Procedure training therapy 🐴

⭐️The first step is an initial osteopathic treatment of the horse.
⭐️A detailed analysis (including looking at your horse in movement), diagnostic and therapy is performed.
⭐️Subsequently, the further procedure is discussed and a training plan is developed.
⭐️Depending on the situation and the wishes of the owner, a certain number of training sessions are arranged.
⭐️After the training sessions, there is a follow-up treatment with a detailed final examination and adjustment of the training plan. 🐎

Ablauf Trainingstherapie 🐴

Interdisciplinary cooperation on the horse 🐴❤️

One alone on the horse is powerless!
In order to keep your horse healthy and willing to perform, the cooperation of professionals is indispensable ❗
Horse owner / rider / trainer / vet / farrier / dental practitioner / saddler / and physio- osteopath should always communicate and work together.
This is the only way to ensure a good and promising cooperation and a happy horse-rider-partnership. 😍🐎

When does my horse need a physio- or osteopathic treatment❓🐎
Physiotherapy can be appropriate not only for injuries and diseases, but is also very helpful preventively❗🐴❤️
Through the physio and osteopathic - treatment, the well-being and performance of your horse will be increased and thus also prevent injuries.
A regular check is therefore very useful! 🐎
If your horse showed changes in the musculoskeletal system or behavioral changes, prompt treatment is necessary. 🙌
It is best to do the treatment in a place where the horse feels comfortable and at a time when there is not a lot of commotion, such as feeding time. 🐴

Triggertherapy 🐴☺️🙌
Stress point - Massage

Many horses experience that their muscles are tense and overworked.

What is a stress point ❓
A group of muscle fibers remains in a rigid spasmodic state.
Surrounding muscles have an extra load and can also become tense.

How can my horse get a stress point ❓
They are the result of biomechanical overexertion.
For example due to a trauma (kick, fall) or incorrect, excessive training.
When a horse has a wound on the knee, it can develop stress-points on the shoulder muscles as a compensatory measure - cause all the muscles on the body are connected ❗

Where on the body can my horse get these stress-points ❓
They can be found anywhere on the horse's body, but there are a certain key areas on the skeleton and associated musculature that are often subjected to high mechanical stresses.

The treatment of the stress-points ❗
After a detailed palpatory examination of the horse, the corresponding painful region are treated with a stress-point-massage.
Starting with light pressure, this is slowly increased and finished with friction across the muscle fiber to loosen adhesions of the muscle fibers.
This is followed by passive stretching of the limbs to help release muscle spasms and increase flexibility.
Finally i always discuss a detailed recommendation for further training - this is the only way to ensure complete and long-lasting therapeutic success ❗🐎❤️

Please feel free to contact me, if you have any questions or if you would like a treatment of your horse ☺️🐴❤️

Diagnosis: Tendon damage ⚡
The flexor tendon of the horse

Injury to the tendon not only means a long recovery time, but is also associated with pain and muscle - atrophy. 😔
Tendons transmit the movement of the muscles to the bones 🦴
They consist of tight connective tissue fibres running mainly lengthwise an parallel.
There are only a few blood vessels in them, which is why tendons regenerate and heal only slowly and often with scarring.

This makes it all the more important to directly detect any swelling or warming on the leg❗
It only takes a minute to palpate your horse's tendons every day.
It is important to do this on the lifted leg.
To do this, lift the leg, as you would when cleaning hooves, and carefully feel the area from the carpal joint to the fetlock (front leg) behind the metacarpal bone (hock joint to fetlock - hind leg).
I would be happy to show you personally if needed ☺️

Of course it is also VERY IMPORTANT to warm up your horse at least for 15-20minutes at a walk before training and to cool down sufficient!

Why you should "rub down" the saddle area after riding your horse ❗🐴❤

While riding, compression of the fascia tissue occurs in the saddle position.
That means Proteoglycans are destroyed, they function like a sponge and buffer the tissue against pressure. But the good thing is after a certain time they can regenerate again. 🤩
Daily stress from the rider's weight causes adhesions in the thoracolumbar fascia!
Adhesions in the fascia tissue always mean pain and disturbances in movement.
All fascia are interconnected, that means it has far-reaching consequences for the entire organism! 🐎
After riding, it is advisable to "rub" the saddle area, thus restoring the mobility of the compressed tissue and relieving compression pain, which promotes recovery
❤🐴❤

HAPPY HORSES in Namibia 🐴🇳🇦

Did you know that a horse kept in a stable for 23 hours takes only 570 steps a day!
Horses going out in a paddock during the day cover 3.5km.
And horses which are outside 24hours cover even 8.5km ❗🐎

I believe actually that horses that live on a farm in the fields here in Namibia walk even more kilometres in 24hours...
I find it very interesting and i think, it shows us how important it is for our horses and that keeping them only in stables is NOT appropriate for this species!!!

