We were hoping to have the best news to share with you today but unfortunately it was not meant to be.

Astrids post probably got the most shares to date, reaching thousands and thousands of people. Of all these thousands… one application only 😢

Astrid had a meet and greet today. An absolutely wonderful home 🏡
They already have 2 pitbulls and their male is also a burned victim.
Astrid has been tested with different dogs all week long and she was friendly and excited to be out and play with everyone.

From my understanding the girl didn’t like Astrid coming to close to her and her male companion… in this case, 2 is company and 3 is a crowd 😖

We will not give up on Astrid and we hope she will one day have a loving home

To the amazing couple that brought their 2 doggies all the way today for a meet and greet, thank you 🙏
We wish the result was different but thank you for trying ❤️

Please don’t forget about Astrid, continue to spread the word 🐕

R**E CASE UPDATE 23 FEB 2024: The case started in regional court in Stilfontein, case has been remanded to 8 March, suspect stays in jail, to those that did not follow the case, we received videos of a man filming himself while ra**ng his dogs, one dog died from internal injuries, 2 were adopted and one still at the shelter, please find it in your heart to donate towards this case instead of commenting,

If licenses were to return it would need to be in ALL income areas and not only in affluent or middle class areas. Anyone with pets should be viewed with equal responsibility for the sake of those fur kids.
Sadly, I think this is possibly another money making scheme to fill greedy pockets and has nothing to do with the concern for animals.
How on earth are they going to police this?
If indeed it is for the welfare of animals then start with policing breeders and enforce sterilization with them and high fines if they don't comply.

The draft by-law for dog ownership is now open for public comment.

Hello, my name is Rufus

You might recognise me… I use to live here at Vaalpets, but was adopted a few months back and thought I found my forever family

Unfortunately I am finding myself homeless again 😢

I was first rescued by Danielle with 3 of my other doggy friends. We were living outside, hardly ever got food and was tied to a pole
When I first came to VAALPETS I was very nervous of people, one of the volunteers won me over and I got so excited whenever she came to visit… when a family said they were looking for a small doggy… I got my chance

I was adopted with another doggy and me and Sofia became best friends. Sofia died at the end of last year and I was really sad, I stopped playing and I would sit at her grave all the time

My family decided to adopt a new friend. Spotty came home and oh we had a ball playing… Spotty is a bigger dog and he managed to open the gate… that is when we decided we are going to go chase the chickens 🐔 🙈
I was busy gearing up, focused on the 🐓, not caring about anything or anyone else… suddenly something grabbed me from behind… I got a fright and I bit my best friend on the hand… the little boy I have been sharing a bed with every night since I found a home 😖

I would never hurt anyone intentionally and the lady at Vaalpets says it was a normal reaction, I have never been aggressive to anyone before… well do I need to say more… myself and Spotty are homeless for doing what dogs do

If you can be my forever family, please will you come and get me
My friend Spotty is also looking for a forever home

This little dog was taken to Arrow Manufacturers in Alrode this morning. He was picked up near Evans Str. The owner of Arrow is looking after him for now. He is not microchipped. If he belongs to you, please phone 063 631 8505.

This is not a kennel, it is an oven.

During summer the temperature inside a tin kennel is the same as sitting in an oven.

When the storm clouds of Gauteng open up, the noise from the rain and hail inside the tin kennel is deafening and scares the living day lights out of any dog.

DON'T buy these kennels. You are wasting your money and risking your dogs life.
