World Bee Day is celebrated on the 20th of May, which is the birthdate of the 18th-century Beekeeper, Anton Jansa, who pioneered modern beekeeping techniques and was praised for his hard work.
This year SABIO in conjunction with Starke Ayres is giving away a "Bee appropriate” hamper.

Southerns Beekeeping Association members have been invited to spend the day with Thorsten Sachse on his farm between Modimolle and Vaalwater. We shall be opening hives, possibly harvesting end of season honey and prepping hives for winter. Afterwards we shall enjoy a braai and social before heading back home.

*Venue*: Thorsten’s farm (near the old Geluksfontein Goats Cheese Farm off the R33 en route to Vaalwater)
*Travel time from Sandton*: 2:30 hours

*Catering*: SBA shall provide the meat and salads for the braai. If you have special dietary requirements, please bring your own.

We are hoping to organise a bus to take SBA members through for the Field Day. This will mean a very early start (bus will depart at 05h30 from Bryanston Sports Club and return at about 18h00). Cost of bus will be R200 per person (subsidised by SBA). We will only organise the bus if we are able to get 40 people to fill the seats in the bus. Refer to the electronic booking form for details and options.

ARAS 2023 Mead Competition Results
To protect and conserve , it is essential that we work to address these challenges and to support their habitats and populations.

WCBA members won a slew of top awards at the Apimondia Africa event in Durban. Clayton Sanders-Perrin won in three separate categories for his citrus honey, including 'Best Bottle of Honey'. Other category winners from the WCBA were Francois Schippers, Eddy Rube , Achmat Kazie and Danie Vorster.