⁉️ Question time! ⁉️

When was the last time you groomed your horse? 🤔

We all suffer from it….lack of time, lack of energy, only brushing the muddy bits (if at all!), prioritising riding, easier to bath…….you name it, I’ve heard it and said it myself!

Grooming is by far the undersung hero of our equine care practices! It is absolutely fantastic for so many reasons, physical and emotional:

🤕 Showing subtle and sometimes major signs of pain in the body where your horse might flinch away, or show behavioural signs
☠️ Highlighting areas your horse is less happy to have touched
🤲🏻 Feeling areas that are harder or softer than they should be
💪🏻 Allowing you to notice larger or smaller areas of their musculature which could be suggesting something isn’t functioning the way it should
💆🏼‍♀️ Massage and stimulation of the muscles to boost blood supply and reduce pain levels
🤲🏻 Assessing for any lumps, bumps and cuts
❤️ Building a better connection and bond
🦄 Boosting your horses well-being as mostly they love to be groomed! And if they don’t, then it may be time to take a look at that
🧹 Truly cleaning their coat and lifting dust

It’s an art that seems to be lost these days in our busy modern lives, and one of my favourite homework exercises! You can take this further by adding in a more fascia based groom using different brushes.

Whatever your reason, please please do your four legged besties a big favour and start giving them a regular deep groom 🙌🏻💕

Fascia
Fascia is a connective tissue that is found almost everywhere in the body.
In the skin, cartilage, bones, joints, tendons, muscles and organs.
All fascia are interconnected.
Fascia has movement sensors and pain receptors.
They respond to stimuli, such as stress and send signals to the muscles, that release inflammatory substances.
With fascia therapy, tensions can be released and pain can be alleviated.
Through the right pressure and stretching, adhesions and tensions can be released.

Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
I am very happy to help your horse with a fascia therapy! 🐴❤

How you can effectively train your horse after the corona virus pandemic

SUPPLENESS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT !
Without observing the classic principles the harmony between rider and horse are not possible - these were one of the most important quotes from Kurd Albrecht von Ziegner, who developed the effective hang-gym-training.
This takes place on a safe open terrain with a gradient of 10%-15%.
The rider will ride with his horse in an oval track. So that the horse can learn how to walk up-hill (upwards) in a forwards-downwards-position, and down-hill (downwards) with the upward-position. The horse uses it's hindquarters and in doing this it developes thrust.
The horse learns to walk in collection which developes the carrying - capacity.
Riding on a oval track on a gradient slope will create constant change, therefore the horse will learn easierer and the muscles will develop and conditioning is promoted.
The decisive factor will be the common balance between rider and horse.

Stay health and safe !
..and start thinking about where you can do the hang-gym-training with your horse...for questions contact me.

Osteopathy
LIFE IS MOVEMENT

Any structure (bones, joints, muscles, tendons, organs) have a movement of their own.
Is there a dysfunction of a single part of this system, it influences the hole body.
All structures of the body are connected to each other via connective tissue (Fascia).
As a result of this, symptoms can occur in distant parts of the body.
This can lead to structural changes and diseases.
In horses osteopathy has a good chance of completely restoring mobility.

A good Equine Therapist...
..has qualifications and skills
(one or two weekend courses are not enough)
..Questions and observation
a good Equine Therapist should be able to communicate the reasoning of treatment to the horse owner.
..Recognise good work
a thorough examination takes 60-90 minutes.
Many horses works together with the therapist, enjoys the treatment and relaxes.

The horse's natural crookedness

Why is often the right hind leg the weak leg?
On the right side of the horse - in the flank area - lies the appendix, which has a volume of 30-70 litres.
That creates a abdominal pendulum in the walk towards the right.
That means that the right rear leg is in a outward rotation, so it creates the horse to deviate from a straight line.
It is therefore more difficult to develop forward thrust-movement with the right hind leg.
That means for us riders that the right hind leg is the"weaker"leg.
This diagonal thrust causes more pressure on the left front leg. The pectoral muscles tense up and become stronger in the front left side.
This creates a muscular imbalance.

With appropriate exercises under the saddle and physiotherapy this can be counteracted.

Trigger Point Massage Therapy

Many horses experience tense muscles after being over-worked.
This leads to muscle-tension and stiffness.
Every muscle that is over-worked or over-stretched or any self inflicted injury reacts with a contraction.
A Trigger Point is a kind of spasm which develops in this region.
This means that a group of muscle fibers remains in a tetanus-like-state.
It is generally a small spot of the affected muscle tissue which often goes unnoticed.
Due to the Trigger Point muscle-strain the surrounding muscles take over the work load. Which could result in serious muscle tension and strain.
So it could turn into your horse experiencing pain and affect the performance.
With the Trigger Point Massage Therapy these tensions are specifically released and the horseś performance is significantly improved.
