Thomas, the cutie, is looking right at you and asking if you will sn**ch him up and make him a part of your family!

Just look at that gorgeous face too. We think there may be some Staffie in there judging by his look, but we cannot be sure as he was rescued from a puppy seller and we did not see his parents.

Thomas is currently in foster care with a puppy, plenty of dogs and cats and he gets on well with them all. He also loves people and can sit already, for a tasty treat of course. He also walks well off leash.

He is a confident boy and will be medium to large once fully grown. He has had his first few vaccinations and been micro chipped. He will be sterilised at 6 months of age as part of the adoption fee.

Age: 12 weeks
Size: medium to large

These stunning collies are in need of a lifeline 🤎

Wollie (female) and Rex (male tri-colour)
These two were surrendered just before Christmas, and although fosters and adoptions were and still are almost non-existent, we found a very temporary place for them to go.
Sadly they have been in two foster homes already, and we just don't know what else to do to give them a life line.
They are such timid dogs, having lived a life of hardship and no attention. Wollie was just a skeleton and seems to find a lot of comfort in Rex, which is why we would of course prefer they go together, they have been each other's company all their life.

They are a smallish medium size, due to their short legs, but otherwise they are more or less collie types.

All we want for these two is to be part of a family where they can unwind, decompress, relax and start to enjoy life.

They are around 3 years old, we are not sure if they are siblings, but possibly family.

They are sterilised, vaccinated, treated for ticks and fleas, micro chipped and have ID tags.
Our adoption fee is R1000 per dog but we are willing to bring it down a little in order to keep them together in the right home.
Please email [email protected] or inbox us if you want more information.
They are in Cape Town.

WHEN WILL IT EVER GET EASIER … DAYS LIKE TODAY IS WHEN YOU FEEL HELPLESS AND DEFEATED … WE ARE DESPERATELY BEGGING FOR YOUR HELP AND ASSISTANCE

The reality of COVID is now knocking on our door as it is knocking on so many other doors. The past couple of months we tried to get to everything and manage our financial commitments the best as we can. With everyone informing us of annual increases we unfortunately are busy losing this fight and we cannot do it on our own anymore. We had so many donors cancel debit orders because of financial constraints due to Covid-19 related implications at their place of residence and work that we just cannot get to our financial commitments anymore, ESKOM informed us about the annual increase, dog food prices increased, diesel increased and we can go on and on and on.

After an emergency meeting an executive decision was taken to close our doors to all new intakes —as hard as it might be for everyone involved we cannot commit to take in extra animals at this stage. All assistance to our Outreach communities will cease with immediate effect and we will only assist when the case is absolutely critical and in dire need for medical assistance.

Covid-19 has not make it any easier for anyone and animal welfare must surely be on the reserving end of being hit the hardest - no major fundraising events can be done due to limited crowd attendance, online fundraising are not bringing in hardly enough to cope or meet our financial commitments and so we now find ourselves tonight in a position that we are struggling to keep our doors open. With no funds to buy dog food we have nowhere to turn but to you, our supporters.

It is a heartbreaking situation when you find yourself in the very difficult position where one are not in a financial position to order and pay for much needed cat food.

We currently have 309 cats in our care and they eat approximately 15.5kg (50g per cat per day) of food per day which equates to about 465kg (31 x 15kg bags per month = R28 800) of food per month.

If you want to make a donation directly into our account at our supplier then please let us know and we will forward you the necessary account details. As the year progressed we thought that it would get better - life will become normal again but when we saw that the income is going into a downward spiral we started to get anxious. Now today at the end of August the hard reality is setting in as we worked through our financial contributions to try and make our payments - there just isn’t enough to meet the bills.

We are currently inundated with an alarming amount of requests to take in unwanted animals, rehoming requests and cases of neglect - this have been the worst it has ever been before and as much as we would want to help we are faced with the sad reality that we do not have sufficient funding to take in and care for these needy souls.

Unfortunately there is a limit to any Sanctuary as too how many strays, neglected and unwanted animals can be taken in and cared for - and we are no exception to this rule. Sanctuaries like ours DO NOT receive any financial assistance from Government nor could we apply for any Covid-19 relief funding. So the reality is that we solely rely on funding from our donors and supporters and therefore we are limited as to how many animals we can admit and care for to our best ability and ensure the very best care for them.

Without your assistance we will not be able to buy food for the cats in our care once we have depleted our current food reserves. We don’t have the magic fix for this situation and as we are faced with the sad reality of not being able to settle our outstanding bills in full nor are we able to buy food which is an absolute necessity for our animals.

So tonight we come to you hat in hand we are on our knees, begging for your assistance and support to at least feed our animals. If you can in anyway help with a contribution towards our food bill then we would be eternally grateful - this is how you can help:

URGENT

This is Trigger. Sweet Trigger is a happy, gentle soul who gets along peacefully with all creatures, 2-legged and 4-legged. He lost his tail in an accident, but if he had one, it would always be wagging🤗 Trigger’s humans have let him down, have left him homeless, at just 4 years old.

His home environment is dangerous for him, because his owners want this sweetie pie gone. If we can’t find him a foster home ASAP, he’ll have no choice but to go to the SPCA.

Is there anyone who can offer Trigger a warm bed and some love until he can find his forever home? He promises to be no trouble at all 💛🐾

If you can’t foster, please do share? Your shares have helped us save doggos and kitties before, it can happen again.

