With my boy Spud in Marina da Gama. His folks have gone away for 8 days.

Spud is now 16 and getting on in years. He only takes short walks now. His eyes have got cataracts, so he's being medicated with eyedrops daily.

I love this boy ❤️

Celebrating 3 years with my wonderful Llandudno clients. I've been here since the 21st of December 2023 and depart on the 12th of January 2024.

This time around, I looked after Toby Cat. He is such an adorable fluff ball. He loves to make "cookies" and regularly comes for cuddles. Pindi dog was not around as she went on holiday with her owners.

I feel so blessed.

How cute are these two miniature long hair Daschunds?! 🥰

A friend needed help at the last minute for this past weekend and I was more than happy to oblige, considering I had the time to do so.

Charlie is the black dog, who gets super excited when he sees the lead. He also loves to be a "hot water bottle", which suits me fine, considering our cold spells we've been having in Cape Town.

Ms Piper is just as cute and adorable, also keen to be a "hot water bottle". She also loves to go out for walks, but boy has she got a good nose for bones that are strewn on the pavements in Observatory, so naturally, I have my eyes peeled and focused so as to avoid these bones.

A hairy experience one night when a rain spider 🕸️made itself known. I felt something moving my hair and when I shook it, I got the fright of my life when it landed on the blanket on my lap 😬 I did the humane thing and set it free outside.

I got a last minute booking between my month long Llandudno sit and my upcoming 3 week sit in Marina da Gama next week. I had the weekend to myself, but decided to take it on by helping a friend out. 😊

The month I've been here, is drawing to a close with these 2 adorable fur kids.

My regular clients in Llandudno.

Toby cat is his same old usual handsome self. He's grown more attached to Pindi dog. They play so nicely together.

Pindi (Pops) dog is currently on a diet. She needs to lose 2kg. I took her to the vet the other day to have her weighed, as per the instructions from her human companions. She has lost 500gr. I'm super proud of her. 👏

I'll be coming back in December / Jan to take care of them. I'm looking forward to it. 🥰

New clients in Rondebosch.

Simba is a 7 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He has such a sweet, placid and very patient temperament. He also has me laughing with his cute ways.

Jasmine is 13 and almost blind, she's a sweet girl, but very slow. She also knows what she likes and doesn't like. She takes meds morning and evenings.

They both love their walkies time. We go for two walks, both dogs together and then Simba and I go for another, faster paced walk.

Always good to see Pindi dog and Tobie cat 🥰

Pindi loves socks, so I gave her one of my old ones to drag around. We've been going on adventures to Muizenberg beach, but also been enjoying the few sunny days at home in Llandudno.

Tobie cat has settled nicely and enjoys giving loads of love and affection.

This is only a short stint, I'm looking forward to seeing Pindi and Tobie again from mid August to mid September.

Lots a dogs feel the same way about having your "friendly dog" come up to them.

Please respect on-leash dogs and their owners.

Please respect people who ask you to call your dog away from their dog - or from them, their child, their elderly family member, or their horse.

Please learn to read the body language of dogs, and of dog-owners - and of any other users of shared recreational spaces.

Your dog may be friendly but not every dog or person wants your dog in their personal space.

Please be respectful.
Let's work together to create harmonious nature spaces.

New client in Marina da Gama.

Meet Hobbs. She has such a gentle and calm nature about her. One of the few cats, who rolls over for tummy rubs. 🥰

She is not allowed to wonder outside the confines of her home, but if she is accompanied, she's allowed out of the front gate for a little sniff around her immediate environment.

She also enjoys being brushed and wiped down with a warm damp cloth.

We will be together for about 5 weeks, whilst her folks are away for the holidays.

It's been such a pleasure looking after Toby cat 🐈in Llandudno. It's been a time to remember, Howling winds, closed beach and then the fire.

I've been here since 28th Dec, today, 17th Jan, the owners come back home with only sweet Pindi dog. Sadly, my sweet dog Oscar, whom I love and have looked after passed away whilst on holiday with his owners and Pindi. Oscar was only 5 years old, he had cancer. He will be sorely missed by me. RIP my sweet boy. 😭🌈

First time sitting in the Northern suburbs 23 to 28 Dec 2022.

7 charges, made up of 6 cats 🐈 and a dog.🐕

It was not easy to remember all their names, as some of the cats were more scarce. But, there were a few cuddle cats in the house 🥰

Bok, the pit bull was the most well behaved dog. He has such a sweet, gentle and loving nature and loves belly rubs and going to the park for walks.

The well manicured garden around the home was also tended too with watering and pool needed regular backwashing as instructed by the owners. (pity I did not get photos of the beautiful gardens (front, back and side)

Regular client in Woodstock. Today is the last of my 4 days here, delightfully filled with cat musings. 😻🥰

Sadly, my charges have dwindled... may sweetest Echo and Luna, (the cute doggos) RIP 🙏 the house is not the same without you here.

My 3 charges currently: Mimsy, Tiger and Raphael.

Each one with their own personality and funniness...

Mimsy loves cuddles, Tiger, not so much, she's getting on in years. Raphael, the sweet "terror", full of mischief he is.

Looking after all the plants, pool and appreciating the views.

Meet Spud 🥰 he was my charge for 6 weeks in Marina da Gama. (Sept to Nov 2022)

Spud is a rescue, he's about 14 years and has separation anxiety.

He's super sweet and the most gentle dog I've looked after to date. His personality took a while to come out, but when it did, what a darling of a dog.

He loves jumping into the car and going on adventures! He walks well on the lead and is most behaved when we went out to various pet friendly establishments. 💞

Sweet little Pindi is one of my Llandudno charges.

When we went for our walk, I noticed she had blood in her urine. I duly notified her owners. Off to the vet we went.

She has small bladder crystals, which have joined together to form a bigger crystal, hence the blood and more frequent loo trips. She needs a small operation to flush her bladder. Her diet is going to change now too.

Sending healing light frequency to Pindi 🙏❣️

Ever noticed those slits at the sides of a dog’s nose? Why do dogs have them?

Once again, nature proves her elegance in the design of our dogs. When we humans inhale and exhale, air comes in the same way it goes out. Any smells that come in through our mouths are forced out as we exhale.

When a dog exhales through his nose, however, the exhaled air is released through those slits and off to the side so that nice, smelly air going into the dog’s nostrils doesn’t get diluted with the outgoing air. Put another way, the slits allow the dog to avoid smelling what he just exhaled.

The slits help the dog hold scent particles in the nostrils even as exhaled air passing out the slits creates a swirling air turbulence allowing interesting odors to be inhaled directly into the centre of each nostril. Since dogs breathe faster when trying to sniff a certain smell, they widen their nostrils to pull in more air which makes it possible for a dog searching for smells to have a steady stream of air coming in for up to 40 seconds, maybe even longer.

The slits also allow dogs to wiggle each nostril independently which gives them the ability to know which nostril a smell entered. This is how a dog can pinpoint where a smell is coming from, and why a dog searching for smells on the ground will weave back and forth as he follows a trail.

We all know the superb smelling abilities of dogs, but let’s use an analogy between scent and sight to really put it into perspective: What we as humans can see at a third of a mile, our dog can see more than 3,000 miles away and still see as well.

Took him for a walk at the Noordhoek Commons, where there are streams of water. With all Goldens, he loves to dip and lay in the water. It's winter here, but it does not bother him.
