week, she disappeared and came back every hour on the hour, in the middle of the night, bringing her kittens to the house.

This momma cat is incredible, she feeds constantly and cleans her babies up. They were taken to the vet a few days ago for deworming, and Nunu was happy to lie on the table in the vet's room to feed her babies.

In a few weeks, these gentle, happy little souls (4 females and one male) will be up for adoption. We would like them to go to good homes that will love them and spay or neuter them when the time comes. The world really does not need more "feral" cats giving birth.

I've been a bit quiet on socials the past week and a bit. I have been so extremely busy that I just needed to take a bit of a breather, which is definitely important for your own wellbeing 💛

I had the most lovely appointment with Phoenix, Harley and Bullet. These three were loving, gentle and just so sweet.
What a pleasure to pop down the road and get them washed and brushed. I'm not sure who enjoyed the appointment more, Phoenix or myself 🥰🐶🐾

Yesterday's pack 🐾

Monday started with me heading out to get this pack started with their grooming. Then the drama with my Luna happened and the pack's owner was super understanding and let me leave everything behind to rush to the vets. 🛻

Yesterday I headed out and was very grateful for the lovely weather 🌞🌳

These dogs are awesome, real farm dogs who guard their house, run around, chase one another and just have the best of times 🐶

With some well needed help from Dr. Andrea Paul, I got the pack shaved, brushed, washed and up and going before they knew what was happening! 🫧✂️🛁

For those of you in New Hanover and surrounds who have dogs that would benefit from a home vet visit, I would highly recommend Dr. Andrea 👩‍⚕️

So no cute doggy grooming pics from today.

Things changed really drastically for me this morning. I arrived at my new client in New Hanover, and whilst I was just about to start on the first dog, I saw my phone was vibrating with an incoming call.

I don't usually answer calls during grooming but I knew Kyle wouldn't be calling unless something was wrong, and something was wrong.

My little girl Luna (aka The Goose) was in distress. She was swollen from tail to nose and was very uncomfortable and vomiting. After a quick chat with my amazingly understanding client, I hopped in the car and flew up the road to meet Kyle and Luna. Having no clue what had happened, we were worried her airway would swell which would of course cause trouble with her breathing. I met Kyle and popped Luna in the car and rushed through to Greytown to VetCross Umvoti

Thankfully Dr Alexa was available and she immediately got to work, giving Luna the necessary meds to combat a potential allergy and the recation she was having. My little Goose was absolutely petrified, but with a lot of gentle talking and soft loves, the Dr was able to help Luna and then take a blood smear for a billary check.

I have been so slack this month in medicating my dogs against ticks and fleas, and in those few minutes of waiting for the result, I knew I would never forgive myself if she had contracted billary as it is a completely PREVENTABLE disease! Thankfully her test was clear, and while it would have been better for her to stay overnight for observation, we made the call to bring her home with me as her separation anxiety would most likely flare up if separated from me.

While we still don't know what happened, I'm so ever grateful to the amazing team at Vet Cross Umvoti and for everything they did for me today.

While her test was negative, I just want to remind you all to please please please do the right thing and contact your local vets for tick medication. It's such a simple thing to do yet many of us forget or brush it off with the same old "I'll do it next month". These dogs rely on us completely and it is our responsibility to love them and take care of them 💛

I'm feeling extra grateful today 😊💛

My darling puppy Mala, recently met up with her brother for the first time in 5 months!

Anyone who knows me knows that I HIGHLY support and recommend adopting, whether it's a puppy or an adult dog.

Mala (right hand side in the photo) & her 11 siblings were born on a carpet in a workshop on the South Coast to a black Labrador mom and Ridgeback dad. At 6 weeks the owners wanted them gone, so although still very young, Mala and her brother Rubble made their journey to us here in Dalton.

Rubble was adopted by friends of ours & is absolutely living his best life; riding in bakkies, playing in the garden and cuddling with his best friend Graham 🥰

It was so lovely going to groom Rubbles brother and having Mala come along and spend time running around and playing with her brother 😃⚽

I definitely think more playdates are going to be on the agenda for these two 🐾🌳

Bella. gentle, loving, and a whole 16 years old.

I met Bella and her dog mom Sandi recently on my trip to Bishopstowe. Sandi needed some help with clipping Bella's nails as her late husband used to clip them himself.

I didn't spend more than 20 minutes at their home, but from the moment I walked in, it was clear that this girl has been loved her entire life and still has her happy tappy feet going.

Even though her hearing is almost gone and her eyesight is poor, Bella sniffed those treats up super quickly and then sat so patiently whilst I cut her nails.

I will be seeing this special senior again in a few weeks, and I can't wait to share more pictures of her with you all 💛🐾

We all love our furry family members so much, and we think we know everything about them.