Foster and adopt through LEAPS. Please contact Dot on 0794751215. 🐶 Food and vet bills are sponsored by Leaps - Western Cape

UPDATE: Elvis is going home! 👏👏👏He’s found an amazing home in Tokai, Southern Suburbs with his very own work-from-home Dad and dog sister.

A BIG “well done” to Dot Skelly and LEAPS for giving this guy a shot at a better life, and a HUGE thanks to Sandy Bremmer and everyone else who shared his plight. 🎉 And especially, thank you to Elvis’ new Family 💛🐾 Thank you to everyone who offered to foster or adopt this sweet boy. It means the world.

ORIGINAL POST:

This PRECIOUS silver fox is looking for a chilled retirement home in the Western Cape. He is thought to be around 9 years of age, and while he is currently in Vredenburg, his transport to Cape Town can be arranged.

He is so sweet and docile, happy with or without other dogs, and will be checked with cats tomorrow (although we don’t expect there to be any issues given his gentle nature and age). He has been vaccinated, but is not neutered, and will likely not be neutered given his age (safest for him to stay off the surgeons’s table).

If you can offer him a warm bed inside, and a daily dose of love, that’s all he needs. Please contact Dot Skelly at 0794751215 (foster and/or adoption through LEAPS).

If a home cannot be found for him soon, he will unfortunately be taken to SPCA. He is currently living alone outside, and he deserves more. Let’s give this gentle old man the happiest last years of his life.

(NB I don’t have this boy with me, I am only sharing his plight. He’s really pulled on my heart strings).

THE PAST WEEK WE WERE PRESENTED WITH MORE CHALLENGES THAN WE CAN HANDLE … WE ARE IN ABSOLUTE DESPERATE NEED OF YOUR HELP AND ASSISTANCE TO HELP US FEED THE ANIMALS IN OUR CARE, PLEASE!

The past week we had to run around to ensure the safety of our animals and workers as the storms caused havoc and devastation on the farm. Every month we get more and more suppliers that are informing us of the increase in services or the items they supply. We are constantly trying to play catchup with our funds but sadly it has now reached such a point that we cannot keep up anymore with all our financial commitments. Everyone has been struggling through the worst financial crisis and as we enter the 3rd wave of Covid-19 we really cannot find the answers to get to all our financial commitments anymore. We try and manage everything and make sure our animals have enough food but our existing funds can only do so much. So the sad reality is that we won’t be able to financially acquire sufficient food for our animals this month.

This morning when we took stock of the amount of food left we found that we only have enough food until Tuesday 6 July 2021 = 5 days

Dogs:
Requirement:
164 Dogs in our care using approximately 65kg of food per day x 30 days in a month = 1950kg needed per month
43 Dogs on chronic medication and using 1 tin of soft food (no gravy or jelly) to get medication = 30 tins of soft food for medication purposes per month

Currently Available:
Dry Dog Food = 5 days using 65kg of food per day = 325 kg of food in storage
Canned Dog Food for medication purposes = 3 tins (we use 1 tin a day to give chronic medication and other prescribed medication)

Cats:

Requirement :
319 Cats in our care using approximately 50g per cat per day (16kg) x 30 days in a month = 480kg needed per month
Pouches/Canned food for sick cats and for medication purposes - 18 cats getting extra feeding and medication using 1 tins or 5 pouches a day x 30 days = 30 tins and 150 sachets of soft food needed

Currently Available:
Dry Cat Food = We currently have 96kg of cat food available divide it by 16kg needed per day = 6 days food left
Pouches/Canned food left = 13 tins and 23 pouches left.

The past week everyone’s determination, will power and strength were tested and tonight we truly feel defeated. As hard as we tried to get on top of all the challenges this week presented to us, we feel that we are slowly losing our grip. It is with a very heavy heart that we find ourselves in a very difficult position tonight when we realised that we are not in a financial position to order and pay for cat and dog food.

For our Cats:
We currently have 319 cats in our care and they eat approximately 16kg of food per day which equates to about 480kg (32 x 15kg bags per month = R28 800) of food per month.

For our Dogs:
We currently have 164 dogs in our care and they eat approximately 65kg of food per day which equates to about 1950kg (49 x 40kg bags per month = R30 674) of food per month.

We are currently inundated with an alarming amount of requests to take in unwanted animals, rehoming requests and cases of neglect - this have been the worst if has ever been before and as much as we would want to help we are faced with the sad reality that we do not have sufficient funding to take in and care for these needy souls.

The Story of Girl and Hound

My name is Chelsey, and I am just one Cape Town girl, rehabilitating and homing one shelter dog at a time.

A dog is the only thing on earth that will love you more than he loves himself. Despite this, there are many wonderful dogs sitting in shelters around South Africa. Many of these dogs are sad, confused, injured, sick, dirty, smelly and distrusting of people.

So, they go unnoticed, and spend months or years in kennels waiting for someone to see them for what they could be, and should be, rather than what they are. Some, despite their profound ability to love unconditionally, even die there.

This is why I foster shelter dogs with broken spirits who suffer in a kennel environment. My mission is to shorten their time in shelters by giving them love, care, exercise, good food and socialisation. In this way, I hope to help them become the happy, healthy dogs they were always meant to be.
