In all honesty, we probably wouldn't be needed at all, or very minimally, if it wasnt for orphaned and injured babies being the victim of a cat hunt expedition. These tips could really make a difference in an animal's whole life and just be a minor inconvenience(at most) to a cat

Do you have an outdoor cat? 🐱

Breeding season is beginning for many wild species including numerous rodents and birds! These animals are predated at high levels by domesticated cats each year. Cats are not native predators and therefore there is no ‘balance’ or natural order to the sheer quantity of wild animals hunted. It may really impact local populations, with many young animals being caught just as they leave the nest.

If your cat goes outdoors and is a hunter, please consider the following! 🙏🏻

• Putting a bell on your outdoor cat’s collar has been proven to reduce predation of wildlife in a study by the RSPB. Ensure this is a ‘breakaway’ collar so it comes off easily if your cat becomes stuck.

• It is thought that cats who are more mentally stimulated in the home, with lots of playtime and enrichment, may choose to hunt less! Ensure your home is set up to be as enriching as possible for your cat. I suggest following The Cat Nurse for tips!

• Keep your cat indoors during times of high wildlife activity, or if you have identified a nest nearby. I understand this can be tricky for some outdoor cats, but even keeping them indoors during small portions of the day and night time could really help!

• Avoid placing bird feeders near bushes/places with dense vegetation where your cat could hide and pounce on wildlife. Open and high areas are preferred for bird feeders with cats nearby.

NEVER punish your cat for hunting. They do not understand that it is undesirable behaviour, no matter our reaction each time. They are simply following their instincts! 🐱

I understand the above may not be possible for everyone and their individual situations. But if you can make any slight changes that can help wildlife this year, it would be appreciated by many little creatures I am very sure! ☺️🐁🐿🐇🕊🦇🐦🐣

With babies steadily coming in, we are going through supplies like it's going out of fashion! We are in desperate need of bird seed and pellets and 1ml syringes without the needle(we use these to administer meds as well as feed the tiny babies) If anyone has some spare lying around or wouldn't mind adding a couple syringes to your shopping list(they are 73cents each at dischem) we would be ever so grateful! Little Remy growing like a w**d. About a week old now. She still has some bruising to her head and body but her open wounds have started scabbing over and healing. She absolutely loves her special milkies. We are in love with this cheeky little chop

Nawty Tawty was admitted after a cat had gotten hold of him. We was treated with antibiotics and given fluids. As a result of the medication, his shell became brittle and weak but today, Nawty is full of life and super strong. How adorable is this little guy!

This past week, every night has been a callout. Lost cockatiel, conure, lovebirds and now, a squirrel! We love little Remy so much! He is being fostered for Squirrel Rescue & Rehab Western Cape. He is covered in einas but continues to be cheeky, strong and active which is amazing considering he is only a couple days old. He loves his special milkies and has received treatment for his wounds

For the past few days we have been driving around the South Peninsula, climbing trees and fences and dancing around like lunatics ,in the middle of the road, trying to convince a couple lost cockatiels to come to us😬 Please, if you spot these sh*theads, let us know! I just want them to be safe as they are not wild birds and do need access to fresh foods and drinking water. *Photo from one of the posts from the public.

If you're in the deep south, please keep your eyes open for this gorgeous little lady that flew off yesterday. Her owner is distraught and so are her friends. She flew from the Capri area and is very tame. Should you have found her, contact us and we'll put you in touch with her human. Thank you!

It has been raining Cape White-eyes. Golly gosh they seem to be finding themselves as breakfast, lunch and supper for all the kitties in the Cape. Luckily they have all found their way to us and are receiving meds and feedings when needed🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦

We are assisting a local bird rescue with feed for the birds in their care. They are in need of crushed corn, Avi plus complete pellets, Avi plus handrearing formula and budgie seed. If anyone is able to assist at all, donations can be dropped off directly with her in plumstead or with me in Fish Hoek. She also de-stresses by painting beautiful paintings on rocks and would appreciate any craft related items to continue her hobby. She does amazing work and never turns down an injured or orphaned feather baby.

Our Witogie, Beep, is growing like a w**d! He is self fed on soft foods and has learnt to fly to where he wants to be. His signature little white eye is coming in beautifully.

We'd like to say a huge "Thank you" to Martha and family for the donation of a new lawn for the animals. The goal is to make it more visitor friendly and once completed, you are welcome to visit and feed the bunnies and "Oooooh and Aaaaah" at the baby animals in our care. We are extremely grateful for the gift and cant wait to show you all!

So Bugsy owns me now. He is the boss.com. This spoilt baby is so super smart, bringing me his spoon when hungry and can differentiate between myself and other people. We love Bugsy and his beautiful personality. Can you tell where his favourite spot is? Yup! Right ontop of my head. This is how I work all day. Excuse the porridge on his mouth, he is a messy eater

We put out an appeal to a local community group for any overgrown herbs or veggies they may need to trim back. Wow! We are blown away. Our animals will be spoilt for days to come!!!! We are so thankful to be part of such an amazing community! Thank you!

Could you get a more displeased customer? Our newest resident is not chuffed with the service, in this hotel, one bit! Beep is a little Witogie and super tiny. He is just as greedy as Bugsy and has a massive appetite for his size.

On Thursday afternoon I received a call from a local vet where a baby Cape white-eye was brought in. This poor baby was left to die by the finder but because it was "taking too long to die"(I kid you not), the lady decided to drop it off for some help. Unfortunately it was much too late and baby didn't survive the night. Please, if finding an orphaned or injured baby, get help immediately. We loved having this little fighter for the evening. Rest well little guy

And the three blind mice continue to thrive. Full of sass and attitude. So proud of how far they have come. Pinkies(newborns) have an extremely low survival rate. But that wont stop us from giving our all❤🐁🐁🐁❤

These gorgeous, sticky, newborns are too precious! We are handrearing them for a local rodent rescue. They have been named Eeny, Meeny and Moe and will be released back into the wild once old enough.

These four tiny fluff balls are waiting ever so patiently for the perfect families to adopt them. They are all tame and have been around people since birth.
Dart- Previously the more timid of the siblings, she has now grown into a lovely, confident and curious little girl. Very good at jumping!
Astrid- she has the cutest little face and a proper little character. Very curious and sweet.
Cloudjumper- The most ridiculously fluffy little boy. He's not fat, he's just a superfloof!
Toothless- Sweet and super fluffy. He just LOVES a spot in the sun. Loves to cuddle up to his siblings. He was the runt of the litter but has more than caught up, especially in the fluffy department!

This beautiful girl is looking for the perfect retirement home. She has completed her rehabilitation and now needs a new place to call home. Cuddles and head rubs are her absolute favourite. As baby season peeks its head around the corner, we are getting prepared for all the tiny mouths that pass through our doors. From fostering baby bunnies, squirrels, mice and birds, we go through so much formulae and cereals. Finch has come such a long way since we got her in last year. She was found under a car in someone's yard and sustained multiple injuries including a broken wing, scabbed over nose, gash to chest, tail feathers ripped out and multiple injuries to her body. Well look at this gorgeous girl now. We love Finch and her beautiful needy personality
