With the 2023 Show Season kicking off We understand that having a coach or having lessons on a weekly basis is not always an option for everyone. 🐴

We also understand that it’s easy to feel uncertain, as to what you really should be working on, especially on jumping days. You know conditioning is important too, but how exactly do you do that? 🧐

Whether you currently don’t have a coach or if you need exercises to use in between your lessons. We’re here to help you by providing affordable, customised exercise plans!! 😎

3. Send us as many riding videos (the good, the bad and the ugly😅)
4. Send us your arena size and available arena equipment
5. We will setup your customised exercises, that include full arena layout, distances and purpose of each exercise.

Some horses naturally have the gift of a superb shape and form over a fence from the time they jump their first little cross.. The horse we all wish we could own👀💰💰

But most start out struggling to connect the front and back of their bodys and throw all sorts of shapes, OR no shape at all, over a fence except for the one we want🙈

Teaching a horse the ideal shape and form over a fence is undoubtedly one of the most satisfying processes🏆

With consistency, patience, clear communication, the right exercises, boundaries and ofcourse a lot of positive reinforcement you can mould and improve any horses form👌

How effective is your coach? 👀

Ever felt like you're not making progress or with every forward step you take, you end up taking five steps backwards?

This can be frustrating and we’ve all been through multiple coaches, trying to find that one ‘miracle worker’ to fix all your and your horses’ problems. Well, what if it was easier than it seems to finding an effective coach.

Here’s some points to think about and observe about your coach👇

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲?
You can tell a lot about a coach based on the horses that they train.
Do the horses have weak backs, or inverted necks? Are they behind the vertical? Are they broken in the third vertebrae?
Don’t be deceived by the fancy pre-schooled horses – these are the easiest horses to fake good training on. Look at all the different styles of horses and see if they are muscled correctly. Also notice if they are making consistent progress with their horses.

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲?
𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳-𝘴𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳:
Are their horses resistant? Are they bucking or galloping off? This should not be happening nor is falling off horses regularly, ‘just okay’.
There is always a reason behind behaviour like this, whether it’s pain related or a resistance issue. Always remember that this is not okay.

𝘐𝘯-𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳:
Do they stand while being worked with? Do they respect the handler’s space? Do they pull the handler around?
The most common problems that riders experience with their horses, come from lack of respect and an absence of leadership. A good trainer’s horse will always reflect respect and obedience.
A horse that shows no respect on the ground has major gaps in its training and it will show when the horse is under-saddle.

𝟯. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺?
If a horse bucks during a training session, does your coach spend time correcting the buck, or do they spend the time fixing what caused the buck and provide you with the tools on how to fix the problem?

𝟰. 𝗧𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁, 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁?
Is your coach big on all sorts of gadgets, draw reins, strong bits, crank nosebands, and so on? Start asking yourself WHY they are having to resort to these ‘tools’. You want a coach that can get a horse to listen to whispers and not shouts. Are they constantly increasing the pressure used on the horse just to get it to behave? Always remember – the less the better!

𝟱. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲/𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗲?
A good horseman is able to keep their horse sound through correct riding and training.
It’s a major red flag if your coach’s horse or yours is frequently lame. Your coach should understand how to correctly strengthen up your horse physically and mentally, in order for it to be able to perform the activities that you demand without it being strenuous.

𝟲. 𝗗𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗼𝗻?
Correct training is too often pushed aside in the show ring.
Ask yourself, are shows about making the horse a better athlete (both mentally and physically) or is it about doing whatever it takes to bring home a placing?

𝟳. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰/𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
This will show you whether they truly understand how a horse functions and thinks.
Have they ever been able to explain why your horse did what it did or showed you how to do something in such a way that it made sense to you according to the horse’s biology or mental capacity?

𝟴. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲?
This can be a dead giveaway to the coaches who rely on fancy horses to build their reputation. Real horsemen can make even the plainest horse into something special.
Is your coach constantly wanting you to spend more on buying things that your horse ‘needs’ in order to fix an issue? Is there always an excuse to the horse’s behaviour or to why there isn’t progress in the training?

Start questioning these decisions 👌🤩
