100%!!!! As vets we could not do our job without them.

For everything these gentlemen so quietly do,
Without a title or much acknowledgment.
For their patience with their patients,
For the kindness in times of fear and reservation.
For their compassion and willingness to help,
Despite their duties not always being easy.
For all those things and more, we will always consider them super heroes.

These are not recent photos but I do want to share my most recent experience with you.

This is my amazing companion Morena. 🐴 Since saying goodbye to our other horse, I have made a point of walking her most days of the week. My initial reasoning was that she was now alone and needed the company. The Universe has a way of showing you how wrong you can be. It turns out, I needed the companionship way more. 😉

A few days ago, during one of our walks, we ended up in an open field. I looked at the space, then I looked at Morena. In an instant I decided to hop onto her back and ride her. No saddle, no hard hat! Only me and her. It was glorious! The 11-year old me was having such fun! The older me was having such a blast! 💃 The delight I felt at such a simple thing. The pleasure! The feeling that I had just done something I should not have done! 😈 I came home exhilarated!

I am determined to find and create more opportunities to experience fun. Let me know (in the chat below) what is fun for you. I am sure you will inspire me to more adventure!

Yesterday I got caught up in my "to do" list. I did not take time to align myself in the morning or set an intention for my day. It was a lousy day. Filled with anger, irritation and frustration.

This morning, I took time for myself. I greeted the day and I am incredibly grateful that our days are warmer. I feel completely different - energised and excited. My "to do" list hasn't changed. It's still here!

I am committed to myself! To healing, wholeness and peace within. Change starts with me.

Wishing everyone a deLIGHTfull day!

How does your inner critic speak to you? Mine is nasty. I am understanding that I do not have to endure being spoken AT but that I can enter into a conversation with my inner critic. Try it. It may change your perspective.

Be the change. Do you think that only the great people like Mahatma Gandhi can be the change?

I think we need to adjust our perception. We are all great and we can all create change. We are the sacred dreamers, dreaming the world into being.

What do you dream of? Spend some time there. How do you feel when your dreams come true? Once you can start to feel it in your body, your body becomes your compass. When faced with a decision, can you feel it? Your dream? If you can, then do it. Our dreams of a better future, loving relationship, safe home environment are what bring about change. Change takes awareness and courage.

Take the first step into your dream. Then take another. When you look back over time you will see the change you wish to see in the world.

THE CATERPILLAR
Card from The Shaman's Dream Oracle Alberto Villoldo and Colette Baron-Reid
You are being asked to revise your dreams. The new cannot emerge from the old. The youthful and vital cannot emerge from the sickly. Do not wait for an invitation from life to practice a bit of outrageousness or permission to do the unexpected.

Only you can make your dreams come true.
Do you dare to dream?

Hi everyone. I am taking some time out in the Kruger National Park. This is the Crocodile River - flowing strongly. One of the things I love to experience is nature. It soothes my Soul and calms my stresses.

I recently did an exercise where I wrote down 100 things/people/activities that I love. Many of them involved nature. I noticed that I did not connect with nature for many years - not in any form that sustained me. That is changing, starting immediately.

What do you love? What nourishes you? Comment below.

The legend of the phoenix rising from the ashes is so apt. As we move out of grief and into a new future, we create a new version of ourselves.

The story I have told myself since childhood is that no one is to be trusted and I can do it on my own. It's taken a long time for me to admit that these are stories and not the truth. Finally, I am asking for help.

Hello Beautiful Beings.

As I have navigated the last few weeks I feel as though I have lived a thousand lifetimes. I suppose it is possible that I have. During this time I have opened myself to grief and pain. This was very difficult but I knew that I could no longer contain them inside me. The feelings were too overwhelming.

As I expressed these emotions (and at times it was very ugly) I noticed that I began to feel "okay". Okay was way better than despair. So I continued my journey of allowing.

This morning I realised that this process has a few tendrils I want to mention.
1. As I released the heartache and pain, I created a space for something else.
2. I finally chose to look at myself, deeply. No more hiding from my truth.
3. I was kind to myself.
4. By practising kindness I am moving into a degree of self-acceptance.
5. I have space for myself (love, kindness and acceptance) because I am no longer filled with grief.

In this moment I feel okay. I feel peace. I am grateful. I am excited to let the light - my light - shine through the cracks.

Everyone has a LIGHT within. Let your LIGHT shine. You are so beautiful.

Please like this post if my words resonate with you.

Sharing your story can make a difference in the life of one person. That one person will go on to influence many others. Do not underestimate the value you add to the world by speaking up. Be brave and tell your story!

Anger is a well documented stage of grief. It is important to find ways to release the anger and the feeling that life is unfair. In this video I describe what I did.

When we feel such deep despair and overwhelm it seems as though we have no control. In order to move out of overwhelm of any kind, including burnout, it is imperative that you actively engage with your own healing. You know what is best for you.

Veterinary professionals experience a great deal of stress. It's becoming increasingly important to share your stories, to eliminate any stigma associated with a "diagnosis". Let's build a community of vet professionals that care for and about each other.

07/07/2023

The first step in moving through grief is to allow the process. In our busy world, we swiftly move onto the next item that is on our "to do" list. This means that grief can become stuck in our body and later it may cause disease. In this video I chat about what I did to be able to get up in the morning. I reached a point where I realised, "I am okay."

I euthanised one of my horses last month. I have chosen to share my story about moving through grief and despair in the hope that it will assist other veterinary professionals and pet parents. Snippets of the video will be shared over the next few weeks. If you wish to watch the full story (so far) go to: https://youtu.be/WmXbqEg1cpY

Being aware of the pressures we experience is honestly empowering.

First, there is the pressure I place on myself to perform. I hold myself to an extremely high standard.

Second, there is pressure from society. In this case I am referring to the expectations placed on individuals to succeed. What is the definition of success? (a topic for another post?)

Then, there is the natural rhythm of life - the ebb and flow of existence. When life throws you lemons - what do you do with them?

Recently, I have asked my "stern inner critic" to please stop chastising me. We have now entered into negotiation and I feel more ease. I allowed myself to grieve. I took time out to be in that state. The result is that I have not met many of my commitments.

What's the point? My point is that I feel much more capable of progressing because I was kind to myself. There comes a time where each person must choose to stop the 'doing' and simply move into 'being'.

We have so much patterning to overcome. By looking at the thoughts and emotions that drive me, I have been able to make decisions that serve me. This is empowering.

If you like this, please LIKE this post or share one of your stories. The more we open up the conversation the more likely it is that our world will improve.

Happy Sunday!

07/06/2023

This week I said goodbye to one of my horses. I won't lie - it's been tough. Even in these moments of overwhelming sadness there is room for love, and there is space for learning. I have no words for the gratitude I hold for Hugh, my husband; Neil my son and his partner Michelle; my hydro team; the Masterful Connections Soul Group; and my "Lover" Susan. The support and love I have received knows no bounds. The final process was calm, peaceful and filled with love. It is one of the greatest acts of service I have ever performed. Eternal gratitude to Tokoloshe for his gift. RIP Handsome Boy.

This is a story most of us know. It feels to me as if most of the world's population is living this story. When I look at this story I do not feel empowered. I recently became aware of a situation where I was waiting for somebody to complete a task that anybody could have done. I was anybody. I was also nobody. I became so frustrated that I reacted in anger. This happens everyday in many situations. The story describes apathy and an aversion of responsibility - a very real disease in society. Since I became aware of the pattern in my life I am more proactive and engaged. I either complete the task or I approach the person responsible and start a conversation about the task. Please like this if you agree.