For example, my pups: Mala loves swimming but hates baths, Luna is scared of loud noises and uses my bed as her comfort zone. Little Scampy growls at the other dogs because he feels intimidated by the rest of the pack. My Solly is food orientated and will do anything for a snack 😆🐕🐾💦🛏️🛁

There is SO much more to learn about our dogs, and Google is a fantastic hub of information that is so incredibly interesting 💡🥸 Do yourself a favour and take some time to read up on how incredible our pups are!

Say Hello to Charlie. The most handsome and zesty little wire haired terrier

Charlie landed with his bum in the butter with his new mom 💛 Spoiled with some delicious treats and an absolutely stunning garden to run around in, he tends to get lots of bits and pieces stuck in his thick wiry fur.

Along with my lovely right hand lady (Gugu) I shaved Charlie's coat down nice and short.

Standing like a champ without barely a fuss at all, I managed to get his entire body done rather quickly. I used my scissors on his feet to just trim them slightly, and with an ear wipe, eye wipe and a quick bath, this boy was looking and smelling like a champion in no time 🏆😘

I was so grateful to have Gugu's help as she really has a fantastic way with animals, I have never seen a child so calm and relaxed around dogs, and it's amazing how Charlie picked up on that. With many treats, lots of giggles and the wind blowing the fur right into us, we called it a day 💛🐾

Thank you for allowing me to groom you sweet Charlie, I look forward to seeing you and your sisters again soon!

This morning was Zumbie's first appointment with me. Although not used to a lead, after a few chewies, he walked to the shade and lay down like a good boy 😇

His Winter coat was still shedding quite a bit so I brushed him out with my de-shedding rake, along with plenty of praise and treats.

Apparently he isn't a fan of water, however with my fantastic pet shower head(scroll across for a picture) he didn't seem to mind the water on him at all. After applying the shampoo🧴 he got some gentle head and body massages before standing beautifully still for his rinse off 💧🙂

You could see Zumbie was feeling good after we were done, some zoomies in the garden and a roll in the grass to finish it off 🌳🌞

Thanks to Zinhle for keeping him entertained by telling him what a handsome boy he is 👍🏻😊🐾

This shy girl is Olive 🫒

She is part of a much larger pack and is the only one with a longer coat. I didn't manage to get any more pics of her as I had my hands full out in the sun 😎☀️

Olive pie had her coat brushed through, and almost a complete shave as she really struggles with the heat. Her human is fantastic and was fine with Olive not being completely even with her shave on her legs and tail (she was slightly nervous) 🐕We finished her appointment off with a nice quick bath and some treats 💦

I don't like to push dogs when they are uncomfortable, especially when it's their first appointment. I want them to be comfortable around me and to know that my visit means pampering, cuddles and treats, not panic and mayhem.

I know she is feeling much better in this heat and will enjoy the walks and runs with her awesome human 🙂🐾💛

We all know that excitement you have when thinking about adding a new puppy to the family 🤩

As awesome as it is, it's important to do your reserach and prepare beforehand. Whether you are getting your first ever puppy, or you're introducing a new puppy to the rest of your pack, take a look at the following tips as they may just help you prepare 🙋‍♀️🐕🐩

🐾 To make sure you adopt a dog who will be a good fit in your life, you need to look at the big picture for the pet and for your family and for where you live. If you are adopting from a shelter, chat to the staff and tell them what sort of lifestyle you want for the pet. They know their dogs well & can help you choose the right dog.

🐾 Some of the longest-living dog breeds will be your best pal for up to 15 years. So making a lifelong commitment to take care of your dog means providing him with adequate nutrition, exercise, and interaction, as well as veterinary care and training.

🐾 While puppies are hard to resist, take time to think through what life with a puppy in your home would be like before making a commitment. Remember that training starts at a young age and you need to be able to commit yourself and your time to them.

🐾 Your pup will need dog food right away. Find out what your new dog has been eating and decide if you want to continue that food or start transitioning them to a new food. Check with your vet to confirm that the food you use meets your dog’s individual nutritional needs.

🐾 Set up a sleeping spot in advance. It’s generally best to start your dog with a specific smaller space. This gives them a safe area of their own. Prepare it ahead of time, and add a cozy dog bed & a special toy for them.

🐾 Like excitement, calm can be contagious. If you keep your cool, even when unsettling or annoying things happen, that will help your dog stay calm as well.

🐾 You and your dog are new to each other. It will take time for both of you to adjust. Think of ways to set them up for success. Do you need a dog gate to keep them out of a certain area? Are you accidentally encouraging the wrong behavior? Exercise patience. In most cases, things will get better once your dog settles in.

Paddy you make me laugh 😆 🐶

This funny boy is a ball of fun, goofy, with a massive smile and and even bigger heart, it doesn't take long for him to creep into your heart 💛

Paddy and his sister Fifi both had a lovely brush down and bath today. Surprisingly Paddy's longer fur doesn't shed as much as Fifi's and he was so easy to brush. I wish I could have taken a photo of him while he was wet (but my hands were wet too) as he was super shiny and as sleek as a seal 😍 Of course that didn't last long as he shook off and ran straight to the grass to roll around 😁🌳
