We need your help.

People are always looking for advertising space for their businesses.

The JSPCA boundary wall is perfect for advertising. We are looking for someone to help us with making the billboards. Our aim is to rent out advertising space to various businesses thus helping us with fundraising for our animals.

If you know of someone that can assist, please send an email to [email protected]

Good dental care for pets is critical to their overall health because it can help to:

Prevent tooth loss by preventing damage or infection to the structures supporting the pet's teeth.

Prevent bad breath (halitosis) by maintaining good dental hygiene.

Prevent oral pain by preventing dental disease.

Prevent organ damage by preventing the spread of bacteria from the mouth to other parts of the body.

Prevent worsening dental disease by maintaining good dental hygiene.

Big thank you to Luke from the African Snakebite Institute who trained our brave team on first aid for snakebites, Venomous Snake handling and basic snake awareness yesterday.

Our team was shown how to approach, capture and safely remove snakes without causing any harm to the snake. Luke brought some friends along, including a Puff Adder, Rinkhals, Spitting cobra and a Snouted Cobra.

Snakes are becoming more and more common in suburbs and our guys are regularly called out to remove snakes from homes. And we are not talking about your normal Brown house snake. The snakes are brought in from all over country and some manage to escape and end up in situations where people and animals are put in harm's way.

Each snake capture is unique as the situation is always different. Snakes are more scared of us than we are of them. Please do not try and be brave when you come across a snake in your garden or home. Safely remove all pets and children away from the area the snake was spotted and call our Duty Inspector on 083 604 1172.

Please do not shoot them or chop them up with a spade. Our team was called out in the week where a brown house snake was chopped into pieces with a garden spade. We do understand that people are petrified of snakes, thats why move away from them and call our Duty Inspector to come assist. We have all the correct tools to safely remove the snake

Winter is around the corner! We are running very low on blankets for our dogs. Please donate any clean, usable secondhand blankets - or new ones towards our Kennel animals to help keep them warm this winter.

Pep sells the perfect blankets - the one with the white stripe seems to be the most durable. Unfortunately, the dogs love chewing and shredding the grey underfelt blankets and they end up lasting only a day.

Nothing too expensive or fancy - just something cozy and warm will do😇

Any drop offs can be made at 5 Benray Rd Reuven.

On Friday afternoon we had a wonderful donation from the SPAR group.

SPAR donated just over 7500 packets of SPAR Pro-Balance dog biscuits towards the dogs in our care. Now that is one HUGE donation!! And offloading 26 pallets was no easy job, but our team of guys all jumped into action and quickly loaded our storerooms.

This huge donation will not only benefit the Johannesburg SPCA animals, but will also be handed out to some of our Sister Societies - so we can ensure we treat as many animals as possible from this donation all thanks to the wonderful group of people at SPAR!!

Our Story

Our History

The Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) was established in 1902 and is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in the country. Our goal is to make sure that all of the animals in our area are safe, healthy and happy.

Our dedicated team works hard to protect animals, to improve animal welfare standards, to educate local communities about animal care, and to re-home stray and abandoned dogs and cats. We also monitor the treatment and well-being of working animals, farm animals and wild animals.
