Imagine being dumped on the side of the road like rubbish. For 3 days everyone just walks past you, doing nothing to try and help you.
Thank you to the person who phoned us to collect you. When our Inspectors got to you, you were to weak to even try and stand up. You simply collapsed in the vehicle after we picked you up. Life has not treated you fair, humans have failed you horribly. You were used as the scars on your tired body showed, for all sorts of horrible things. Your wounds were left untreated, and ruddled with flies. The rotten smell that came from your body, a sad indication of the horrible infection that riddled your body.
You were left on the side of the road to die - by a horrible person. Who this person is, we don't know. Funny how no one ever sees anyone dumping an animal, or how people choose not to see an animal being dumped.
We ended your suffering, as it was the kindest thing we could do for you. You are now in doggy heaven free of injury, pain and neglect.
To the horrible human who did this, we simply have no words that will be allowed on social media.

Christmas lunch will be fed on the 24th of December - if you want to pop through and help with the feeding and spend some time walking the animals or playing with them, pop in between 9 - 12.
Donations can be dropped off at our main reception.
Yes, it has been a loooong year. Most of us are looking forward to being on leave, going on holiday, cooking food we only eat once a year. And spending time with our families.
We ask you to "PAWS" a thought for all the animals sitting in our kennels. All the animals who will still be coming through our gates during the holiday. By donating just R100 you can help put a smile on a homeless animal's face.
You can help keep our Inspectors on the road as your R100 can help put fuel in their vehicles. Your R100 can help us vaccinate and deworm animals to try and keep them healthy. Your R100 can help us look after them - when no one else wanted them.
PAWS and donate towards our 4-legged friends this Christmas.

To say we are feeling blessed this afternoon - would be a complete under statement!
When 2 large truks stopped with a donation of much needed dog and cat food- it truelly felt like Christmas came early. A huge thank you goes to Martin And Martin who donated food towards the JSPCA today. Thank you to everyone who made this donation possible.
Our staff was so happy they even had fun off loading all the food which just fit into our store room! We cant express or put into words how thankful we are. Knowing we now have enough food to feed all our pets for a while is such a relieve!
Thank you! Thank you!

We wonder how many birds fell out of their nests last night and died after all this "fun"
Last night our guys were patrolling different areas to assist any animals in need. Some of the community members were very happy to see our guys and a few even stopped for a quick chat.
Sadly some community members were not happy at all to see our guys in various areas and decided to throw fireworks at our team. A few times our Inspectors had to duck as the fireworks landed either right in front of them or missed their heads by inches.
We were even told this only happens once a year, so deal with it. We are trying to deal with it - we are trying to ensure the animals are ok and taken care of while these bombs are being set off around them. We are trying to ensure no animal gets hurt by having fireworks thrown at them - like they were so carelessly thrown at us.
But dont worry - we will be out tonight again.
Fireworks terrify ALL animals😡😡😡
Huge thank you to #thebroaderhinducommunity and #preyalinpillay for donating warm scarfes to help keep our staff warm.
It is much appreciated!
Thank you for being pawsome!
Huge thank you to #TheBroaderHinduCommunity and Preyalan Pillay for donating warm, comfy blankets towards our animals this winter. Much appreciated!!

Huge thank you to Bradley and Nicole Naicker who won a trolly dash - and filled their trolly with R2000 worth of food and treats for our animals. We are truelly grateful as this is going to help keep all the tummies nice and full and spoilt with yummy treats.
You guys are pawsome!!
Thank you to a special little boy who donated much needed blankets and food towards our animals this weekend!
You are pawsome!!

Our Story
Our History
The Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) was established in 1902 and is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in the country. Our goal is to make sure that all of the animals in our area are safe, healthy and happy.
Our dedicated team works hard to protect animals, to improve animal welfare standards, to educate local communities about animal care, and to re-home stray and abandoned dogs and cats. We also monitor the treatment and well-being of working animals, farm animals and wild animals.
Our Facilities
The JSPCA is based in the suburb of Booysens, where our offices are situated, and where we have a fully equipped Veterinary Hospital. We also have a Mobile Clinic that provides basic veterinary care to underprivileged communities in our service area.
Funding
The JSPCA is a non-profit organisation (NPO) and we receive no government or Lotto funding. We depend on corporate sponsorships, donations and bequests to fund our work. So we welcome all contributions to our work of running and improving the JSPCA, and you can find out more about how to make a donation or a bequest on the Donations page.
Did you know?
The JSPCA is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in South Africa.
We operate as the official City Pound, and accept all stray, abandoned, abused and confiscated animals.
Members of our staff are on standby 24 hours a day to accept strays.
We offer subsidised services for those who can’t afford a private vet.
Our inspectors monitor and promote the welfare of animals in our area.
We have a very active education and outreach programme.
We assist people who would like to adopt a new pet from the JSPCA and have a special meet-and-greet area for this purpose.
We do pre-adoption home checks to make sure that all adopted animals are going to safe and loving homes
