🐶 Small breeds grow much quicker, reaching the adult stage at 10 months.
💙 Medium breeds reach adulthood at 12 months of age and have similar nutrient requirements to small breed puppies.
💙 Smaller stomachs and rapid growth requires a diet where they're able to extract as much energy and nutrients for growth as possible from a small amount of food.
💙 It is recommended to divide the daily ration into 3 feedings per day for at least the first 3 months.
🐺 Large breeds take longer to reach the adult stage.
💜 We therefore recommend keeping these puppies on puppy food for at least 18 months. This is crucial as we want their bones, tendons, joints and muscles to develop properly to carry them well into their adult and senior lives.
💜 Large breed puppy foods need to supply lower energy in the form of fat and carbohydrates, as well as lower levels of Calcium to reduce growth rate to acceptable levels.
💜 Conversely they need more high quality proteins to ensure the development of strong and healthy muscles with the minimum of excessive body fat.
💜 Care needs to be taken when feeding your large or giant breed puppy as certain breeds tend to bloat easily.
Larger, deep-chested breeds such as Great Danes, Saint Bernard, Boxers and German Shepherds are more susceptible.
💜 We recommend feeding smaller meals throughout the day and try to prevent high activity just before or after a meal.
