Potty training Micro Pigs
Just something to think about regarding litter box training your pig. We never ever make it a point to compare pigs to dogs because they are two completely different animals, but this topic is going to be an exception.
When you bring a puppy home, you take the time to constantly take them outside to potty train. It’s what dogs do and what comes natural to them. You set down some newspapers or potty pads in case of any accidents, but you do not encourage your puppy to constantly use these resources because you want them to learn to eventually only go potty outside. Going potty outside is what dogs do and we expect nothing different from them.
Pigs should be treated in the same manner. It’s what comes naturally to them. Not only is it natural, but it also gives them a chance to be outdoors which is one of the most important things a pig requires most.... being outdoors. They need to root and graze, soak up that vitamin D and have the opportunity to be exactly what they are... a pig.
Litter box training is best used as a temporary situation, or if you cant be home for a long period of time and want to make it available to them to avoid any floor or carpet accidents. Pigs do not have bladder control for at least 7 months to a year, so please be patient with them and always keep that in mind. Successful training involves taking them outside just as many times as you want to take them to that potty box. If we try and reinforce what comes more natural to them, they’ll be much happier and so will you
