This is a post regarding the severe shortage in snake antivenom.

Over the last few days we have had a couple of incidents where pets were bitten by snakes. There is NO antivenom available at this stage and not all pets are as lucky as Stubby to get a second chance.

There is a nationwide shortage in antivenom and snakes are very active at the moment.

In the Gauteng area you can find puff adder, rinkhals, snouted cobra and Mozambique spitting cobra which are of medical significance.

Once your pet has encountered a snake please do not try and catch or kill the snake. If you can safely get pictures of the snake please bring that with you when you bring your pet in. It is not worth you getting bitten along with your pet through trying to catch or the kill the snake.

When you are out for walks be aware of your surroundings and the behaviour of your pup. Keep your pup close to you to avoid any nasty surprises.
